Now we can finally present the results of the readership survey! Many, many THANKS to everyone who responded to the survey. It means very much for us. We have received lots of good and constructive feedback and new ideas. Do you also want to know what readers think about our blog? We present the results in today's post.
Table of contents
Thank you for your participation!
We received a total of 132 responses to surveyswhich feels absolutely fantastic. We think we have to say it again: big, big THANK YOU!
Women or men?
Of those who responded to the survey, the gender distribution is as follows. According to the statistics tool Google Analytics, we actually have a slightly larger proportion of men who read than this.
- Women: 68,5 %
- Men: 31,5 %
Age?
The survey really shows a wide range of ages. Great! Of those who responded, the age distribution looks like this:
- 60-69 years (31 %)
- 50-59 years (27 %)
- 70-79 years (17 %)
- 40-49 years (15 %)
- 30-39 years (5 %)
- Up to 29 years (4 %)
- Over 80 years old (0 %)
Where do readers live?
Here the statistics match quite well with what we can see in Google Analytics. Most people live in Sweden, but we also have readers in Finland, Norway and other parts of Europe.
- Other part of Sweden (44 %)
- Stockholm County (25 %)
- Västra Götaland County (17 %)
- Skåne County (7 %)
- Other country in Europe (3 %)
- Finland (2,5 %)
- Norway (1,5 %)
How do readers usually travel?
As we suspected, the majority of our readers travel by motorhome, but there are also many who travel in other ways! However, very few are travelling by caravan, we have to say. It was possible to tick more than one option here, and one person even added their own option, namely a boat.
- Motorhome (58 %)
- Flights (39 %)
- Car, without caravan (22 %)
- Varies between different travel modes (14 %)
- Train (11 %)
- Caravan (4 %)
- Cruising (4 %)
- In the imagination (3 %)
How often do you read FREEDOMtravel?
Of those who responded to the survey, most read weekly or even daily. A few people also filled in their own response options, such as "4-5 days a week", "occasionally" or "when I am looking for information on travel destinations".
- Every week (41 %)
- Every day (27 %)
- Once a month (22 %)
- Falling in by chance sometimes (6 %)
- This is my first visit (1 %)
How to read FREEDOMtravel?
Most people read by accessing the blog directly or through the Facebook, but some also use Bloglovin. A few people filled in their own response options, such as "via the blog feed of Swedish travel bloggers".
- Go directly to www.freedomtravel.se (57 %)
- Via Facebook (53 %)
- Via Bloglovin or other RSS reader (11 %)
What do readers most want to read about?
There were predefined options and three response options: "very happy", "subject to time/mood" and "happy to skip". Most readers choose to skip posts about food (23 votes), houseboat life (19 votes) and foodie travel reports (13 votes). If we instead look at what readers really like to read, we get the following top list:
- Travel stories here and now (110 votes)
- Swedish destinations/attractions (94 votes)
- Motorhome and camping (77 votes)
- Everyday life/Happy Friday (66 votes)
- Top lists, e.g. cities (65 votes)
- Travel News/News (62 %)
- Moderate travel report (61 votes)
- Reflections, e.g. blog/technology (56 votes)
- Houseboat life (45 votes)
- Food (40 votes)
Which geographical areas are readers most interested in?
When asked which geographical areas are the most interesting, you had to choose three favourites. We're not surprised that Europe is at the top, and it suits us because we love exploring Europe!
- Europe (90 %)
- Sweden (71 %)
- North (61 %)
- North America (19 %)
- Asia (15 %)
- South America (8 %)
- Africa (7 %)
- Oceania (6 %)
What activities around the blog do readers want us to do?
This was perhaps a rather rambling question, but an interesting one! We interpret the answers as meaning that we will at least continue to record video films from different destinations. Of course, other things on the list can also happen. This autumn, for example, there will be a cruise with Caravan & Camping!
- Short video/film from destinations (78 %)
- Long video where we talk about travel destinations (34 %)
- Meeting at a fair/event (24 %)
- Live lecture (21 %)
- Joint trips (20 %)
- Competitions (19 %)
- Voting on the blog (14 %)
What do readers think about sponsored content?
The question on sponsored content could be answered with several options. A few people also added their own answers, such as "would be ok with banners" and "ok if you are honest and not just jamming along". Most people seem to think that sponsored content is ok, if we manage it in a correct and credible way. And that is fortunate, because otherwise it is financially impossible for us to continue blogging as we do.
- Great that the blog can get help with funding. (41 %)
- Quite ok as long as it is clearly labelled (40 %)
- No problem as long as it is a credible partner. (28 %)
- Ok as long as it is not too frequent (20 %)
- Ok but I don't read these posts (15 %)
- Absolutely not ok, thinking of stopping reading the blog (2 %)
What do readers want to read more about?
We received many responses to this question and cannot report on all of them. Some recurring themes were motorhome life and camping, motorhome holidays and destinations in Europe. Some people also wanted more personal views and more about the economics of travelling. You can see a small selection of the comments here:
What do readers think we can improve?
When asked what we could improve, the answers were somewhat similar: we wanted more focus on motorhomes and camping, more on costs and more personal views. We also received some constructive comments on issues such as text length and videos. You can see a selection of comments here:
In conclusion ...
This has been very valuable for us and we have received lots of good tips and ideas! We are already thinking about how we can write more about finances and become more personalised 🙂 We are also completely agree with those of you who enjoyed following our one-year motorhome trip around Europe. The dream is to be able to travel like that again, even if it is not easy to realise financially. For now, we do our best on shorter trips! Hugs from us
Ruth in Virginia says:
I didn't answer the questionnaire because I didn't have much to say.
I should have commented and been awarded as the oldest (now 91).
Reader. I have no interest in motorhomes-boats and caravan parks, but I find so many other things of interest that I keep coming back.
What I SHOULD have said, is that this blog is in the top 3-4.
first one I open - always hoping for a bunch of beautiful photos from
your journeys. So glad I caught up with you on the year-long
After that, I felt I wanted to see the next chapter.
Happy Easter!

