It's Friday again, friends! Even though it may seem like we're mingling around at a lot of fun events, most of our days consist of everyday life and work. So this week we're sharing some photos from our daily walk to work. And okay, there will be some photos from an event at Café Opera too!
Animals on the way to work
I (Helena) walk to work every day, and Peter almost always walks with me. We live somewhat centrally in Stockholm (actually in Solnabut on the border with the city of Stockholm) and walk to Torsplan, in the north-west part of Vasastan. In case you're wondering how Peter's knees are doing by the way, it is not so good. He has seen an orthopaedic surgeon and is now waiting for an appointment for blood tests.
You might think that we don't see many animals on the way to my job, but that's not the case. completely error. We start in Pampas marina and there we almost always see ducks, swans or maybe "our" heron.
We then continue along the lake Karlbergssjön and here crawling it really is full of Canada geese right now. At the moment there are so many Canada geese that you have to avoid both them and their grass-coloured turds on the pavement. Incidentally, there are also plenty of squirrels here. They are too fast for my camera when they run fast across the road though ...
When we then continue under the Pampaslänken/Klarastrandsleden to enter Vasastan, we see all the rabbits living under there. Why they live there is a bit unclear, but as far as we know they have lived there for decades. Sometimes you can read about the problem of rabbits breeding rampantly in Stockholm and Solna. At the same time, many people probably think that these "pests" are cute and you sometimes see that they have hay, heads of lettuce and carrots under the bridge ...
After about 35 minutes of walking, we arrive at my job at Torsplan, and the most interesting sight there right now is the first of the two "Northern Towers". So there's not only animals and nature in Stockholm, but also a bit of a city feel. Just in case you were starting to have doubts!
Event at Café Opera
Last night we also mingled at an event at Café Opera, organised by the Dolomites. The Dolomites are the part of the Alps located in northern Italy, and we have long wanted to travel here. When we came to Val Gardena last summer it didn't turn out as planned, but as we wrote then, we want to give the area another chance. We started yesterday evening with a beer at the The brewery, which is located right next to Café Opera (on the lake side). A fantastic venue!
Then we listened to a presentation about the Dolomites on the terrace of Café Opera. We got to see really amazing nature pictures with mountains, waterfalls and bike trails. So yes, we are eager to see more of this area! There was also a little Italian buffet with, among other things, vitello tonnato (veal with tuna sauce), salmon and artichoke. Very tasty! What are your experiences of the Dolomites?

Nice with a little "wilderness life" in the city! We usually see some deer, herons and lots of other birds on our walks out here in the countryside. On the bird table we have everything from blue tits to pheasant and also squirrels, cats, deer and a marten have been observed on and under the bird table!

Helena says:
Nice with all the animals you get to see! A little special with marten! You also see an unexpected amount of animals in the city, but not just martens perhaps 😉 .

Reiselinda says:
Well, we were also surprised when we realised that it wasn't a cat sitting on the bird table. Has only happened once and it was quite exotic!

åsa/nalta norland says:
I know that there are plenty of birds in Stockholm's waters... but I had never heard of rabbits, I didn't know that there are wild rabbits in Stockholm... are they really rabbits and not hares?
Regarding the malicious person who managed to go to so much trouble and find out where my mother lives so they could put a letter in her mailbox and her mobile phone number, the person in question must be evil, it is not me who is hurt but my mother and our relationship is deteriorating, so why do something like that unless you are simply genuinely evil. Scary.

Helena says:
I think they were domestic rabbits that were released at some point and then multiplied. That's what I think anyway. And yes, you really wonder why people do these things????
26 October 2018 - 16:20
åsa/nalta norland says:
I had to google and yes, they are rabbits,
but I couldn't find out how it started.
I guess it's just that people have too much free time 😉.

Oh what a cute rabbit! Oh I want to go skiing in Italy too.
Have a nice weekend big hug

Helena says:
There are a lot of those cute rabbits out there!

Emma, sun like sun? says:
The rabbits are cute but ... Well, what does it look like along Klarastrandsleden? At least it used to be like a Swiss cheese. That's how it is with everything that has no natural enemies (apart from traffic - if you want to call it natural): they spread unchecked.
Hard on his knee! Mentally stressful also for everyone, although it is of course worst for the person affected. Hope you will soon find out what the problem is and that it will of course be good.
Have a great weekend!
26 October 2018 - 9:20
Helena says:
Klarastrandsleden? I have no idea actually ... And it can be tricky with animals that don't have natural enemies.

I remember a ski trip to Livigno in the Dolomites many years ago. Some memories are somewhat foggy, while others are more clear. 😉 It offered relatively ok skiing and so we ate a gigantic large pizza, I remember at least. When it comes to motorhomes, I think there is a really luxurious campsite in the Dolomites. Would have been fun to test, right?
26 October 2018 - 10:38
Helena says:
Hope the clear memories are nice ones! 🙂 Yes, maybe it will be the Dolomites with a motorhome at some point 🙂.

