Iceland, Ireland and both old and new friends

This has been a week of many special encounters! I (Helena) have met with two old friends, one of whom I got to know at a very special way. We've also had time for a 30th anniversary celebration and an Irish reunion. The worst thing has been that I've had a bad cold and the best thing has been... everything else. What has been the best part of your week?

Meeting a friend in Iceland

In Reykjavik we met an old friend of mine (Helena), whom I haven't seen for about 17 years. I originally got to know her (listen!) through her scribbling in Icelandic on a toilet door in a pub in Stockholm.

I replied to the doodle, and a few weeks later she replied with an email address... Yes, this is true! Now we hadn't seen each other for a long time, so it was great to see her with her now 15-year-old son. I forgot to take a photo, but still! Happy Friday!

30th anniversary celebrations

When we came home from Iceland, it was immediately time to celebrate Alexandra, Peter's granddaughter, who just turned 30. We missed the real celebration, and instead they invited us to "a little" pick food. Fantastically luxurious, good and nice!

After dinner we had fun scratching countries on a so-called "scratch map". When you scratch the countries in peace and quiet, and talk about the places you have visited, it is really fun! Thank you Robin and Alexandra for a great evening!

Visit of a childhood friend

Later in the week I (Helena) was visited by my childhood friend Johanna. We became friends in Lund when I was 4 years old and she was 3, and have been friends ever since. Now we don't meet very often (Johanna lives in Skåne), but when we do meet, it feels just like normal. Johanna, who is a researcher in limnology (the study of freshwater) was going to a meeting in Stockholm and took the opportunity to spend an evening with us in the houseboat. Sooo fun and nice!

Ireland meeting

On Thursday afternoon and evening, the Irish Tourist Board organised a gathering in an Irish pub to celebrate the upcoming season 8 of the TV series Game of Thrones. A large part of the TV series was filmed on the island, and we have previously written about it. 10 Game of Thrones filming locations in Northern Ireland.

Now we got to meet Flip Robinson (top photo), who started his career tearing tickets at the rope bridge. Carrick-a-Redeand then went on to star as a stand-in for 'Hodor' in Game of Thrones. Now he runs his own guided tours, Giant Tours Irelandin the footsteps of the popular TV series. Talk about a cool career change!
