Wild vertebrates decline dramatically
The WWF Living Planet Report 2018 shows that wild vertebrate populations have declined by 60 per cent since 1970. At this rate, two-thirds of the world's mammal, fish, bird, amphibian and reptile populations are at risk of disappearing in just a few years. Few are aware of the threats to wildlife and nature, and a new Sifo survey commissioned by WWF shows that 7 out of 10 Swedes underestimate the loss of biodiversity.
Hurtigruten bans all single-use plastics
Norwegian shipping company Hurtigruten is banning all single-use plastics on its ships to protect the environment. They are the first company in the country to remove all unnecessary single-use plastics from their ships, from plastic bags and cutlery to disposable packaging and straws. In practical terms, this means an annual reduction of several tonnes of plastic on Hurtigruten's ships.

Johnny Friskilä says:
I just hope Hurtigrutten replaces the disposable plastic with something that makes sense. Often you can look blindly at one thing because it is bad, and then replace it with something that is even worse for the environment. But I'm sure they have a plan! Fun with the direct line Gothenburg - Moscow! Too bad about the invertebrates.

I guess I assumed that they would replace it with something better. I don't know, but I certainly hope so!

Mr Steve says:
Commendable initiative by Hurtigruten.
If animals continue to disappear at the current rate, we humans should also be in pretty bad shape.

Unfortunately, it feels like we are also in a bit of a rut, at least in a longer perspective.

I had a good laugh when I read the results of what's most important on holiday. Four out of five things were "computer-related". Luckily the family at least took second place. But I guess the family agrees with points 1, 3, 4 and 5;-)
05 November 2018 - 21:34
Helena says:
Haha, well you have to hope that the whole family agrees! 😉

Marina says:
It's so scary with all the animal species that are disappearing, I just hope it's not too late to start doing something about it. It's also a bit scary to see what we can't do without on holiday...(and no, unfortunately I'm no exception, my mobile phone is included!).
05 November 2018 - 21:40
Helena says:
Isn't it scary! So terrible that we humans can't manage our planet. Of course we hope that something can be done, but it requires the whole world to be involved!

Lena - good for the soul says:
Go Hurtigrutten! Several tonnes reduction! Well done!
