Polferrie's new ferry is here, and it feels more than welcome. M/F Nova Star, built in 2011, will operate the route between Nynäshamn and Gdansk. Peter has been on a press tour this week and today we can show pictures of the new ship.

Ferry line Nynäshamn - Gdansk
We have both loved and hated the ferry line between Nynäshamn and Gdansk. We've loved it because it's an insanely smooth route from Stockholm to Europe, especially if, like us, you're fond of Poland. Instead of starting your European trip with a long, boring drive through Sweden, you can travel in comfort with dinner in a restaurant in the evening and a night in a new hotel.
So why have we hated it? Well, hated is probably a bit of a strong word, but it has simply been a boring ferry. But now Polferries has a brand new vessel that will operate the Nynäshamn - Gdansk route. Peter has been on a press tour this week and looked at the new ferry.
Polferrie's new ferry M/F Nova Star
Built in 2011 in Singapore, the new MF Nova Star was purchased from France after the French regretted their new purchase and wanted a different type of ferry. The ship is 162 metres long and carries 1215 passengers.
There are 648 berths on board, divided into 155 4-berth cabins and seven luxury 4-berth cabins. There are also 248 reclining seats and 279 metres of cargo space. There is also a shop, a la carte restaurant, bars, cafeteria, disco, casino and playroom.
Lunch on board
At the press preview, the ferry offered a buffet lunch, and Peter took the opportunity to eat our favourite Polish soup: zurek. Don't miss this soup if you're travelling to Poland, super tasty!
Cruise to Gdansk
Polferries now offers a 66-hour cruise to Gdansk, with overnight stays on board including the night from Sunday to Monday when the ferry is in port. Sample price for a cruise for four people is 850 SEK/party (outside 4-bed cabin and buffet breakfast every morning).
Peter's opinion was that the ferry does not offer anything that stands out but is relatively "ordinary", but that on the other hand it is much nicer and more pleasant than the old ferries. So it's a bit more tempting to travel this route again! Read more about what you can see and do in Poland:

It sounds nice with a 66-hour trip and that you can stay on board the whole time. The crux is to get to Nynäshamn. The transport to your side of the country is usually cancelled unfortunately!

Of course, it depends on where you live whether it's a practical route or not. Absolutely true!

Could be a trip sometime in the future!

Why not? We were almost tired of this route, but now it's more appealing!

Nice that they have spruced up that line a bit anyway. Those transport ferries can be pretty boring. Quite a difference to travel for example the distance Barcelona - Rome on such a ferry compared to travelling on a cruise ship 😉 But they undoubtedly fulfil their function by avoiding having to drive many miles in the car to get from point A to point B.

There is a big difference between a cruise ship and a cruise liner! Some become a pleasure, while others are pure transport ...

Not a day too soon I would say! Great that Polferries could buy a "used" ferry from France. The old ferries were even dirty, especially "at the bottom". One must not forget in this context that this particular ferry is mainly used as a transport ferry for craftsmen/construction workers who commute between Poland and Sweden. They choose the cheapest solutions.
But for the tourists, it's really a thumbs up!
Yummy for Zurek:-)

Totally agree! This was needed! The ferry is used, but relatively new, so this is really a step up!

How nice! We have previously travelled from Karlskrona, but this could be an alternative!

We've found this to be a smooth route, and with a more modern ferry, it's also more pleasant!

Unfortunately, ferry connections from the east coast are lost due to distance. Otherwise, the idea of a 66-hour cruise sounds very good.
We will have to go to Karlskrona to catch a ferry to Poland.

Yes, I understand! It depends on where you live if it's convenient of course!

Really good with a "new/used" ferry. Much needed! But I am still hesitant. But on the other hand, we do not take a car from Sweden so then it matters less to us. But for you sim do it, it can definitely be a lift.

Helena says:
If you take your car with you, it's easy, we think! But there are of course many different ways of travelling.

The owners agree with you about visiting Poland and the cities you mention, won't forget my trip last summer.
Ferries are mostly a necessary evil that owners have to go through when going down to the continent. Getting better ferries, especially since you have a few more hours than I do, must be a good thing.

Glad that you also liked Poland and these nice cities! This ferry journey is quite long, so it feels good with a new ferry! 🙂

Now it became a little more interesting to take the sea route to Poland. I usually take a boat to Tallinn and Riga but fly to Poland. Now maybe I should change some future work trips.

This new ferry definitely makes travelling to Poland by ferry easier and more pleasant. It takes quite a few hours, so if you're short of time you might prefer to fly. But you sleep on the boat, so it's quite comfortable that way.
