10 favourite places for a summer in Stockholm

We list ten favourite places to hang out during a summer in Stockholm, in no particular order. Of course, there are also many other favourite spots in our great capital city. Feel free to share your best tips in the comments section!

1. Djurgården

Djurgården offers both beautiful natural areas and charming old houses in Djurgårdsstaden. Of course, Djurgården also has famous museums and nice restaurants. If you want a peaceful oasis, you can walk on to Beckholmen - a small island with small red cottages in the centre of town.

2. the big shadow

Stora Skuggan is a historic area in the National City Park on Norra Djurgården in Stockholm. There are large green areas, several cultural-historical houses, a 4H farm with farm animals, and a few restaurants nestled in the greenery. It's hard to believe you're in the big city!

3. Skeppsholmen

It's great to walk around Skeppsholmen during the summer in Stockholm and look at all the ships that are moored here. Each boat has its own personality! There are also several museums here, such as the Moderna Museum and the East Asian Museum.

4. old town

It's hard not to like the Old Town, with its old squares and historic neighbourhoods. You can definitely come here to hang out in cafés and restaurants. Or why not take a city walk? We went on a walking tour once where we learnt all about brothel mothers and executioners.

5. Östermalm

Walking along Strandvägen is just as nice every summer in Stockholm, with the grand houses on one side and all the little ferries on the other. From here you can take boat trips out to the archipelago, or perhaps the tram out to Djurgården. If you like history, a walking tour of the city can also be interesting.

6. Medborgarplatsen

Medborgarplatsen, or Medis as it's known, really comes alive in the summer with all the outdoor seating that opens up over much of the square. A beer in the sun here is not a bad idea, while enjoying the relaxed atmosphere that characterises the whole of Söder. (You'll have to close your eyes to the grey autumn picture and imagine summer!)

7. Hornsberg beach

Hornsberg beach is located on Kungsholmen, opposite the marina where we live. There is a nice promenade lined with outdoor gyms, barbecue areas and bathing jetties. On warm days, it quickly becomes crowded with sunbathers on the grass, along the jetties and in the restaurants.

8. Lake Karlberg

Another area close to us is the area around the Karlberg Canal and Lake Karlberg. Here you can walk along the water and the boats, the allotment gardens and of course, Karlberg Castle. Many people also sunbathe on the grass, buy ice cream at the popular Fryst or rent stand-up paddle boards.

9. pampas marina

Of course, we mustn't forget to mention our own favourite hangout in this city, the marina where we enjoy the summer weather in our houseboat! On hot summer days, the boats go in and out of the marina and the restaurant K4's outdoor seating area quickly becomes full.

10. Vaxholm

If you want to make a small excursion from the most central parts of Stockholm, it is not wrong to take a trip to Vaxholm! This is a real summer idyll with charming houses, nice outdoor cafés and opportunities for sunbathing and swimming. Summer in Stockholm at its best!
