We haven't just been celebrating Easter and socialising with friends this weekend. Peter has also installed a chimney for a wood stove. Fortunately, the weather was really nice all the time while he was climbing on the roof, which of course made it all a bit more pleasant. Here is a picture gallery from the assembly.

A log house on Ringsö
Our friends Lennart and Beata have a nice log house on the island. Ringsö in Lake Mälarenand we have been here several times to enjoy the nature, and to help them with the construction. The house is largely finished on the outside, but there is still a lot to do on the inside. This weekend it was time to go one step further. Now it was time to install the chimney for the wood stove!
Wood stove
Lennart and Beata have a beautiful old wood-burning stove that they bought second-hand and installed in their kitchen. The stove, which is of the Ankarsrum brand, dates from the early 1900s. It's fascinating to think about the people it served earlier in history! Of course, to be able to burn it and use it again, you need a chimney.
Installing a chimney
The chimney came new in a whole bunch boxes and it took a bit of thinking to get everything right. For example, because the roof slopes, the hole for the chimney had to be oval instead of round. The dimensions also had to be exactly right.
To figure this out, they had to measure the distance between different points, and then check against a table on the internet. Based on this, they came to the conclusion that the slope was 26 degrees, and then they had to adapt everything to fit this slope.
The first piece of chimney had to be brought up through the roof to the sleeping loft, and then up through the outer roof.
Now it starts to look like something! The chimney is emerging and now there are only a few steps left before it is completely finished.
The chimney on the roof
There you go, the chimney is on the roof and now you can use the wood stove. The only thing that remains now is a check by a chimney sweep.
Ladder to the chimney sweep
Before the chimney can be used, it must be inspected and approved by a chimney sweep. Peter and Lennart have set up a ladder so that the chimney sweep can get up easily. At the far end there are hooks for attaching a ladder.
Thank you for this time
We thank Ringsö and our friends for this time! Today it is time for us to go back to the houseboat, where we ourselves will have guests.

ABSOLUTELY SUPERB!
Great photos by Peter on the Roof.
My husband also put together a chimney from the lower floor
but it was on the outside of the house. Has a very nice Norwegian
wood stove on the lower floor.
I must say, your friends' stove is very nice.
So is the B L A A H I M L E N !!! 🙂

We had exactly the same stove, with water reserves, at home until 1967. As a very young boy, my father gave me a good beating because I didn't want to carry wood for it and all the other stoves in the house we lived in.
The house gives a stable, well-placed and well-built impression. As an old logger, I like the dimension of the timber in the outer walls.

Helena says:
Thank you for your comment Matts! The timber is carefully selected. A lot of time to find the right timber, transport it and set it up! Have a nice Easter!

Good work. Nice to have a wood stove. We use ours, the Näfveqvarn brand, from time to time. Mostly in winter, of course.
Enjoy the end of Easter!

Helena says:
Nice that you use your wood stove sometimes! Here it will also be used, mostly as a heat source I think!

What fun with this old iron stove in his possession. And prefect to have it in place and installed by Peter. An iron stove is a superb source of heat, in addition to being good for cooking. I grew up with one in the country and with my grandmother.
Nice pictures and good documentation.
Wishing you a nice Easter day at the marina.

Helena says:
Yes, here it will certainly be used as a heat source! Maybe not so much for cooking, but it is perfect if you get a power cut 🙂 Wishing you a continued nice Easter!

Things made in the past have a slightly longer shelf life than many things made today, it seems ...

Emma, sun like sun? says:
Oh, I would like one too! A just-in-case stove! The fact that it is also a piece of jewellery in the kitchen is just a bonus.
Wonderful picture with the victorious Peter!

It feels good to have "real stuff" that works in times of crisis.

Worse, you'll have to come up to Dalarna sometime and help us install a fireplace that we've been talking about for years now!

Helena says:
Haha, maybe that will be our new thing, travelling around Sweden and installing stoves 😉.

"A job well done" I must say! I also love the fireplace and the tiles behind it. Incredibly tasteful and nice.
I see that you and Beata didn't exactly work yourselves to death, but at least you documented the construction job;-)

Helena says:
Haha, it's true that we didn't work ourselves to death. At least not me! (Although I brought my computer and worked on "other things" ;))
