We had a great time during our motorhome trip in Europe, but it's still not bad to be back home in the houseboat. The best thing about living in a houseboat is that it never feels as boring to come home after a trip, as we sometimes thought before. It is always nice to see the boat again!
At home in the houseboat
We really enjoy the campervan, but we also enjoy the houseboat, which is in the Pampas marina in Solna. In the houseboat we are a little more comfortable than in the motorhome, as we have a washing machine and dishwasher, for example. We can't get a new view every day, as we can in the motorhome, but on the other hand we think the view we have is fantastic.
It's great to be surrounded by water, and all around us we have a vibrant bird life with swans, ducks and herons. Now in the summer, there are also plenty of boats going in and out of the marina, and on sunny days there are plenty of people on the water. restaurant K4. And of course we are surrounded by our neighbours, who live in the 40 or so other houseboats in the same marina.
Now we will spend quite a lot of time in the houseboat for some time to come, and among other things work on updating everything on the blog that we did not have time for during the trip. Peter will edit more films and we will also update our pages with travel tips and campsites.
What is it like to live in a houseboat?
We love houseboat life, and if you've been following our blog for a while, you probably know most things about living in a houseboat. If you're a new follower, check out a previous post where we answered the following questions frequently asked questions about living in a houseboat. There we answer all the questions that people usually ask, such as whether it's rocking, whether it's damp and where the sewage goes ...
Lena - good for the soul says:
It does not look crazy at all there. But no, I probably wouldn't fix that rocking thing 🙂 .

Helena says:
I usually don't think about the fact that it's rocking a bit, only when I've been away for a while 😉.

You really have a cosy place to come home to and I understand that there is a lot of work to do after the trip. This week we got our photo books from the printer, but my little "financial summary", which I usually do, is still there waiting. It will soon be autumn dust. If nothing else, I signed my retirement notice yesterday.... Oh, how strange it feels to look forward to an endless leave after almost 45 years of work!

Helena says:
Fun with photo books! Financial summary doesn't sound as fun, but smart! 😉

It can be quite nice when things get back to normal. You have time to digest and reflect on what you have been through. After a while, you long for the next trip and new planning begins, that part is also fun.
Welcome to Sweden.

Welcome home <3
Your view from the houseboat will change in summer/autumn as well as winter/spring, I would love to live by the water even if I don't think the houseboat is the best option as I get seasick on a pier 😉.

Helena says:
Thank you Åsa! And yes, the view does change depending on the season! Good thing we don't get seasick 😉.

Gunnel says:
Houseboats are not for me. The slightest rocking makes me seasick. I settle for an occasional ferry ride between Helsingborg and Elsinore. That's quite enough. But it is fun to read about how you are doing.

Helena says:
It just rocks a little, but if you get seasick, it might be nicer to be on land! 😉

I understand that you are enjoying your houseboat accommodation. And what a lovely environment to sit and work in. With a coffee break out on deck from time to time.

Welcome home! The proximity to water you have in any case, regardless of whether you live in a motorhome or motorboat 🙂 The main thing is that you enjoy your accommodation, I myself had never managed to live on a boat.

Helena says:
Thank you very much! I'm sure not everyone enjoys boating, but we love it!

Very nice with the proximity to water! And nice with a washing machine after the long journey, I can imagine. Ours went all weekend, but now we are in the race with the laundry!

I recognise the laundry! ? I have washed and washed and washed ...

Welcome home! We would love to live on a boat... if I didn't feel sick at the slightest bend... ? You've got a nice place here!

Thank you!!! The rocking is very faint, but maybe not everyone likes it 😉.

BP says:
We walked past Pampas Marina yesterday. Saw "lill-Freedom" in the car park, but we did not see the motorhome. Not your nice houseboat either, as the restaurant was closed when we were there around 17:00. Then we actually got a little angry, as we wanted a pitstop and a beer right then. Instead, there was a liquid break at Bagpipers Inn on Rörstrandsgatan.
04 September 2018 - 21:30
Helena says:
The motorhome is in the "outer" car park. What a shame that it was closed!!! Next time you can knock on our door, we have beer at home from the trip! ??

Ditte says:
And coming home now to the houseboat and Stockholm is perfect. Lovely weather too. Living close to the water is so nice and I can imagine that houseboat life is. Have never tried but we have had a regular boat for many years. I also appreciate our accommodation on the quay. No houseboat but surrounded by water and boats / houseboats and with constantly changing views. Wishing you nice days at home.

The Shetland Wife says:
It seems very cosy to live in a houseboat. By the way, I think I'm changing my view on "boating" in general, something that has been as far away as possible before.
