Peter is helping our friends build a house on an island in Lake Mälaren, which is why we are currently on beautiful Ringsö. Here we have been able to enjoy the wonderful summer weather, and there has even been swimming. But the focus is really on building a house! The summer house on Ringsö lacks a kitchen, running water and a real floor ...

Summer house on an island in Lake Mälaren
Ringsö is located in the middle of Lake Mälaren, near Selaön. Our friends Lennart and Beata started their slightly crazy (but impressive!) project of building a log house from scratch here many years ago.
After a few years (much needed!) break, construction resumed last year. Peter and his brother were here to help build the roof and the terrace, among other things. Perhaps you remember that we wrote reports both about Ringsö and about the construction of the log house then?
Building a house on an island
Yesterday we went out with Lennart and Beata to continue the work. Building a house on an island in Lake Mälaren is not easy. You have to plan carefully so that you have all the materials you need. It's not much fun to stand on an island, with a long way to the nearest DIY store, and missing ... a screw.
To get to Ringsö you drive via Södertälje and on to Stallarholmen and Selaön. Then you need your own small boat, and once you're on the island, it's good to have access to a quad bike!
New construction projects
The exterior of the house is more or less finished and there is now a roof, insulation and a large terrace. However, there is no kitchen, no running water and no real floor. So those are the things that are on the agenda! Do you want to see what the kitchen will look like when it's finished? Keep following the blog, and we promise to come back with the results!
A lovely day in the sun
Peter and Lennart started planning for tiling in the kitchen and I had a nasty afternoon bout of migraine, but apart from that we also had a really lovely day in the sun. I even went down to the beach for a swim (perfect way to cool off!) and it was really nice. Not nearly as cold as I thought it would be, and also fantastically beautiful!
I felt better in the evening and we could enjoy a nice evening on the terrace. Peter will stay all week to build and I (Helena) will go home to the houseboat today.

What an exciting project, but a lot of work I understand.
Let's hope the sun and warmth continue.

That's how a real log house should be built, real logs and no lumber.

This is about as far from softwood as you can get, I think 😉.

Such a beautiful view from the house, which is really cool on the outside. But what a construction project! Oh that without water. It will be exciting to follow the construction, and I really hope that Beata and the guys have not forgotten something "vital". Speaking of which - I did not see a plate with beer;-)
