Recently, a new travel list has become a hot topic among Sweden's travel bloggers, and among other bloggers too: Backpacker or suitcaser - who are you when you travel? We've sucked on the caramel, but now we're in!

Who are you when travelling? - a list of traveller types
Annika, with the blog Travel Friday, came up with this list after her son asked if she could scuba dive, and she tried to explain that she doesn't because she's "the kind of person who sneaks into the water from the swimming ladder". We thank Annika for this fun list, and will keep you posted with our answers. Now you can get to know us a little better as travellers!
1. Diving in from the poolside or sneaking in from the bathing ladder?
Helena: There is no doubt that sneaking in from the bathing ladder is the way to go. In order to take a bath, the water must be completely still and there must be no children around (they can splash water). I know, the bathing pot of bathing pots!
Peter: There may be an occasional dive or two!
2. backpacker or suitcaser?
FREEDOMtravel: A "suitcaser", according to Annika, is a person who travels with "clothes neatly packed in suitcases on wheels and has all accommodation and excursions booked in advance". We recently travelled around the entire Sri Lanka each with a cabin bag and a small backpack, without having any accommodation or excursions booked in advance. Hmm, are we still backpackers ... despite the cabin bag?
3. Pack the night before or pack well in advance?
FREEDOMtravel: The night before ... that's pretty good time, isn't it?
4. Sneak into the train station/airport right on time or be there 1 hour before the deadline?
Helena: Preferably in good time - after all, the worst thing is to be stuck in a slow-moving queue at the security checkpoint and have to scramble because the plane takes off in 15 minutes.
Peter: Hanging around an airport is boring, so why be there earlier than necessary? The only bad thing about being late is that Helena gets stressed ...
5. Package holidays or DIY?
FREEDOMtravel: Sew together yourself of course, that's half the fun! The only "package tours" we go on are single press trips, which is usually very fun but also very "pressured" in terms of time. That's why it's called press trips maybe? Well, sewing together yourself is fun!
6. foodie or nature junkie?
FREEDOMtravel: How can you ask these two questions received each other? We love good food and think local flavours are a great part of a trip. But on the other hand, what is a trip without beautiful beaches, dramatic mountains or wildlife? No, there is no answer to this...
7. Skiing holidays or sandy beaches?
FREEDOMtravel: We like skiing holidays, but we still get to answer sandy beaches on this one. What's better than a lovely beach and a crystal clear blue sea?
8. Recurring favourites or new destinations every time?
FREEDOMtravel: New destinations every time of course! We like to return to the same country again and again, but we want to explore and find new favourites. The curiosity for new places is simply too great!
9. Road trip or train journey?
FREEDOMtravel: After all, travelling by train is wonderful, and travelling with the Trans-Siberian railway is one of our best trips ever. But no, nothing beats the motorhome! Every time we get into the motorhome, we feel that this is it. absolute best way of travelling. The sense of freedom is huge. You can roll wherever you want, and you have the kitchen and the bed with you... Fantastic!
10. System camera or mobile phone camera?
Helena: System camera! All attempts to take photos with your mobile phone camera end up blurry and dark, so the system camera has to keep up.
Peter: The mobile phone camera is perfect for filming.
11. Morning person or evening person?
Helena: Morning person! At 06:00 in the morning, efficiency is at its peak and blog post after blog post is produced... When Peter finally wakes up, his eyes glazed over, he doesn't understand any of the ideas thrown at him.
Peter: Evening person! The last few hours of the evening are spent working at the computer at full speed and just before bedtime, constructive ideas come flooding in. Unfortunately, the other half of FREEDOMtravel is not really receptive as ...
12. Spain or Italy?
FREEDOMtravel: Most people seem to be answering Italy to this question, so let's equalise the distribution a bit and say Spain. We like the lovely Spanish cities like Seville, Tarragona and Valencia. Also, we have to say (although many will be upset now) that we think the food is better in Spain than in Italy.
13. Soft drinks or wine?
FREEDOMtravel: The original question was "soda or alcohol?" but that sounds like asking if you like "apples or protein", so we changed the question to "soda or wine". We don't like soda, but we like wine, so the answer is simple. Wine offers so many different flavours, not least in combination with different dishes, of course.
14. Real books or audio books?
FREEDOMtravel: We tried the audiobook once, but we couldn't get into it ... so "real" is the answer, at least for now.
What type of traveller are you? Feel free to answer in a comment, or write the answers in a separate post if you have a blog... if you haven't done so already.

This fun list has been seen here and there - it's nice to see your answers too.
A thought strikes me... For you, ONE computer would be enough. Helena uses it in the morning and Peter in the evening. On the day in between, you can socialise. 😉 😀
Have a great Saturday!

Helena says:
Haha, yes it might be a smart solution! 😉 Both economically and less sedentary! (Although some risk of discord when both want the computer there in the middle of the time maybe;)) Nice weekend!

We have actually also started to file on this list because we currently have some real ox weeks and do not have time for any major excursions. Fun to read some different opinions and as usual be able to note that it is nice that we are different.
(Dismantling a job you've had for over 20 years, teaching some tasks and handing over others, and the current incredible workload means that days and weekends are disappearing at a rapid pace).

Helena says:
Understand that you are busy! Fun if you hang on the list! 🙂

It's nice to read your list which is a bit of a "both/and" because your answers are a bit different. When I answered the questions in the list, I noticed how my travelling has changed a lot in the last 10 years. Nowadays it is quite comfortable travel, (comfort, "good" flight times, short waiting times if a change is to be made and preferably a lounge at the airport).
And now I want to take my time. I don't want to rush. In the past it did not matter because then I collected more countries and places. I have completely stopped that... But of course there will be new "hunting grounds" so now on the long trip in February. Very new.

Helena says:
Interesting to reflect on how travelling changes over time! Nice to have plenty of time, but still be able to make exciting trips! 🙂

No surprises here;-) Surprisingly many of your answers even agree with mine;-) Also, I completely agree with you - the food in Spain is much better than in Italy. In fact, the worst pizzas I've eaten have been in Venice.
02 February 2019 - 19:28
Helena says:
Haha no, if you have been following us for a while, there were probably no surprises 😉 And wonderful with support for the Spanish and Italian food! (Some people almost get upset if you do not love Italian food, have not really understood why;))

I would say backpaker but I like both equally, it's all about all the stuff you have to do!!!!

Doesn't matter, I like both options!!!!

We are in Spain right now... (Canary Islands) so it has to be Spain.
13. SOFT DRINKS OR WINE?
Soft drinks are high in sugar soooo ....... Will probably be wine then?
14. REAL BOOKS OR AUDIO BOOKS?
An audiobook is something you can have in the background, so that's probably what it will be.

Fun to read? You are night and day on some fronts I notice? Maybe you are flashpackers? Especially if you lived reasonably posh during the Sri Lanka trip?

Haha, maybe? But fancy? Well, we lived very well, but rather cheap than fancy 😉.

BACKPACKER OR 'SUITCASER'?
I would call you a modern day backpacker. My sister is travelling around the world with this type of cabin bag as you can see in the picture ( It is a cabin bag with the possibility to pull out the handles and wheels if necessary. ( See model https://www.xn--vskan-gra.com/resvaskor/kabinvaska
Being able to use your cabin bag according to the prevailing conditions is not to be underestimated. When weights make it difficult to roll your cabin bag, you throw it on your back and carry it like a traditional backpacker's backpack, but as often, she starts from the argument regarding her cabin bag which is, why carry when you can roll. Note that my sister was born in 61 so being able to roll her cabin bag when her back does not want to move is perhaps not so strange. Thanks for a great blog Regards Lisa
