We have to announce that the autumn group trip to Istria and Slovenia is cancelled, due to too few registrations. This is of course very sad, but in order for us to be able to plan better in the future, we hope to get some feedback from you!
Trip cancellation
The planned the trip to Istria and Slovenia in October, in collaboration with Resia, has unfortunately been cancelled. This also means that the promised competition, where you could win two free tickets, is cancelled. The reason is simply that we have received too few registrations, which makes it impossible to organise the trip.
"Of course, we are very sad about this. We had been really looking forward to this trip, and we had also spent a lot of time planning it. We have learned that organising a tour for 25 people, with accommodation, buses, excursions, boat trips, selected restaurants and so on takes a lot of time.
We understand that there can be many reasons for not booking a trip like this, not least the fantastic summer in Sweden, which means you may have run out of both holiday days and holiday budget. But we're just guessing, and we'd love some feedback from you. If we are able to organise another trip in the future, it will help us plan better!
What should a good trip be like for you?
What should a group trip look like to make you want to join? Please answer the following questions in a comment, or send us an email!
1. Is it appropriate for the trip to be a week long, or is it better if it is four or five days?
2. What is the best time of the year?
3. Do you want the meals to be shared and included in the price, or do you prefer to eat on your own?
4. What is the maximum cost of the trip?
5. Is there anything else that is important to you to make you want to book a group trip?
We would be very grateful if you would give us feedback on this! Tomorrow we continue our reports from the insanely beautiful country of Switzerland!
Annar Aas says:
I think maybe one reason is that many of your followers are motorhome people after all. We absorb everything you write about both travel and places, but your motorhome trip around Europe made us become followers. We have finished travelling by plane and bus. Don't know but maybe there are more like us.

Ann-Louise says:
So sad and especially with all this planning work that you have now done in vain 🙁 I was very eager to follow but have not been able to register as I am waiting for a message that is delayed (and that message was crucial to whether I could follow or not) ...
However, I think the planning of the trip sounded very good! My only spontaneous comments are that 4-5 days may be better than a whole week and that it might have been good to have a clear date when to register at the latest. I think many people think about signing up but then it does not happen because they think they can wait a few more days to decide. Keep your fingers crossed that you will have the opportunity to make a new trip like this sometime in the future.

Mr Steve says:
Sad of course. However, I cannot provide much feedback as I personally would never go on a group trip. That's just me. Better luck with future trips. Now you suddenly have time for yourself. For a trip, perhaps.

Britt-Marie Lundgren says:
For our part, we have given up on group trips to places where we can go by motorhome. We used to travel with Lars' sister-in-law, who for at least 30 years has organised very ambitious trips by plane-bus or just bus to most destinations in Europe. They are great but we like the free motorhome life. Know how much work it is to plan and thought that there were many who were interested when you presented the trip. Too bad for you when it goes pm nothing.

Husis blog says:
What a shame as this extensive planning has certainly taken a lot of time and energy.
I can only speak for my owners who like to spend their holidays on and with me. If they choose to make a trip without me, it is to avoid snow and slush and instead experience warmth. This will then be a trip in January - March.
Travelling in a group is unfortunately not something for my owners either. It may be enough for a few days, then they want to take care of themselves so they have never participated in a bus trip etc.
Could it be that many motorhome owners read the blog and that these people also like the free life of travelling with us motorhomes and thus also take many of their holidays for this purpose?

Hello!
Sad that the trip did not happen for you and with all the planning it involved. I would have liked to come along but it was not possible this time.
I think 4-5 days would be better and if you were given a date in advance, it would be easier to plan your holiday.
Spring or autumn probably doesn't matter.
Some meals together are included in the price but most are on your own.
It is difficult to say how much it may cost.

How sad that your trip was cancelled! I understand that you put in a lot of work.
I can only speak for myself and may not be a big fan of group travel. Admittedly, I am very social (as you know, hehe) but also a bit of a loner. Would like to have a trip that also allows a larger measure of personal time, both to stroll around on your own and to eat. Think it can be a little too packed otherwise and difficult to keep the attention and social ability on top.
I also believe that a shorter trip will make it easier for participants to save time and money. On the one hand, I think many may find it difficult to get a longer period of time off in the middle of the semester, and on the other hand, I think many want to reserve the holiday days for family trips / other private trips. But those were just some spontaneous thoughts!
You are doing a fantastic job. Wishing you a great weekend!

