As we told you before, we are going on an exciting trip in midsummer. Someone asked if we plan to use our new hiking trousers, and yes we do! So where is the trip going? We will tell you today!
We are going to Northern Norway!
Our trip this Midsummer is to Northern Norway! The trip is organised in collaboration with Visit Norway, and we will fly to Bodö, which is located just south of Lofoten in northern Norway. This trip will really be soooo exciting!
Bodö and Lofoten
We will fly to the town of Bodö (or Bodø), located on the coast in the northern part of Norway. You can read that Bodö is about nine miles north of the Arctic Circle, and has the midnight sun from 4 June to 8 July each year. Not far from here is the Salt Stream, which is the world's most powerful tidal current, and is also home to the world's largest population of sea eagles.
Just north of Bodö, the Lofoten archipelago is a popular tourist destination, with its beautiful scenery and charming little fishing villages. In the summer, many cruise ships also come here.
What should we do in Northern Norway?
So, what are our plans for Northern Norway? Well, we don't really know yet, but we are leaning towards nature experiences, boat trips and maybe even some fishing. We have never been to Norway together and it is more than 20 years since I (Helena) was last in Northern Norway. We are really looking forward to this trip! Hope you want to follow the trip on the blog! Have you perhaps been to these areas yourself? Feel free to tell us!

What fun!
Exactly what I will do, but with the motorhome.
I'm also leaving now for midsummer and driving north directly to Lofoten. On the journey home at the end of July, I take the road via Bodö.
13 June 2018 - 6:19
Helena says:
But what fun!!! And what a coincidence that we are going there almost at the same time! You can post reports on FB or as comments here so we can hear about the trip and where you are staying! 🙂

Kenneth Risberg says:
Absolutely?

Ruth in Virginia says:
What an incredibly beautiful photo, the first one!
So are the others. Bergen is the furthest north I've been in Norway.
You hear about Lofoten from time to time. I've always wondered,
where the name comes from; you'll have to google it. 🙂
Hope you have good weather, because I want to see a lot of nice
photos from your midsummer excursion.
13 June 2018 - 7:08
Helena says:
I actually read about the name on Wikipedia yesterday, and it said that it comes from the Swedish "lo" and the Old Norse "fotr", meaning foot. I still don't quite understand why. Does it look like a foot ...?

åsa in åsele says:
So funny 🙂 I have been to Bodö as well as other parts of Northern Norway 🙂 .
Have not been further south in Norway than Røros.
It will be interesting to follow you.
13 June 2018 - 7:21
Helena says:
How nice that you have been here Åsa! Northern Norway is perhaps a little closer if you live in the northern parts of Sweden. I have only travelled north a few times, so this will be exciting!
13 June 2018 - 7:40
Eva - People in the Street says:
Of course I follow your journey here on the blog. Lofoten is a favourite!
13 June 2018 - 7:37
Helena says:
What fun! We have heard many positive things about Lofoten, so this will be interesting!
13 June 2018 - 7:40
Henny says:
This is almost home territory for a person from Norrbotten. I have of course been to Lofoten, at Saltströmmen, in Tromsö and others.
But never to the North Cape, a destination for so many tourists. Especially people from other countries. I will keep my fingers crossed for good weather so you can see the beautiful nature and have great experiences.
13 June 2018 - 8:09
Helena says:
How nice that this is home for you Henny! 🙂 I have actually been to the North Cape, a long time ago.

Evy Knoph says:
Yes..have a wonderful trip in my country of birth! Bodö has been flown to early 90's when we built a factory in Glomfjord, about 12 miles south of B. Remember project meetings before..about how our rental cars would be equipped..wondered if it was a.polar expedition we were going on :-). Nice up there..could sit out in the evenings and suddenly realise..oh now.it's 1 o'clock..even though it was light....
13 June 2018 - 8:12
Helena says:
Oh, so you're from Norway!? The light thing is fascinating! But I'll have to pack a sleeping mask 😉.
13 June 2018 - 16:20
Marianne - Glimpses of the world says:
It's going to be a great trip! ? I have been to Bodø and the areas further south, but never Lofoten or further north. That's too bad!
13 June 2018 - 8:24
Helena says:
It's easy to miss places in your own country... There are some great places in Sweden that we haven't had time to see yet 😉.
13 June 2018 - 16:21