Ditte says:
It's nice to read the answers from the survey and I can imagine that if you have a motorhome you want more of that. And you can't always write what suits everyone. But I think you have good breadth in your posts.
16 April 2019 - 9:02
Helena says:
I completely agree with you Ditte. It is probably not possible to write so that it suits everyone all the time. Since we ourselves travel both with and without a motorhome, it becomes a bit of both 😉.

Mr Nils-Åke Hansson says:
Thought you had more younger readers 30 - 50 but that was not the case. interesting to see how it is distributed.
16 April 2019 - 9:52
Helena says:
Many of our readers are older than that and this is also true of what Google Analytics shows 🙂.

Goatfish says:
How nice that so many people answered the survey! Congratulations 😀.
I am travelling at the expense of memories, as I don't have a vehicle anymore, but still find your blog enjoyable for me. /Gerd

Helena says:
Yes, very funny! And you travel sometimes, in other ways! 🙂

Anette says:
I didn't have time to reply, as I'm running out of time.
In many ways I think like many others. Now that I've moved home I'm mostly interested in Europe, I don't camp anymore but your travelogues are always interesting.
Read every week, sometimes several times a week.
16 April 2019 - 19:54
Helena says:
Thanks for the comment Anette! When we write about destinations in Europe, we try to write both for those travelling by motorhome and those travelling by other means.

Emma, sun like sun? says:
How interesting the answers you have received! I realise that you have a lot to think about and consider.
I think writing prices is good, it just has to be clear when the post was written. For some inexplicable reason there are many pages where it is very difficult to find, you have to read carefully. It should be easy to see whether it was written in 2003 or last week. I don't know if it is difficult to find the date on your site because I read it in order. I'm thinking more about when you're looking for information about ... anything ... and you stumble across a blog or website. Now I got curious and looked up a page of yours, for example about Vietnam. It doesn't say when the text was written. However, the date appears when you look at blog posts from Vietnam. Sitting and puzzling on ... That's probably how most people have it organised, the difference between a page (without a date) and a post (with a date). But as I said, if you are looking for information, it is sometimes important.
On the more personal side, I think you have found a very good level! I think you offer a lot of yourself and write about your hardships. I mean, the whole Happy Friday beginning and Peter's life! How personal was that?
Imagine, I always make a lot of comments. You probably sigh! ;D But you ask for them (occasionally) and I have such a hard time not to, the brain starts (occasionally). But you really do a super-duper job and I can only imagine how much work there is behind everything!
Hope you can enjoy the beautiful weather Sweden seems to have (right now) and that you have a wonderful Easter!
16 April 2019 - 15:36
Helena says:
Thank you so much for your comment Emma! We are certainly NOT sighing! Of course we want feedback! It is true that there are dates on the blog posts but not on the pages. But we try to write the date next to all price information instead! I agree with you that this is important. Wishing you a great Easter!

BP says:
Huge CONGRATULATIONS to sooooo many responses! Good thing Ruth commented today, because I missed the 1% in the "over 80" age category.
I think you do a great and solid job, which I have said many times. With you there is actually a lot that is not motorhome oriented, so I do not complain at all. Helena, you are an outstanding writer. It is noticeable that you have the "habit inside". However, I can agree that there could sometimes be more "emotional" texts, more personal views, even if they are negative.
16 April 2019 - 22:17
Helena says:
Thank you so much BP for your nice comment!!! 🙂 Yes, I will think about that with more personal! Sometimes I am so focused when I write certain posts that it may disappear, but really it is nice to blog about how you think and feel 🙂

Lena - good for the soul says:
Nice to participate in the survey and nice to see the results. But, hmm, "...chartertrams..." I can't remember seeing a single post about charters. Maybe I'm just forgetful. And, hmmm "... more child and dog focus ..." may be a little difficult and credible for you without children (at home) and dogs. 🙂
A personal touch and more financial information, well, why not? I follow in any case! 🙂
Hug Lena