Quite simple, not an attractive destination, as we go there ourselves.

Hasse says:
Oh well, maybe there is no interest in such an arrangement.
An idea for an arrangement, could be that you drive yourself between places and then meet together and exchange experience, a joint trip but not. I met Dutch people who did it that way, it sounded exciting.

Four reflection I make are:
# Nice initiative by you to organise a slightly special and niche trip.
# The detailed programme was released on 12 August, less than two months before departure. Perhaps too little notice.
# You cancel the trip because of too few registrations just five days after releasing the programme. Perhaps a little more publicity and more waiting time would have encouraged more people to sign up.
# With the reservation that I do not know what your commercial model looks like with your partners, but in order to establish yourself as an organiser, you may have to accept that the first trip is a loss-making affair. It will probably be more difficult to arrange the next trip now that the first one was cancelled.
Having said that, I really wish you good luck with the next project - I appreciate those who try to get involved in different fun projects!
Regards, Krister

What a shame, it really looked like such a wonderful trip! For our part, which has school children, it is trips on school holidays and some weekend trips that apply.
Group travel is not really our bag either, but a ready-made arrangement like yours is great if you have little time to plan!

Both the price level and the length were well planned. Awesome arrangement that I kind of want to steal straight off. Unfortunately, it did not suit me in terms of time, the holiday days (and savings haha) are over and I want to save comp hours for the winter trip. Summer / spring would have been better for me personally. And maybe longer planning, many people book themselves on such trips at least six months before (at least if you compare with bus companies). Hope you do not put the project aside but run another time instead!

Maria/ Magnolia Magis says:
As several have answered, it is perhaps mostly motorhome people who read your blog and I think even motorhome drivers choose to go by themselves. For example, we ourselves. We have a hard time with group travel, loners that we are. Great fun meeting people, for a little while! So maybe you should turn to the travel companies and their clientele? Travel dates out early as many people plan their holidays far in advance.
Really sad that there was nothing because as I said it is a horse job you have done! Better luck next time! You have found many nice gems that are written on the to-see list!

So sad that the trip was cancelled - And since I myself now work with some travel planning and am a tour guide / guide, I know how much work it is - Everything should work out.
I knew I couldn't go because I was planning to do some travelling myself. It was a good price too.
One thought I have is that since many motorhome owners read your blog, they are travelling themselves. I know that the travel agency I work for usually combines flights and bus trips around Europe and many times they are fully booked. But not always. Some destinations draw more than others. Now I do not know if Resia also marketed the trip in some way, but maybe it would have helped.
I think it is good that some meals are included and others completely free. Reasonable for a similar trip, have looked a little, is something between 10,000 and 13,000 if most dinners are included as well as some lunches and guides and good hotels with breakfast and excursions and entrances.
Some thoughts....
Personally, I prefer to travel on my own but could have imagined the trip you have planned. And perhaps with a slightly less packed programme.

No, what a shame! So much time that I understand that you have spent! Since I knew from the beginning that the date did not suit me, I have not looked very closely at the organisation and costs, but will give you some spontaneous feedback.
1. 4-5 days seems reasonable.
2. The second half of the year is best.
3. Either one, or a mix. Nice to eat together, but maybe nice to have your own time too.
4. Not important as long as it feels somewhat affordable.
5. In general, I appreciate (before travelling, meetings, events, whatever) when things are organised. Order, clear information, well thought out. Better a no than a yes that you can't keep. Yes, I can handle "we have no more info right now, but it will come" and I can handle "jump and play" time without scheduled activities as well 😉 I have a hard time with the "it will work out" attitude from organisers. Sure things always work out, but often at the expense of time, money or the commitment of others. Of course, unforeseen things can happen that you have to solve, but if you have such an attitude from the start, it feels a bit nonchalant. But, none of that feels like I need to think about when it comes to you. It feels like you are the ones who have an eye on the situation!

