This weekend we spent a hotel night at Gothia Towers in Gothenburg. Of course, we can't stay in a hotel without giving a hotel review, so here it is! Please let us know if you stayed at this hotel, or if you have any other favourite hotels in Gothenburg.

Trains and unexpected art
We travelled by train to Gothenburg on Friday to be present when my (Helena's) mother was awarded an honorary doctorate. The train journey down was comfortable and smooth, although we were delayed 14 minutes due to some kind of fire.
The first thing we noticed when we came out of the central station was the artwork. What did they remind us of? Our visit to Nice 2017 of course! We had no idea that we would encounter the same artwork in Gothenburg. Does anyone know more about these artworks?
Gothia Towers in Gothenburg
We stayed at Gothia Towers, which was perfect because the doctoral degree ceremony was held right here. Gothia Towers is a hotelbut is also much more. It has a wide range of restaurants and bars, a spa and facilities for conferences, meetings, banquets and parties. Art exhibitions and shows with famous artists are also organised here. Yes, and the Swedish Trade Fair Centre is here.
Staying at Gothia Towers
We got a room on the sixth floor in tower 3. The room was absolutely excellent with comfortable beds, large good TV, free WiFi and fresh bathroom with a nice shower. If we were to complain about anything, it was that it was a bit chilly in the room. We would say that it is absolutely perfect to stay here if you are visiting an event at Gothia Towers, Svenska Mässan or something else nearby, such as Liseberg or Scandinavium.
Hotel breakfast at Gothia Towers
I (Helena) got a migraine on Saturday and could not eat the hotel breakfast, unfortunately. I know, sooo boring! It looked fresh and there was also a large selection for those who have allergies or hypersensitivity.
Surface-mounted pool
There are also some cool features on Gothia Towers. One of these is a surface-mounted glass lift with great views. Another is an outdoor pool, which is part of the Upperhouse Spa & Relax. We had planned to look around a bit, but since I got a migraine, it didn't happen. Therefore, it will be a press photo from Gothia Towers instead. It looks a bit cool, that pool!
Getting to Gothia Towers
It is very easy to get to Gothia Towers from the central station. Simply hop on tram number 2 and go to Korsvägen. You can buy a ticket or card at the Tourist Office or at Västtrafik points of sale (e.g. kiosks and grocery stores), which are recognised by their blue flags and façade stickers.
Have you stayed at Gothia Towers, or perhaps been there in some other context? Please tell us!

Visited Gothenburg the last time I was in Sweden,
but I stayed with Veiken for free.
Got a personally guided tour of beautiful Gothenburg.
Both Veiken and her husband are natives. 🙂

Stayed there in December to see a show at Rondo and go to Liseberg's Christmas market. Good location, but think the hotel itself is a bit over-advertised. The glass exhibition by Bertil Vallin was nice. Their prawn sandwich, which they advertise so much, was a disappointment. How can you put pickles on a prawn sandwich?. Okay hotel, but no more. Maybe it feels that way because the expectations were so high from all the advertising.
I can recommend another hotel with rooms that were really something out of the ordinary. New hotel Strandpiren in Hudiksvall. The corner room I got was like a small suite. The bathroom large as a hotel room just that, jacuzzi for two with underwater lighting. The hotel is located on the seafront. View straight across the water, guest dock at the outdoor dining area available in the summer. Quite okay restaurant, also with the same wonderful view. Now I was there in the autumn, but in the summer it must be a real winner.

Thanks for the hotel tips! Sounds nice!

Yes, have stayed at Gothia Towers a number of times! Think it is good, fresh rooms, good restaurants, good gym and perfect location. However, I think that the breakfast room was a little too big, but I think that in the picture it looks like Peter is at some other breakfast place than I have been to. Do not know if there is more than one breakfast place?
During the holidays they have also had activities for children, like baking - which is fun!
It is also easy to get there if you have flown, as the airport bus stops at the crossroads.
23 October 2018 - 7:56
Helena says:
It could still be the same breakfast restaurant. It was big and there were several different places where you could get food.

