This weekend there is a sick bay in the houseboat FREEDOM and not many knots are made. We have suffered some really bad stomach problems and are mostly hanging out on the sofa ... or in the bathroom.
Sickness
For me (Helena) it started on Thursday evening, and for Peter it started on Friday morning. We'll spare you the details, but you probably know what it's like when you can't eat or drink, and it comes out both ends. In addition, we have had very pain in the stomach.
Could it be some germ that we brought home from Sri Lanka? Yes, it is possible, but in that case it took a long time before it broke out. Maybe it could also be the mince pie we ate on Thursday evening? Who knows ...
A few metres outside the door
The weather was really nice yesterday, and we made an effort to get outside. The idea was "fresh air will do us good", and so we thought we would run some errands. We ended up turning around when we got to shore ... then we were so exhausted, haha.
What do we do?
First of all, we do nothing, which means that it is very messy here at home ... I (Helena) could still work a little at the computer yesterday, but otherwise we have mostly been lying on the bed or the sofa. We have made up our sofa bed on the upper floor so that we can both watch TV in a lying position ... We have started watching an Israeli TV series called "When Heroes Fly" which is shown on Netflix. Exciting and a bit different!
Hope you feel better!

But it's so sad. I write as Dessan, you have to go to the doctor if it does not stop, so you do not get an Asian bacillus.
Big hugs from us

Helena says:
Well, if it doesn't stop, we have to do it! But we are usually hopeful and believe that it will pass 😉.

TravelAnna says:
What a pain in the arse! Poor you. Try to look into it if you can.
I have had similar with severe stomach pains and it turned out to be bacteria from bad chicken. It broke out a few days after a trip to Cyprus (many years ago) but the chicken was served on the plane. Several others got sick as well.
Sending big hugs!
13 January 2019 - 11:31
Helena says:
Thank you Anna! It feels like we are a little better tonight! Check tomorrow if it does not improve!

Emma, sun like sun? says:
It is in these situations that I miss Swedish food: blueberry soup, rosehip soup, Samarin ... I went on a trip at the end of the summer and luckily had some of what my mum and dad had brought with them.
Fluids, salt and sweets are what you need, but you already know that. And if it doesn't last long, you'll have to go to the doctor. But you know that too.
Of course fresh air is good, but right now you have no energy in your body and it takes time to get it back. One piece at a time! Sit in the sun (if it's shining, that is) and read, relax!
I also saw that there was a new series and was surprised when it said it was Israeli (haven't seen any episode, just adverts). Liked the title, that's what made me look a little extra. Maybe I should watch an episode just because.
Get well soon!
13 January 2019 - 11:31
Helena says:
Blueberry soup I thought I would go shopping today ... I do not usually use Samarin, but we have been diligent users of fluid replacement 🙂 Thanks for your tips! It's probably just as you say, you have to take a little at a time 😉 The TV series is really good by the way, so feel free to watch it! 🙂

Anette says:
Ordinary food poisoning usually starts about 4 hours after ingesting bad food and usually passes quickly.
If this continues, you will have to take a test.
My husband contracted salmonella many years ago after travelling to Bali. He was hospitalised with a drip for several days.
In fact, in our 5 years as Thais, we haven't had a single stomach bug.
Get well soon?
13 January 2019 - 12:10
Helena says:
Thank you for writing Anette! I am starting to get better, but for Peter it is stubbornly stuck. We'll probably wait a little longer, but if it doesn't go away, we'll have to go for a test! I'm glad you didn't get a stomach bug in Thailand, you might get used to it!

Maybe winter vomiting has reached 08a country?
In any case, stomach flu is not something to get excited about...
get well soon and remember that you have to drink a lot... even though you don't want to put anything in your body, it's actually the best way to get energised, so drink, drink...
13 January 2019 - 12:30
Helena says:
Thank you very much! Yes, the fluid replacement is hot here at home 🙂 .
13 January 2019 - 13:04

Bad! Maybe it's campylobacter and they can strike after a week or so. (Have had them and it was miserable. But VC came home and picked up samples because I could not get there)
Wishing you a good and speedy recovery.

Helena says:
Who knows? It is very difficult to get an appointment at our VC, but we will call if it doesn't get better. Thanks for the tips!

Hu, stomach flu is probably the worst condition you can suffer from. Water, rest and saline solution is the only thing to recommend.
And it's always a bit tricky when you've been abroad...
13 January 2019 - 17:22
BP says:
Sounds bad, especially since you had to "sacrifice" the weekend. Tomorrow you are certainly healthy again and can go to work. Heavenly unfair, I can think;-)
Stomach flu is much worse than a cold, I think. You are totally knocked out and feel bad.
I feel sorry for you! Get well soon!

Oh dear!... Poor thing! My son has just had some weird stomach flu with a huge stomach ache and sick for four days before it went away. Maybe this year's stomach flu that seems so? If you also have jet lag, you are probably more easily affected as for you. It was a shame! Hope it goes over quickly! Hugs!