Come on, you're the best at travelling. By motorhome. Your tips cost us nothing but time to read. We have travelled with a group trip since 2005, skiing in Chamonix with our boys. Half board. Nothing else. Otherwise a group trip to Holland with Scandorama. The group limits your freedom to do what you want for the day. And we have absolutely stopped flying!!! Motorhome diesel is unfortunately still there. We are retired. Can travel when it suits us. Mostly eat in the motorhome, shop at markets and harbours. Fish, green and fresh. Keep travelling and reporting. Grateful!
P.s we have been in Istria and Slovenia several times.

Agree with the previous speaker, sorry you had to cancel. I know you are committed to doing this well and it was an interesting programme. You have worked hard for this.
Perhaps the programme itself should have been ready a little earlier when you submitted your expression of interest. I don't think the season is so important, but many of us have followed you and others on their travels there. Motorcyclists can travel there whenever they want and at any time of year, basically.
For my own part, I liked the arrangement as I probably/never go there with a motorhome but as a single person it was a bit too much in terms of cost with over two thousand per day.
Certainly several excursions, bus transport etc. Hope you come back with new ideas.
See you when you get home.

I feel most sorry for those of you who have put in so much effort and work.
Personally, I/we have never gone on a group trip/organised trip. Just don't like it.
Now you got a lot of feedback from your readers, so maybe that feedback will help you in the future. Personally, I wouldn't take on another project like that, it's not worth it.
Now that you are free that week, maybe you can do something on your own.

I travel by motorhome and follow you first and foremost before your travelogues and adventures you write about in that world. Group travel not my cup of tea. See it all as a new opportunity and not a defeat. Sounds like several of your followers here are pretty consistent. Think about what focus and direction you want your blog to take. You are doing a great job!

How sad for you! As a self-employed person, I understand what a lot of work you have done. For us, it's pretty much all about travelling by motorhome. The only country I would like to go on a group trip to is Israel. But then I would like to go with those who have visited the country countless times and know the whole history and the Bible story.

Lena in Wales says:
I have worked in the travel industry for many years and cancellations are not uncommon. Sometimes you choose to go even though there are not enough people signed up for the sake of a good reputation, but that doesn't always work either.
You have also been unlucky with such good weather in Sweden that many people do not want to go to more heat. There have been very few bookings in general for autumn this summer due to the weather.
So don't give up, better luck next time.

But how strange! I wrote a long post that just said poof! GONE!
So this is a summary ...
Wrong time to publish - in the middle of the holidays
Too short between - plan for spring instead
View on other forums - this is mostly "motorhome fanatics" judging by the responses.
There is definitely a desire and need for organised travel and I think yours sounds very good and interesting. So don't give up, here we go again!

Hello!
Spontaneously, I think mostly about the time aspect, feels like just the other day when I saw on FB that you had posted about the trip. I think most people need more time to plan, decide, review the economy, etc. At least in the "group travel target group"
And perhaps there is some truth in what many write here about the moon group. But in spite of everything, I mostly believe in time.
Good luck with future projects!

Maria's Memoirs says:
1. One week would be just about right for me.
2. I would say autumn or spring when it comes to Europe.
3. A bit of both is fine. When it is on the programme to walk around a place on your own, you might as well have lunch on your own, but in the context of another programme it is better to do it together. Then it can feel more comfortable with joint dinners, I think.
4. Difficult to set a maximum price as it depends on the length of the trip, destination, what is included, etc. But of course you want as favourable as possible. Possibly with the possibility of different price ranges on accommodation, although I understand that there is more planning behind it as well.
5. Since the planning and final announcement of the trip was postponed, I think there were many who no longer had the opportunity to come along, maybe they already had planned something else instead. I myself was close to doing it myself when it started to approach and I almost missed the opportunity to apply for leave of absence, which with hindsight I really should have done too.. 😉 But no hard feelings, it gets like that sometimes 🙂

What an ambitious programme you have planned for this trip! I only now realise what I missed...
For us, who have been driving around on our own for many years, an organised group trip seems appropriate from time to time. Mostly so that my husband - who is the driver - can relax and experience the surroundings as well.
The mix of shared and private meals is perfect. A week's journey feels just right. Then you have time to enjoy in peace and quiet too.
Price is of course important, it's all about what's included. Time of year - spring or autumn feels best.
And then there is the matter of planning ahead. Need a few months.
