Our last adventure during the Norway trip was a reef safari in the Salt Stream. Join us on a rib boat tour in Northern Norway, among high waves, strong currents and sea eagles. Wet, fast-paced and lots of fun!

Explore Salten in Bodö
The company Explore Salten is located in the harbour in the centre of Bodö, right next to the big hotels. If you want to find them, just look for the white floating office that says 'Explore Salten'. The company organises reef safaris, but also fishing trips and midnight sun tours, among other things.
We arrived in good time for our tour and got all dressed up while waiting for our fellow travellers, a large group from a Norwegian company. Together we filled two rib boats.
Full speed in high waves
Then it was time to leave! The wind was 9-10 metres per second (on the Atlantic coast) and the waves were high. What was this really going to be like? We pulled our hats over our ears and put on our sunglasses/ski goggles and got ready ...
Then we came out among the high waves! The rib boats were really flying over the sea and when we looked at the other boat we saw how it was sticking up high in the air, sometimes almost losing contact with the water surface. Probably our own boat went the same way, but it was hard to believe considering how soft it actually felt. These boats are really good in high waves!
Ribsafari in Saltströmmen
After travelling at full speed through the waves, we slowed down when we arrived at the beach. Salt currentswhich is the strongest tidal current in the world. We have checked out the current from land before, but now we could see the strong eddies in the water! The guide told us that several large ships have gone under in the currents here, but that rib boats can handle the currents well.
Guided tour among eagles and rocks
We not only travelled fast, but also stopped several times and were guided from everything about currents to eagles and rock formations. I do not know how many sea eagles we saw during our trip around Bodö, but there were many! A few days earlier, they had even seen pilot whales on one of the tours, but we were not so lucky ...
When it was time to turn back, the guide warned that I had to pack my camera. very carefully, and it was lucky! The water was flowing towards us as we drove at high speed back to the centre of Bodö. A very, very fun trip!

Wow, what an experience! It must have gone fast there. Can it be worse than the rafting I was almost involuntarily involved in, haha?
Summer hugs, soon to come, me too. Or on the rails.

Cool adventures you are on, but you are quite adventurous so I am not surprised. Today I had to google again, this time on ribbed boat so now I know what it is. Blogging is a constant source of expanded knowledge.

Have travelled on a rib boat once from Nybroviken to Vaxholm. I can say that it was the most boring boat trip I ever made. But with you, things happened. What an adventure! Because it is in such conditions where rib boats come into their own and can "rush" forward. WOW!

Helena says:
Aha, ok! Yes, then it happened more here! We did not have time to think that it became boring if you say so 😉

I have also been on a rib boat once, but in a different climate. We went off the coast of the Azores and watched for dolphins. Then there were some who reported from shore if dolphin or whale sightings were made and off we went .....

Rib boat in that environment also sounds exciting! Dolphins and whales are exciting to see 🙂.

Oh, what fun! Here I would have liked to go with you! Have tested rib boat off Lofoten and off Narvik but at and around Bodö. A top trip and fun that you both got to see many sea eagles and extra fun to pass the Salt Stream. Also fun to be able to go ashore on some of the islands and to have such a knowledgeable guide who could tell you.

Truly a fantastic trip! Can imagine that it is beautiful and cool at Lofoten and Narvik too! 🙂
