Mondays mean travel news here at FREEDOMtravel. Today we can tell you about Dalarna's first 5-star campsite, about booking records on a Mediterranean island that we really like and about what foreign tourists like to shop for during their Swedish holiday. We've been hanging out at the World Cup in Åre this weekend, and we'll tell you more about that soon!

Orsa camping gets 5 stars
Orsa Camping will be Dalarna's first 5-star campsite. The campsite is located by Lake Orsa and offers pitches for camping vehicles, cabins, a kilometre-long sandy beach and a pool area. Everyone who is a member of SCR Svensk Camping can be classified, which means that the range and standard is measured in five areas: environment, hygiene, service, activities and events.
What foreign tourists want to shop in Sweden
On 7 February, the Swedish Trade Federation, the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth and Visit Sweden released the report "Foreign shopping travellers in Sweden - an insight report". The report is based on data from reference reports, in-depth interviews and Visit Sweden's 2018 target group analysis. - Germans: 1) souvenirs, 2) locally produced food, 3) groceries
- Dutch: 1) clothing and footwear, 2) souvenirs, 3) foodstuffs.
- French: 1) souvenirs, 2) clothes and shoes, 3) locally produced food and drink.

Record bookings in Malta
Last year, they visited Malta of 2.6 million tourists, reports the Malta Tourism Authority. This is a new visitor record and represents an increase of 14.3 per cent compared to 2017. A total of 128 320 visits were made by Swedes, Norwegians, Danes and Finns, which is the second highest number of visits ever. One of the reasons for the increase is that more and more travellers are choosing to visit Malta outside the high season.
Summer's favourite travel destinations
This summer's holiday destinations are dominated by destinations around the Mediterranean, according to a press release from Ticket. Despite a slight decrease in booking pressure, Mallorca is at the top as the most popular destination. The following destinations are in the top 5 list:
- Mallorca, Spain
- Crete, Greece
- Split, Croatia
- Alanya, Turkey
- Rhodes, Greece

It seems that more people than us are longing for Malta, the island that is quite high on our wish list.
On the list of summer travel destinations, we have visited Crete a few times, while the others do not attract anything special. As usual; luckily we are different...

It's nice that Malta attracts tourists, many of whom may go for a long weekend in spring and autumn.
It's been a long time since I've been to Mallorca, maybe it's time for another visit?
I have also visited Crete and Rhodes, Rhodes for the 1st time last summer, but probably won't go back. Turkey does not attract, but Croatia!
Hugs!

Interesting that the tourists from the countries you list are all shopping for groceries/food. I'm not really surprised as, for example, different varieties of gravlax and rimmed salmon are delicacies in most countries. In addition, many tourists probably have self-catering or picnics.
I'm not surprised by Malta's off-season tourist records either. Malta is a wonderful island that offers everything and more. However, I would not want to be there during the summer. Too hot. Spring or autumn is perfect there.
It will be fun to read about your weekend in Åre.

I also reacted a bit to that, although I can understand it! There are a lot of Swedish exotic delicacies (also e.g. cloudberries, reindeer meat ...), and food is a bit fun to buy because it is something you actually "use". And as I said, some tourists have self-catering (Germans and Dutch people camp a lot among others).
