We have now visited Neuzelle Abbey in eastern Germany. You don't have to be interested in churches to be fascinated by the impressive baroque architecture of the monastery. Right next door is a monastery brewery, so we got some monastery brew as well ...

From Potsdam to Neuzelle
Neuzelle is located in eastern Germany in Brandenburg about 13 kilometres northeast of Berlin, and it took us about an hour and a half to drive here from Potsdam. So what do you do in Neuzelle? Well, first and foremost, you travel here for the... fantastic the monastery. Otherwise, Neuzelle is a very small town.
Monastery of Neuzelle
The monastery (diocese) of Neuzelle is a former Roman Catholic monastery of the Cistercian order. It was originally founded in 1268, and the building that stands today was built in the 17th century. Monastery is known for its special baroque architecture, which is unique to the region. We are fascinated by these things!
The magnificent church, which is located in a small, small village, is decorated on the inside at every centimetre. There is also a large and beautiful monastery garden that every fine monastery or church should have. The river Oden is in connection with the monastery and the monastery brewery.
You can walk around the church for any length of time and look at the details. I was most fascinated by all the angels and their various creative activities. Those who know their Bible better than us might understand why the angels carry things like fish, tools and dice...?
Monastery brewery
Just outside the monastery is a monastery brewery founded in 1589. We got curious and bought a bunch of beers, so one day we'll go there. monastery beer tasting in the motorhome as the Schwarzer ABT variety.
Film from our trip in Germany
We have now left Germany and rolled into the Czech Republic. Peter has put together a film from our trip in Germany this time. Enjoy!
RV park in Neuzelle
We found a pitch in the centre of the small village, but unfortunately we had to leave after only a short while. With the help of the app CamperContact (which we usually use to find pitches and campsites) we found the pitch Zum Zickenzeller. It was very crowded to turn into the small car park and FREEDOM had a scratch on the road, but eventually we were in place.
The uncles who were repainting the house pulled out an electrical cord for us, and we prepared to stay overnight in the slightly disorganised chaos of the yard, among flowers, goats and a fish pond. But just as we were about to relax for the evening, we realised that the site was in total internet shadow, and how could we possibly blog...? We apologised for the inconvenience and rolled on to a regular car park nearby, where our internet worked perfectly.

Ruth in Virginia says:
Have had problems getting my comments through, but
here we go again.
Absolutely amazing to find something like that in a small village.
Where did the money come from? Who were the artists? I think about
the ceiling paintings; Michelangelo was praised for all time, but who
know who painted these ceilings?
Angels of all kinds - smoky is the word.

Helena says:
How sad that you had a hard time commenting Ruth! I don't know what the reason is... I hope things will go well in the future! And it is impressive to have such a masterpiece in a small village ...!

Our Vantastic Travels says:
If we had known this, we would have made a visit there because we were so close. We visited Kromlau which Imelda wrote about on her blog Livets Goda in April. Unfortunately, the bridge is under reconstruction so everything was fenced off and the bridge lost its lustre.
08 July 2018 - 10:45
Helena says:
Too bad the bridge was under construction when you went there... The monastery is highly recommended!

Parking in the total shadow of the internet doesn't sound too good.
The decoration of the church Pooh! Now that's what I call overkill.
Great film, as always. Was surprised by the Wild West element though.
Czech Republic next, that sounds interesting.
08 July 2018 - 13:17
Helena says:
Overkill is a good word! The Wild West became after our visit to the Wild West Park in Templin 😉 And yes, now it will be the Czech Republic for a while 😉.

Britt-Marie Lundgren says:
What a monastery! The kind of building you can walk around for ages and discover new things all the time.
It's opulent, not entirely beautiful but incredibly fascinating and definitely a place to visit if the roads lead that way.

Helena says:
You can walk around for quite a while, and all the time you will find new interesting figures and decorations 🙂.

BP says:
Sumptuous is exactly the word that first came to mind. And so did Steve, apparently. And I thought that monastic life is/was very spartan. Well, there you go.
The film was great as always. The Wild West part reminds me of old cowboy films shown in the 1960s.
08 July 2018 - 19:23
Helena says:
Haha, I thought monastic life was spartan and simple? 😉

Impressive what decorations were made in the past! They did not have all the tools we have today either... We were in Andechs monastery a few days ago and the monastery church there was of the same class as the one in your photos.