You have a real zoo on your way to work 🙂 Not that I want to be like that but... Those "Canada geese" in your picture are actually barnacle geese. Ooops! Now I was like that anyway 😉 But the poop is just as creepy no matter what kind of goose it might be 🙂.
The Dolomites have fantastic skiing too. Sella Ronda is a nice route that takes you around the amazingly beautiful mountains 🙂.
Hope that Peter's knee will be fine as soon as possible!
Have a happy Friday 😀.

Helena says:
Aha, so yes, I'm super bad at birds ... But it's great to be "like that" 😉 May have to correct the text there 😉 I can imagine that skiing in the Dolomites is wonderful! 🙂

How nice to meet animals on your way to work, even in the city centre. A good start to the day.
Ending the evening at Café Opera doesn't sound too bad. This can be seen as a reward for doing a good job.
It's tough with Peter's knee. I hope it gets better soon.
The best part of my week has been that I've already managed to come to terms with the fact that winter is coming and it's time to "hibernate". Have a nice weekend!
26 October 2018 - 12:26
Helena says:
It's nice with all the animals in town I think! 🙂 And yes now autumn is really here .... wish you a nice autumn at Getingstorp!

What a nice walkway! Animals and nature are quality of life. Here we hear the Canada geese, magpies and jackdaws every day... It was nicer with the blackbird in Skåne. Best of the week- hm... met the kids, met the bonus grandchildren, mum came here,...but the best was probably when they called and said that I have got an operation time in the beginning of November, finally!!!! Otherwise, the cold starts to come here and we light all the candles we have. Nice heat source and cosy. More episodes of Outlander underway and two soft rabbits soon finished. (A year and a half since I started just..) The husband is at anchor with back pain so here is quite calm. Being in pain hurts, so take care of the knee Peter! Hope you have a nice weekend! Happy Friday!!!

Helena says:
But how nice that you got an operation time! Hard to wait and not know. Soft rabbits? I have missed them. Maybe you can see? Have a nice weekend!

A nice walk with a good combo. As for the rabbits, these were here when I lived at Karlberg Castle in the late 50s and later I saw them there, around both the Pampas area, Jungfrudansen and Huvudsta farm. Originally they were domestic rabbits that both escaped and were released and they multiply quickly. I know that Solna City has shot a lot of them but they are still there. Here in Söder, we also have a bunch in Tullgårdsparken and surely they are also in other places here.
Nice with the event at Café Opera. The Dolomites are favoured here and I have mostly been there in the winter for many years, skiing. But also in the summertime. In the summertime we have come in June and then there were not so many people. Well worth giving the Dolomites a second chance.
Have a nice weekend

Helena says:
Interesting that rabbits have been around for so long! I also remember reading about them being shot once, a few years ago. And yes, we are happy to explore the Dolomites again! 🙂

How nice it is that you are within walking distance of work. Then the everyday exercise is partly completed. If you then get to see some nice views and some animals, it is a pure bonus. Too bad about Peter's knee. Hope for a quick recovery!
We travelled through the Dolomites last summer and now we want to go back with time for some scenic hikes.
Tonight, Johan Boding's Queen concert awaits, perhaps the best of the week?
26 October 2018 - 17:00
Helena says:
Having walking distance to work is fantastic. Just as you write, there will be some free everyday exercise 🙂 Hope the concert was really good!!!

But wow, it's already Friday! Yes, that's the best thing about our week - that we don't actually know what day of the week it is. Otherwise, I must say it was eating oranges and clementines here in Valencia, locally produced in the fields we drive past. So wonderfully flavourful - never experienced anything like it.
26 October 2018 - 20:54
Helena says:
Haha, how nice to not have to keep track of days of the week 🙂 Wonderful with flavourful local fruits!

The most fun thing about Stockholm is being in the countryside in the middle of the city, and you prove it with your pictures from your walk to work.
It's funny that rabbits are tolerated in the city centre, but not rats;-)
The food at Café Opera - yummy! You really do choose the right events to go to. Because the stomach actually wants to be involved in a corner. In addition, you don't have to cook;-)
The Dolomites as a ski area are absolutely superb. Marmolada as the highest glacier, Kanazei and Sella pass. The Dolomites are almost in the same class as the French Alps - motorways that is:-)
26 October 2018 - 21:38
Helena says:
I also like that, that animals and nature are in the middle of the city. And yes haha, it is important to choose the right events 😉 Would love to go skiing in the Dolomites!

What cute rabbits there are, they look like baby rabbits!
Above Bolzano, the earth pyramids are well worth a visit! The Dolomites have many hiking trails that are quite tough, something to try.
