This is where the campers went in Summer Sweden

When Sweden's leading campsite chain First Camp summarised the past summer, the lists of Swedes, Danes and Germans are topped by destinations in southern Sweden, while Norwegian visitors prefer northern Sweden. Every fourth guest at First Camp is either Norwegian, German, Danish or Dutch. This is what the top lists look like, broken down by visitor nationality:

  • Swedes: Tylösand, Åhus, Kolmården
  • Norwegians: Luleå, Umeå, Karlstad
  • Germans: Malmö, Åhus, Mölle
  • Danes: Mölle, Malmö, Torekov
  • Dutch: Malmö, Åhus, Mölle

Upwards for caravans in 2019

This year, caravan sales have declined slightly, while motorhomes have continued to grow. Next year, caravan sales in Sweden are expected to increase by 1.8 per cent, while motorhomes are expected to lose 5.2 per cent compared to this year. This is according to a recent industry survey commissioned by Elmia Husvagn Husbil.

In a five-year perspective, retailers believe that the industry is "at least as strong then as now". Campandet's popularity is linked to security in Sweden, the freedom of mobile life, health trends and the quest for a climate-smart life.

One in three people find it hard to be back in everyday life

Despite a nice and long summer, one in three Swedes find it difficult to be back in everyday life, according to a SIFO survey commissioned by Resia. More women than men find it hard, and it is worst for those between 35 and 49 years old. The people of Småland are the least affected, while those living in upper Norrland think it is the most difficult. This is how Swedes choose to cope with the unpleasant feeling:

  1. Returning to my normal routines without much reflection (49 %)
  2. Indulging in my current hobbies (28 %)
  3. Booking or preparing a new trip (23 %)
  4. Other/doubtful (13 %)
  5. Finding new hobbies (6 %)