It will probably be a wonderful trip for you, I have been to Mo i Rana before!
But when we have finished working, we will probably take the motorhome north there 🙂
Have fun and we are travelling with the Blog.....
13 June 2018 - 8:30
Helena says:
Now I had to google Mo Rana 🙂 .
13 June 2018 - 16:23

Britt-Marie Lundgren says:
Oh, how lovely. Our first summer as motorhome owners, in 2012, we travelled to Lofote and Vestetålen, via Kiruna and Abisko. It's probably one of the most beautiful trips we've made.
We went whale watching at Andenes, travelled by boat and saw sea eagles in Trollfjorden. I'm sure you'll have a magical trip!
We still have Saltströmmen and Nordkap so it will probably be a new trip far, far north!
13 June 2018 - 9:06
Helena says:
How nice to hear that you have been here Britt-Marie, and that you found it so beautiful! Now I look even more forward to this trip! 🙂

Exciting to travel to Northern Norway!
The first (and only) time we were in Northern Norway was last summer when our cruise boat made stops in Lofoten, Tromsø and North Cape. Fantastic views and beautiful landscapes and places.
If I had had more time in those parts, I would definitely have gone on a trip to look for killer whales. I thought I saw some from the boat, but Anders said they were just waves following the ship. Haha! Sometimes I get over-inspired 😀.
13 June 2018 - 9:24
Helena says:
But of course you saw killer whales...! 😉 Must be wonderful to travel in these areas with cruise ships too! 🙂
13 June 2018 - 19:49
Renate's travels says:
Haha, so funny - Bodø is my hometown! It is fantastic up here when the weather is good, so I bet you are lucky. 🙂 Ironically, I am going to Sweden with Visit Sweden over midsummer, otherwise it would have been fun to greet you! 😀 Hope you have a fantastic trip (And feel free to ask for a taste of møsbrømlefse!).
13 June 2018 - 9:36
Helena says:
But oh, is it true!? Do you live in Bodö??? But how ironic that you are going to Sweden with Visit Sweden right then!!!! Funny of course that you are going to Sweden, but otherwise it would have been very fun to meet! Our trip goes between 20 and 25 June.
13 June 2018 - 19:52
Mr Steve says:

One day we will probably go there too. But in that case we want to be in the summer and then we work. Feels crazy to go that way in October when we weigh "anchor". Will be nice to follow you on the journey.

Travel Linda says:
Northern Norway is so beautiful. The daytime feeling is like that with the midnight sun, but who needs sleep when there are so many beautiful things to see? You can sit and look at the Saltstraumen for quite a while, and I can't get enough of the sea and mountains.
Next year the plan is to go north with the motorhome, but we don't know where and for how long.
Pleasant journey
13 June 2018 - 17:42
Helena says:
Sounds great!!! 🙂 How nice it sounds to plan to go north, but not to have nailed or exact plans! 🙂
13 June 2018 - 19:59

Lofoten was fantastic experience can go there again
13 June 2018 - 20:27
BP says:
I have not been to Lofoten, but a blogger I followed a few years ago lived in Bodö. She posted lots of nice pictures from there. One of my former bosses went to Lofoten every year with a group of fishermen. They came home with lots of salmon. Yep, they drove a car with a cooler.
Now you'll be able to use your "work gear". And don't forget to bring winter clothes. You'll need it as there doesn't seem to be a heat wave like here.
13 June 2018 - 20:48
Ninny says:
Oh, it will be exciting to follow your journey there! Have had thoughts of taking us there sometime... I have never been so far north in Norway before, but my husband has been quite far up (on a work trip) and told me how beautiful it is.
14 June 2018 - 7:08
JoY says:
Then you really have something nice to look forward to. We were there in Midsummer 2015, but did not have time to go over to Lofoten. The trip is on our blog
