Today we have four great restaurants in Brussels, Belgium. We had really good food throughout the weekend in Belgium, both in fancier and simpler places. Do you have any more tips for restaurants in Brussels, or any experiences with Belgian food?

Good restaurants in Brussels
Belgians know how to eat, and there are plenty of good restaurants in Brussels. Moules frites - mussels with chips - are a popular dish in Belgium, as are various types of fried croquettes.
We haven't tasted the national dish waterzooi (chicken or fish with shredded vegetables in broth sauce) yet, while we tried the classic Belgian meat stew in the Mechelen Otherwise, creativity is rife and there are plenty of restaurants to choose from, whether you prefer meat, fish or vegetarian.
1st Pop-up Sablon
At the Place du Grand Sablon is the cosy bar and restaurant Popup Sablon. On the ground floor is a relaxed bar, and upstairs is the restaurant area, where we had lunch one day. Here we got to choose dishes from a digital menu on a toad. For Peter it was lamb with potato croquettes, while I (Helena) chose salmon with spinach, lightly cooked vegetables, duchesse potatoes and sauce. Tasty and nice!
- Address: Place du Grand Sablon 15-16
- Prices: Main courses €13-30 (2018)
- Web page: popupsablon.be
2. resto Henri
If you like good food, we recommend Resto Henri in the centre of Brussels. The seating is relatively simple, surrounded by tiled walls, and the atmosphere is pleasant and relaxed. We started the meal by sharing some mussels and some mushroom croquettes. For the main course we chose seabass and for dessert we shared a crème brûlée with chocolate and chestnuts.
- Address: Vlaamsesteenweg 113
- Prices: Main courses 18-46 euros (2018)
- Web page: restohenri.be
3rd Café Europa
Café Europa is a great place to visit if you're in Brussels' 'Europe area'. Located in the same building as the House of European History, a visit to the restaurant can be combined with a visit to the museum. We had lunch here one day. For Peter it was vegetarian risotto on some kind of grain, and I (Helena) chose fish with baked root vegetables and pumpkin. Good and nice!
- Address: Rue Belliard 135
- Prices: Main courses €17 (2018)
- Web page: cafe-europa-brussels.be
4. Victor Bozar Café
The Victor Bozar Café is located in the centre of Brussels, but on a street where not many tourists go. Instead, the more Belgians come here, the better! These neighbourhoods are also full of art, music and chocolate. The café is modern and bright, and you can just as easily come here for a coffee and a pastry as for a proper dinner. We each chose a "soup of the day" for starters and salmon tartare with bearnaise sauce and straw potatoes.
- Address: Rue Ravenstein 23
- Prices: Main courses €16-25 (2018)
- Web page: victorbozarcafe.be
Bonus: Pistol
The fast food restaurant Pistolet is included as a "bonus" because it is a fast food restaurant, and because we are not quite sure what we think. The place is relaxed and offers a nice concept with simple small dishes, such as soups, salads and sandwiches. We each ordered a soup and a sandwich (cordon bleu and smoked salmon respectively).
Unfortunately, the staff forgot our order, so it was not "fast food" for us, but rather "slow". Maybe they had a bad day? The cordon bleu sandwich was not great, but the salmon sandwich was great.
- Address: Joseph Stevensstraat 24
- Prices: Dishes 4.80 - 9.30 euros (2018)
- Web page: pistolet-original.be
More goodies in Brussels
If you like food and you're in Brussels, you should of course also try out Belgian waffles, and Belgian beer at one of the many cool places in the city. bars in Brussels. It's also a good time to shop for chocolate. Authentic Belgian chocolate can be found in the Neuhaus and Mary shops, both located in the Galerie de la Reine/Koninginnegalerij.

Ama de casa says:
Wow, so much good stuff! When I hear "Belgian food" I immediately think of Moules frites, beer and chocolate. The last two may not be classed as "food" but if you get enough, you'll be stuffed anyway 😀.
Have a nice third advent!

Ditte says:
I have only positive experiences with Belgian food and have mostly tried it in Brussels, Antwerp and Liège. Had for several years an EU cooperation with, among others, Beligen and then there were trips there a couple of times a year. The beer, was also highly appreciated. Trapistölen a little extra.
However, I don't remember the names of the restaurants, but the fact remains that the food was good.

Helena says:
Glad you have good experiences with Belgian food Ditte! We have too. We have had good food almost everywhere in Belgium, and sometimes it has even been fantastic 🙂 Exciting with the EU co-operation!

16 December 2018 - 20:04
Helena says:
We talked to some Belgians in a restaurant and they thought that we Swedes perceived everything as cheap, but that's not really the case. We felt the prices were similar to those in Sweden, even though beer, for example, is cheaper.
