Football holidays to Barcelona
Barcelona is perhaps the football city of football cities. It is home to FC Barcelona and the enormous Camp Nou football stadium. Barcelona also happens to be an exceptionally pleasant city, with a historic old city centre, lively pedestrian streets, fascinating architecture and a busy nightlife. In this Spanish city, you'll even find a sandy beach in the centre of town!
If you want to book football holidays to Barcelona you can do so via Fotbollsresan.se, which helps you book match tickets and hotels, and even flights if you wish. Of course, there are also football trips to other destinations, such as London, Milan and Rome.
Camp Nou football stadium
Football stadium Camp Nou is owned by FC Barcelona and is the largest football stadium in Europe, measuring 250 by 220 metres and 48 metres high. The stands can hold 99,354 spectators, and now they are expanding (again!), so soon the enormous stadium will hold 105,000 spectators.
Combine more!
If you go on a football trip to Barcelona, you should of course take the opportunity to see a little more of the city at the same time. Barcelona is a lovely city with a great atmosphere and several interesting sights. Combining the trip is also perfect if not all in your party are equally passionate about football. Who says no to a weekend in Barcelona?
Things to do in Barcelona - Top 5
During a football trip to Barcelona, you will probably have some time to see and do something else. Of course, in a big city like Barcelona, there's plenty to choose from. Here are our top five tips:
1. walk in Casa Batlló
You don't have to be interested in architecture to find Casa Batlló interesting. Located in the centre of the city, this fabulous house by Antoni Gaudi is an imaginative display of a unique style with surrealist touches. A house can be so much more than a house!
2. visit La Sagrada Familia
Another masterpiece by Antoni Gaudi is La Sagrada Familia church. Although the building is still unfinished, long after Gaudi's death, a visit here is an experience. The interior is designed to resemble a forest, with pillars forming trees that branch out towards the ceiling. Book skip the line tickets if you don't want to spend all day queuing!
3. Walk on La Rambla
During a visit to Barcelona, the pedestrianised La Rambla is a must. On this pleasant promenade you will find lots of shops and outdoor cafés. It is also home to the famous La Bouquiera food market, where you can browse cheeses, sweets and other delicacies.
4. Check out El Barri Gotic
El Barri Gotic, or the Gothic Quarter, is the oldest part of the historic centre of Barcelona. Here you'll find everything from a royal castle and a mighty cathedral to the Jewish quarter. It's nice to wander around on your own, and if you're interested in history, you might also want to book a guided tour here.
5. Experience Barcelona's nightlife
Late in the evening, Barcelona wakes up to the 'second wind'. Rest for a while in your hotel room and then head out for a late dinner at one of the city's many restaurants. After dinner you can take a tour of the lively bars, and after midnight it may be time to head to one of the big nightclubs. Club Opium has a great location right on the beach.
More to do in Barcelona
In addition to our tips, there is of course more to experience during a football trip to Barcelona. For example, you can visit Parc Güell, check out the Picasso Museum, sunbathe and swim, or explore the El Raval neighbourhood with its vintage and quirky shops. What are your top Barcelona tips?
Would you rather go on a hockey trip?
If you prefer hockey to football, you can choose instead NHL trips to New York. The New York Rangers play at Madison Square Garden in the centre of Manhattan. Other clubs include the New York Islanders and the New Jersey Devils.

Ama de casa says:
Barcelona is a fantastic city! My tip there is to walk, walk, walk... Although we have actually taken one of those hop-on-hop-offs once and whizzed past Camp Nou 😉.
NY is not stupid either 😉 I remember when I was there the first time with Anders in 1988 (had been there with his parents earlier in the 60s) and we stood up in the Empire State building and looked out.
- That must be Madison Square Garden, right? I said.
- No, it can't be, said Anders, it's round...
Haha!
We have watched basketball in that arena. The only NHL game we've seen was in Los Angeles 🙂.
Have a great day! Here the sun has - finally! - has returned for real 😀

Nice that you finally got some sun! Yes, Barcelona is a lovely city, isn't it? Not least now in the spring 🙂

Britt-Marie Lundgren says:
Barcelona is a really awesome city, thanks in part to Gaudi. Highly recommend booking tickets for the Sagrada Familia in advance. We got there early morning on a weekday at the end of October and the first free time was the next afternoon. Lucky we had a few days to spare.
We only visited the Camp Nou during the day, and Lars especially suffered when we went to the airport to continue our journey on the same evening that Manchester City hosted FC Barcelona....
(Another thing we saved for "next time").

Helena says:
Agreed! Gaudi's architecture is really fascinating! The church feels almost futuristic to me, even though it was built a long time ago. And I hear you have a reason to go back! 🙂

Emma, sun like sun? says:
I have only travelled past Barcelona, for the most part. I also want to go there and look at Gaudi. Well, his work, that is, he is not so much to look at anymore.
I am completely and utterly uninterested in sport but you can imagine! I have seen an NHL game with the Tampa Bay Lightning in Tampa in 1998. I was mostly amused by the mascots flopping around in the aisles and the blimps flying around in the ceiling. But it was a fun experience, for sure. The most memorable thing was probably when we had to go home late at night because there was an unprecedented thunderstorm and the rain was pouring down. I drove over from Tampa to St Pete where we lived, there is a bridge / embankment that you drive on and it was so the waves almost hit the road while lightning lit up the sky all the time.
Memories ...

Barcelona is really worth a visit! And the match in Tampa seems to have been memorable anyway! 🙂

Mr Steve says:
Barcelona is a wonderful city that has so much to offer. D and I were there in 1998. There were many nice walks in the city, a large number of fascinating art experiences and even some sandy beaches. There was no football match, but we flew past Camp Nou.

Ditte says:
Barcelona is great both with and without football. I have been there a couple of times and also watched football and seen Barcelona play. A visit to Camp Nou is exciting in itself. To then walk in the city and stay by the sea enhances the experience even more.
N.Y. is also exciting. Lived there for a year and have been back many times. But now - Alas, so expensive with accommodation and everything else there. But if you have not visited the city, it is an experience in itself.

Helena says:
Really agree that Barcelona is a city worth visiting! We still have New York 😉 .

marina says:
We had plans for a football match when we were there, but we saved it for next time because there wasn't a very interesting event that weekend. But the pitch is definitely there, because to experience the atmosphere there must be something very special.

Barcelona has everything and more! Gaudi and Camp Nou is a very hard to beat combination:-)
I have only followed the Swedish national team and have sat in the old Wembley, where England played against Sweden. That match was the last match before old Wembley was demolished.

Helena says:
Completely agree when it comes to Barcelona! Cool to have seen Sweden - England at the old Wembley 🙂 .
