Then it was Friday again! We are enjoying the lovely winter and working hard, both with the blog and other things. This is of course positive, but the most positive thing this week is that Peter has quit smoking. What has been the best part of your week?
Glorious winter!
We've said it before, but we have to say it again: Great winter! The worst thing in the world is two degrees above zero, darkness and moisture penetrating the skin. Everything (well) below 0 on the other hand - lovely! Our neighbourhood is beautifully embedded in white snow and the ducks are swimming around us in the ice-free waters of the marina.
But when we look out from the marina towards Hornsberg beach, the ice is thick. People are travelling on long-distance skates or walking. It's real winter, plain and simple!
Hard work and cosy meals
We are working hard to improve all our country pages on the blog ("Destinations" in the menu). We previously asked your readers for feedback and we received a lot of good feedback. For example, many people thought that we should replace the "hiker" icon under "Why travel to ....?" and we have slowly started to replace it with a "hiker" icon. suitcase. Better? It will take some time though, because all work on a blog takes time ...
We're also working on our pages about campsites and pitches ("Pitches" in the menu), so we hope they'll be much better too! We don't have much time for fun and entertainment, but we do have the occasional good meal. This week it was among other things pasta with cockles, yummy!
Stop smoking
The most positive thing this week? Peter has quit smoking ... after 45 (!) years. He has decided that his body probably wants some respite from tobacco now. It's going really well, but of course it's a tough adjustment. To make it easier, he has bought nicotine patches, but also an e-cigarette, so he can still "puff" according to his usual pattern.
The e-cigarette is loaded with menthol-flavoured smoke, for example, but without nicotine and other toxic substances. It is therefore possible to load this type of e-cigarette with nicotine if you want to, but that is not the intention in this particular case. The only question is whether to choose banana flavour or milkshake flavour ...? (The whiskey flavour was gone...) Happy Friday!

Friday again and where did this week go?
The most positive thing for us is that we took care of our "guest room" (junk room) on my day off on Monday. Now wallpaper from Svenskt Tenn is waiting to be put up this weekend and hopefully we will have a new room on Sunday!
Go Peter! Great to quit smoking after so many years!

Great Peter, I know that you are very goal orientated, so this will probably go well! 🙂

Yep, he's goal orientated! 🙂

Solan says:
Good and congratulations Peter...a good decision indeed.
Not easy, I chewed Nicorette until I became addicted to them! But it worked in the end.
Don't think smoking cessation, think smoke-free instead. Freedom to not be dependent on cigarettes. ⭐⭐
01 February 2019 - 7:50
Helena says:
Being free from cigarettes is freedom! Peter is working hard on it! 🙂

Quiet week here, not much happening to write about!
But so good to stop smoking after so many years, Go Peter!
Have a nice weekend on your.....

Right? Thanks for the cheers, and have a great weekend!

Emma, sun like sun? says:
My husband has an e-cig and when he tried one of those flavoured ones (banana, coconut?) he thought it was disgusting and it ruined the whole vape so he went back to cigarettes for a while. But now it's exclusively the e-cig (he bought a new one) and he stays away from the slimy ones, goes for his regular Chest (which probably has to do with chestnut, i.e. a light chestnut flavour). My mission is to get him away from it as well for as long as possible. 🙂
But great, Peter!
My favourite was of course meeting Lena in Wales!
01 February 2019 - 9:06
Helena says:
Peter also bought a flavour that he did not like at all, and then it became much more difficult! Have had to buy new ones and will look for another bigger and better store! What fun that you met Lena this week! 🙂

Ama de casa says:
Great job by Peter! Great praise!
I gave up "real" cigarettes almost three years ago. A hospitalisation with pneumonia and bronchitis was the turning point.
I puff since then, but with nicotine. Just waiting for the next pneumonia... Haha!
There are many advantages to puffing in addition to the fact that it is (hopefully) not as dangerous. For example, it does not smell so you disturb the surroundings and also there are no cigarette butts that you sometimes do not know where to dispose of 🙂.
Since I started with the puff, I have not taken a single puff on a regular cigarette. Although in the beginning I became something of a sniffer... Oh how good it can smell of cigarette smoke when you just quit. Strange, but true 🙂
Good luck, Peter! With your stubbornness, you'll do just fine 😀.
01 February 2019 - 9:53
Helena says:
Peter has chosen to puff completely without nicotine because that is what he wants to get rid of, but I have understood that you can have nicotine as well. Thanks for the cheers! And nice weekend! 🙂

Congratulations and cheers Peter!!! Absolutely right!
It's nice and bright with this white! And nice air! Love it!
Best of the week ... Cleaned out a lot of paper and unnecessary in our large home. Now I also know where I have all the craft supplies! Have a nice weekend!

