We hung out with cowboys and Indians in Templin, Germany. Really fun actually! We also have to say that Germany is extremely good at motorhome parking, and Templin is no exception. There are two large sites here: one that is completely free and one that you pay for and which also has very good service.

From Bad Segeberg to Templin
The German town of Templin is about seven kilometres north of Berlin, and we drove here after our visit to the bat caves in the Bad Segeberg. Attentive readers may think we're going back and forth and not quite logical, and there may be some truth to that. We booked the ferry tickets a long time ago, and after that we got tips on destinations we didn't want to miss. From now on, we will drive a little straighter, we think!
Templin
Located in the federal state of Brandenburg, Templin has a history dating back to at least the 13th century. It is also the hometown of Chancellor Angela Merkel, and throughout history it has seen hard times with fires, plagues, sieges and bombings.
After the 30-year war, when Templin was besieged by Danish troops, only 30 (!) of the town's original 413 families remained. But the town recovered and, after World War II, became a popular tourist destination.
Perhaps it was all the surrounding lakes, combined with the city's well-preserved 1735-metre-long and up to 7-metre-high ring wall, that attracted tourists. Three old city gates and the city's oldest building, St George's Chapel from the 14th century with St George and the dragon, which we recognise from old fairy tales. The discovery of a health spring led to the creation of the Natur Therme Templin spa, and today there is also a Wild West-themed adventure park.
El Dorado - among cowboys and Indians
In Templin is the western town (Die westernstadt) El Dorado. You should definitely go here if you're travelling with children - or maybe even if you're travelling without children and just want a bit of a western feel! We spent some lovely hours here watching a Western show and eating a cowboy lunch. If you want, you can also engage in various activities, such as panning for gold, shooting a bow and arrow, or riding a mock bull.
Show in El Dorado
Suddenly, the central street of El Dorado becomes a show. The prisoners are driven in carts to work, but overpower the rulers and escape in carts at full speed. The bank is robbed, the gunshots are loud and the smoke is thick. The actors perform skilful stunts by swinging on and off the horses at full speed, throwing themselves around the wagons and rooftops.
Cowboy lunch
We had a cowboy lunch with a big strong one each and a chilli con carne with beans and nachos. Usually when we travel by campervan we eat a simple lunch in the campervan, so eating out always feels luxurious!
Two pitches in Templin
One of the best things about Germany is all the great sites, and Templin is definitely no exception. There are two good sites here: one that's completely free and has some services, and one that's really modern and fresh that you pay for. Take your pick!
We stayed at the free parking lot, which is called Wohnmobil Rastplatz Templin and is very close to the centre. You can empty your rubbish and toilets here and you can also fill up drinking water in a vending machine (for one euro you can fill up 50-80 litres of water).
We also went to check out the second site, which is located at the Natur Therme Templin bathing centre. It is very nice and modern. Motorhomes are parked in four circles and there are ultra-modern service buildings and small "service stations" where you can empty your toilet box.
The price is basically €12 per night, but then you pay extra for things like electricity, water and showers. There's a swimming pool right next door, with everything from water parks for families to various spa treatments.

The cowboy lunch looked a little... Mexican? Nachos?
It's nice to have a little entertainment 😀.

Helena says:
Haha, yes a bit Mexican maybe? But the feeling was cowboy 🙂

Saw that my post under bats was not included! Bad luck!
But cowboys are always fun for children, but I think as an adult we refrain, but otherwise we like to visit Templin.

Has one of your comments not arrived? What a pity! I always check spam and rubbish bins, but haven't found anything there either ... Västernparken is best suited for a family with children, I agree. Templin can be visited regardless! 🙂

Our Vantastic Travels says:
Perhaps not so strange because this trip we have had a lot of trouble with the network, I did not think that 4G was so limited in the countryside and in small villages.
08 July 2018 - 10:33
Helena says:
Ah ok, then that may be the explanation! Hope it will go better in the future!

Wow what a nice mural! That's what I like.
El Dorado seems very similar to our High Chaparall in Småland or? Have a continued good trip! We like crooked trips! Then it is usually the best and most surprises. If you do not count fines for driving in the wrong country... ;D

I would think it's a bit like Hugh Chaparral (haven't been there). Fines for driving in the wrong country???

Maria / Magnolia Magis says:
Yes, keep track of which vinjette you have and where you are...Austria has its own and Switzerland its own. But if you are travelling on small roads, you can easily cross the border...

Ah, I see what you mean! 🙂 Yes, we know we need vignettes. Understand that you can miss when travelling small roads!!!

BP says:
I have never heard of Templin either. Great fun that the Germans invest in caravan and camping sites that are also free or incredibly cheap. I think it's because there are so many motorhome owners in this country. Oh service, order and order are key words for Germans;-)
05 July 2018 - 20:57
Helena says:
The Germans are the forerunners when it comes to pitches. Extremely popular to travel with a motorhome here! It will also be very easy to come as a motorhome tourist!
