Electric scooters banned in Madrid
Have you seen the Voi electric scooters that have taken over Stockholm and other European cities this autumn? According to DiGITAL magazine, the Madrid government is now rejecting companies that want to rent out electric scooters, throwing Sweden's Voi and two other companies out of the market.
The city argues that the companies have not done enough to inform customers about how the bikes can be used. Operators have the option to reapply for a licence "at any time", Madrid City Hall said in a statement.
Ireland is full of festivals this winter
In Ireland, you can experience at least five exciting festivals this winter:
- YuleFest in Kilkenny (23 November - 6 January) offers music, food, crafts and entertainment.

- Tradfest 2019 Dublin (23-27 January) is Ireland's largest traditional music festival.
- Glow - Christmas celebrations in Cork (30 November - 6 January) is a folk festival with lights, sounds, attractions and food stalls.

Endangered eel on sale for Christmas
The eel is a critically endangered species, yet two out of three fish shops sell eels at Christmas, according to a new survey by WWF. It is often argued that eels are farmed and therefore not threatened. WWF argues that this argument does not hold water. "Farmed eels are young wild-caught eels that are held in captivity and fed to grow large. It comes from the same endangered stock. No eel can reproduce in captivity", says Karin Glaumann. These sell eels according to the study:
- Fish shops: 67 per cent
- Restaurants: 12 per cent
- Food chains: 8 per cent
- Shipping companies: None
- Wholesalers/dryers: None

Ama de casa says:
The electric scooters are really increasing rapidly here. I can't believe they dare to drive around on the bumpy streets here in full acid on the small, small wheels... They are not heard so much when they come running either...
There are some models with larger wheels and they look at least SOMEwhat less deadly.
Yes, I am. I am a sissy. Haha!
Have a great start to the week!

I can definitely live without eels, but oh, how I was hungry for Ireland. Now, unfortunately, there are not unlimited holidays to take out, so Ireland will probably have to wait a while, the spring winter is kind of already done, but then we'll see....

Ireland certainly knows how to celebrate and brighten up the cold winter months.
Voi are everywhere here in Stockholm. I have read that Stockholm City is also considering banning them because they litter the streets and cause problems for the disabled. I am inclined to agree. In the South, it actually looks too damn bad.

Emma, sun like sun? says:
The electric scooter is a fantastic tool! Hopefully many people will use it instead of the car. But it's all about people's attitude ... Saw one yesterday that looked a little wobbly, it went a little slow and I thought the battery might be dead. But when, he went there and looked at the mobile phone and tried to light a cigarette at the same time. I should add that he rode on the narrow and bendy pavement next to a busy street. It felt like he had a little zero knowledge ...
I have a scooter without electricity. But I am bad at using it ...