Goatfish says:
Well done, Peter!
E-cigarettes are a better option. However, the best option is to give up all nicotine 😀 After six weeks without it, the body has got used to it really well. Same with candy cravings.
Oh, don't listen to me, I'm just telling you how I did it once upon a time.
Your winter pictures are amazing. But I don't enjoy the snow in reality 😀 it's a transition time.
Have a cosy Friday now, wishing the boring lady 😀.
01 February 2019 - 12:44
Helena says:
Peter smokes the e-cigarettes completely without nicotine. (You can smoke them with nicotine too if you want, but Peter smokes without...) The only nicotine he has taken now is nicotine patches, let's see what he does with them. Good that you succeeded!!! Wish you a nice weekend!

Lena - good for the soul says:
Yes, it's so nice to have a real winter. That's the way it should be. Right now it's snowing sideways outside the window.
Wow 45 years! I think it is wise to use assistive devices. A stopped quite abruptly after 30 years, without aids. It worked for a few months, until he thought it was a good idea to "just take one"... Now he is trying again by stepping down at a slow pace. Let's see if there will be a plaster as well in the future.
Hug Lena

Helena says:
Yes today it has really snowed on the slope !!! Hope that A succeeds with the de-escalation now then, it is important to find a way that works! Nice weekend!

Well done Peter for making up your mind. Because that's what you have to do.
Best part of the week? Many nice meetings and pleasantries with friends, walks on Mälaren's ice, various restaurant visits and that I sold pictures. I feel really proud. And more job enquiries. Fun to be "found".
Wishing you a great weekend.
01 February 2019 - 16:09
Helena says:
Yes, I think it's a lot about making a decision. About really wanting to. Otherwise it is probably difficult. What fun both with sold pictures and job requests! Congratulations!!!

Anta Snaque says:
Peter, what a wise decision! ? I have never smoked, but I have heard that the sense of smell and taste improves quite quickly. The body - and the wallet! - thank you very much! ? Travelling is better than tobacco. Good luck, I keep my fingers crossed for you!
My brother started smoking when he was 13 (in youthful ignorance) and quit about 60 years later (thanks to late acquired wisdom). I used to point out that he smoked away a Lamborghini.

Liked your shovelling picture. How nice to be able to just shovel or sweep the snow straight into the sea. At home, the owners are now building snow banks.
The best thing about my week is that I got to stand inside in decent heat with the power cord in.
Cheers to Peter, you can do it!
Have a nice weekend!

Kudos to Peter! Quitting smoking after 45 years requires great willpower. I sometimes wish I had the strength to quit smoking, but lack the motivation. So fantastic work by Peter!

Ruth in Virginia says:
Glad I never took up smoking. Maybe because it was
such strict rationing during WWII, when I was a teenager. But then
I mostly hung out with non-smokers and athletes. Not a single one of
My old mates smoked. My husband smoked a pipe, but the smoking...
consisted mostly of putting the tobacco in, tamping it down and then...
match after match - never got much smoke but it was grinding.
of the front teeth, so "in the old days" he had the "caps" put on. (we were
invited to two weddings and he thought he looked toothless when he smiled).
Male vanity! 🙂
Lovely winter pictures! We had -16C Thursday morning. Unusually cold
for us, but nothing like the centre of the US, thankfully.

Mr Steve says:
Well done Peter, you can do this. I started smoking when I was 18 and usually smoked a pack a day. I quit abruptly on my way to work one morning in my early 30s. Never had a puff after that morning. I even threw away the half-full packet of cigarettes I had in my pocket.

How wonderful that Peter decided to quit smoking...it was really good. 🙂 More fun to spend the money on other things instead. Keep your fingers crossed for him that it goes well all the way. Hugs to you

Good job with the smoke stop! Of course, it's wonderful in its own way with winter, but I'm starting to be satisfied with the amount of snow now....
