Happy Friday! This Friday we are dreaming of Rwanda. We have been to an event this week that offered lots of travel inspiration to the small African country Rwanda, so now we have a new country on our bucket list!
Table of contents
Event at the Sheraton Hotel
On Wednesday afternoon and evening, we were invited to an event at the Sheraton Hotel at Tegelbacken, organised by the Rwandan Tourism Organisation. The Rwandan ambassador gave a presentation, followed by traditional dancing, a film screening, food and mingling.
They even managed to get the audience on the dance floor to try out the Rwandan dance steps. Well, at least some ...
The small country of Rwanda
Rwanda is a small African country bordered by Burundi, Congo-Kinshasa, Tanzania and Uganda. When you hear the name Rwanda, it's easy to think of the horrific genocide that took place in 1994. From the presentation we listened to, we realised that very much has happened since then.
A peaceful and secure country
Today, we understand that Rwanda is a peaceful and safe country. The economy and standard of living has improved greatly for the population, and the number of tourists visiting the country is constantly increasing. In 2017, the World Economic Forum ranked the country as the safest country in Africa, and the 9th safest country in the world. The road network is said to be one of the best in Africa and the capital Kigali is considered one of the cleanest cities on the continent.
Rwanda's "jewel" is the fascinating mountain gorillas, but there is also much more to see and experience in the form of national parks, wildlife, lakes, cycling, culture and traditions. We can simply say that Rwanda emerged as an interesting destination on our bucket list!
Mingle
At an event there is of course mingle! Among other things, we met our travel blog colleague Daniela from the fine blog Discovering the Planetand her friend Malin. Daniela lives in Skåne and we have not met for a long time, so it was really fun. This spring we are actually going on two trips together, so you might see more of Daniela here on the blog!
We also took the opportunity to mingle with Rwanda's ambassador to Sweden,
Christine Nkulikiyinka. It was a very nice and interesting Wednesday evening that offered lots of travel inspiration and dreams about Rwanda.

I have never been to Rwanda but know a couple who have been there, and they really liked it! But I think I have other white spots on my world map that I would like to tick off first.
The best thing this week has been many nice meetings and mainly that I FINALLY got to eat Parisians again 😀.
Have a happy Friday!

Of course, we would like to see mountain gorillas, but if it's another African trip, Namibia is probably the best place to visit. There are so many wonderful countries south of the Sahara!

There are certainly several interesting countries in Africa! We have also seen enticing reports from Namibia!

Africa is close to my heart. I have been to Rwanda, among other places, and I understand that you are keen to travel there. Then it felt safe to be in Rwanda unlike Burundi where there was a city coup the day after we left the capital and Congo which is the craziest country I have ever been to. I have been lucky enough to see mountain gorillas ? but not in Rwanda but in Zaire, now Congo. / Magdalena

I am delighted that Rwanda has recovered from the horrors of the 1990s. I definitely think that the country should be given a chance to establish itself as one of Africa's attractive travel destinations. In addition, it is always fun to get to know new destinations that you do not think of in the first place.

Oh, you were there? I had to decline, as it coincided with Christopher's operation.
Having just been to neighbouring Uganda, I can imagine how beautiful and lovely it is in Rwanda.
