Monday means travel news at FREEDOMtravel, and of course we are, as usual, curious about your reflections! Are you curious about the different sun holidays? Would you consider travelling to Japan by train? Do you prefer an airline that automatically carbon offsets?

Different sun and bathing destinations this summer
Mallorca and Crete top the list of the summer's most popular destinations, according to Ticket Resor. At the same time, there are also other, more unknown destinations on the Mediterranean, which are up and coming. These resorts are attracting Swedish travellers this summer:
- Dhermi, Albania
- Alonissos, Greece
- Antiparos, Greece
- Parga, Greece
- Bodrum, Turkey
- Marmaris, Turkey
Now you can book a train journey to Japan
The travel company Världens resor is now launching a train journey that goes all the way to Japan. World Travel's offerings include previous train journeys through Europe and a train journey to Hong Kong. The new train journey to Japan is a 28-day experience on rails. The journey takes place on the Trans-Siberian railway, with stops in several Siberian cities. In Vladivostok, the journey continues by boat to South Korea, and then by train and boat again.
Airline BRA carbon offsets all journeys
The airline BRA carbon offsets all flights booked from 1 April at no extra cost. So you don't have to make any extra choices or pay any extra surcharges. Everything is automatically carbon offset.
Confusing information on the Blue Train
The Blue Train runs the Stockholm-Gothenburg route and offers an experience of "a bygone era", with a stress-free environment, restaurant and piano bar. A few days ago, Aftonbladet and Expressen reported that the company operating the Blue Train had been declared bankrupt. On the same day, SVT wrote that, according to the company's CEO, the company had paid its debts and that the case was closed. The Blue Train's own website states "Important info! Blå Tåget has not gone bankrupt and is operating its train services as usual. Welcome aboard!"
The ITB travel fair in Berlin has ended
On 6-10 March, the huge ITB travel fair took place in Berlin. Amongst others, 5000 journalists, 450 bloggers and very many visitors on site. We did not have the opportunity to get there, but you can read about the fair at the travel blogger Johnnybaijan.

Whoa. A train to Japan? I probably wouldn't have thought of that myself. But it is certainly a cool experience!

We've travelled on the Trans-Siberian to Beijing once, and it was awesome 🙂.

28-day train journey! Doesn't sound appealing at all,
I must say. Daughter and son took the train from
San Francisco to Washington - approximately 3 days.
Enjoyed the trip and were happy when it was over.
Nice to be with you in Iceland once again.
Enjoyed the beautiful views!

I guess you are not all 28 days on the train (do not know if I formulated myself fuzzy), but a lot of trains will of course certainly be, so you should probably like trains! 🙂 Glad you joined us in Iceland! There will be a little more 😉

Among the newcomers, I visited Marmaris almost 20 years ago and Parga a few years ago. We recommend Parga to anyone who wants a Mediterranean holiday without big hotel complexes and with lots of destinations around.
At the moment we are not keen on Turkey, however affordable it may be.
The Trans-Siberian Railway has always been an attraction, but whenever there is talk of a long journey, there are more desirable destinations.

Parga sounds nice! Trans-Siberian we did many years ago, exciting trip! 🙂

Ama de casa says:
Love travelling by train, but to Japan? No thanks. The Trans-Siberian has never appealed to me.
Although, I can imagine travelling by train to Japan if you start a little closer so the journey takes a maximum of 8 hours 😉.

We found the Trans-Siberian exciting, but it is a long train journey!

Bodrum and Marmaris are old favourites. Have been to Marmaris which I can highly recommend.
Japan is definitely one of my favourite destinations on the to do list, but not by train. I have heard so much bad about the Trans-Siberian railway from acquaintances who have travelled it that I also skip it;-)
BRA is good:-)

Maybe we can explore Bodrum and Marmaris at some point! Oh, have you heard bad things about the Trans-Siberian? We found it to be an exciting and fascinating journey 🙂 .

I now skip direct sun destinations but have visited all except Albania. Really liked Antiparos where I have been a few times. Nice to see the trend.
Japan is on our "to do list" for travelling but unfortunately we think the cost of this train journey is too high. Have checked. We will probably fly with Finnair and then visit parts of Japan through a cruise and then travel around on our own.
As far as climate compensation is concerned, I am doubtful because that in itself does not reduce emissions. But still good that BRA within Sweden does it.

Japan is on our wish list too! It is, among other things, the costs that have been an obstacle so far, but would love to get there on occasion!