What a hotel! I love the view and the pool there. But so sad that you got a migraine...
I have no idea about those tall guys, but we saw similar guys in Andorra la Vella in June 2017:

Hmm... They seem to be popping up everywhere. I wonder if they are aliens who have plans to take over the earth? Scary... 😉

Helena says:
But cool! Those guys seem to be super popular! Or haha, who knows, they could be aliens ... 😉 ...

Have stayed there a couple of times when I was working at the travel fair held at the Swedish Exhibition Centre many years ago. Thought it was a really good hotel. Have also been back a few times after that to eat the fantastic shrimp sandwich served in the restaurant at the top. Like places with a view so then this hotel is really good!
23 October 2018 - 10:02
Helena says:
Next time (when I don't have a migraine) I will check out the lift and the view up there! 🙂

My favourite hotel in Gothenburg is Odin, Clarion Collection, near the Central Station.
Coffee and dinner are included.
Stayed there several times, including at Christmas.
Avalon, Kungsportsplatsen, is also nice.
However, it is quite expensive.
I have stayed at Gothia many years ago, thought it was good.

Ditte says:
How nice to stay here and both room and breakfast looked very nice. But sad with Helena's migraine. Have stayed here once and it was perfectly ok. But I have also stayed at hotel Pigalle and hotel Dorsia, which is a little "more central," if you are going to be in the city. Both the two hotels are in the smaller format "boutique hotels" and I like them better. I recommend both.

Helena says:
Thanks for the hotel tips! Of course, the best location depends on where you're going 😉.

Britt-Marie Lundgren says:
We don't usually stay in hotels in Gothenburg (a bit too close and with two daughters in the city). However, I have stayed one night at Gothia Tower when we were there with work. Admittedly before the time of the pool, but a perfectly ok hotel, with its sky bar.
23 October 2018 - 13:45
Helena says:
We missed the sky bar. It will be next time 😉

My owners almost never stay in hotels in Gothenburg as they have a lot of family there. However, they have been to Gothia Towers and eaten a few times and the food and views are wonderful from their restaurant. The shrimp sandwiches are divinely good and large, my female owner thinks, while my male owner always chooses something else good.
23 October 2018 - 19:31
Helena says:
Glad that you have also been here! We will try the shrimp sandwich another time 🙂 (However, I ate a good shrimp salad ;))

I haven't slept over at Gothia Towers, but many of my colleagues have. My company always held its events there. As I understand it, they are most taken by the fantastic view, the sky bar and the now world-famous prawn sandwich.
Here are some links where you can follow the sculptures of Spanish artist Jaume Plensa. These very sculptures you have seen in Gothenburg and Nice are scattered in several places. However, the "people" do different things in the sculptures. Very cool.

I often stay with friends because I grew up partly in Gothenburg, but otherwise I love Post with its rooftop pool. However, Gothia is the second choice after a couple of visits during the big spring football tournament, Future Cup, when we stayed there at football prices. I like most of it.

Anette says:
It looks like a good hotel, with a swimming pool and an "extra-all-in" breakfast.
Having a lot to choose from for breakfast is a definite advantage, nowadays it's not just traditional hotel breakfasts, thankfully.
I have not stayed in a hotel in Gothenburg so many times, my sister-in-law lives on Hönö so we usually stay there.
Last time we stayed at Hotel Pigalle, a small boutique hotel, very nice.
24 October 2018 - 3:53
Helena says:
I also like lovely hotel breakfasts with lots to choose from 🙂 Boutique hotels can be cosy!

Johanna in Skåne says:
Oh, I was also there on Saturday! First time inside the house. I was there in the evening with my "Tuesday dinner friends". We went to high school together and have dinner together every Tuesday and were visiting a friend who had moved from Skåne. We stayed in Majorna during our visit, but visited Heaven 23 and drank good drinks - e.g. Sting like a bee (crushed ice and chilli vodka etc., really stinging).
24 October 2018 - 13:36
Helena says:
Is it true? What a coincidence! We left on Saturday at noon but then we were there almost at the same time anyway! The world is good small sometimes! 🙂
