Right now we are enjoying Swedish nature on an island in Lake Mälaren. We are also socialising with our friends and helping to put up the chimney. We'll show you more of the house and the chimney construction soon, but first we offer some photos of Swedish nature.

Ringsö - an island in Lake Mälaren
We are currently on the island of Ringsö in Lake Mälaren, with our friends Lennart and Beata. Ringsö is located east of Selaön in Strängnäs municipalityand has an area of 1.9 square kilometres. There are just over 200 plots on the island and most of the houses serve as summer houses, but there are also a small number of year-round residents.
There is no regular boat service to the island, so you have to have your own boat to get here. The year-round residents have joined forces to buy hovercrafts, so they can get to the mainland even during the winter months.
Swedish Nature on Ringsö
The island is full of pine, birch and oak trees, and right now you can also see lots of yellow and blue flowers shining in the middle of the green.
Many of the islands around Ringsö are nature reserves and uninhabited, which is perhaps why animals and nature thrive here.
Wildlife
The bird chirping is intense on Ringsö right now, and you can probably see most common Swedish birds here. Lennart and Beata have reported seeing sea eagles, ravens, lark falcons and ospreys. Yesterday they also heard an iron sparrow. Or rather, we all heard the iron sparrow, but it was only the birdwatchers Lennart and Beata who managed to identify it by sound. We also saw lemon butterflies and bumblebees.
As for mammals, it is common to see deer, moose, hares, squirrels and bats here. Lennart and Beata have also seen martens (swinging between the trees!), ferrets and beavers. Have we seen any animals? Yes, we have already seen several deer, two hares and one or two rabbits. moose.
Evening walk at sunset
Last night we went for a walk along the waterfront. Amazingly beautiful at sunset!
Do you have a place in Sweden where you like to experience Swedish nature? Have you seen any interesting or unusual animals in the Swedish forests?
Matts Torebring says:
What a privilege to be able to live & build like that, in the middle of nature. I long for such an accommodation myself. Just one caveat, I have to bring it with me and have room for the campervan on the doorstep. Have a good weekend!

Helena says:
Yes, fantastic! And I can absolutely understand your desire to have the campervan with you 🙂 .

Really beautiful out here in Lake Mälaren. And Sweden has so many beautiful places. I am particularly fond of islands, especially these smaller ones that are not overpopulated.
We have some favourite islands far out in the sea in the Stockholm archipelago that can only be reached by boat. There are also many gems in the Åland archipelago. And if you have to have your "own" boat to get to an island, there are rarely any large numbers of people who come.
Wishing you a happy Easter.
Here in Torrevieja we are floating along the streets because of all the rain and half the town is closed off - going out is out of the question.
20 April 2019 - 10:34
Helena says:
Yes, it does get a little quieter on islands where you can only go by boat. Wishing you a nice Easter, despite the rain!

Maria /Magnolia Magis says:
How beautiful it seems to be there! We also long for a little spot of our own where we can hear birdsong and nature close by. We'll see what happens this year. Our pearls are on the west coast of Skåne. Where we are now is so nice! Bjärehalvön. Welcome if you are in the neighbourhood! Another nice place is also Stenkällegården in Tiveden. Where we first lived when we moved out. Nature, lake, calm and quiet, primeval forest... Enjoy!
20 April 2019 - 10:42
Helena says:
Thanks for the invitation! Will try to remember it if we end up in the neighbourhood! 🙂

Ama de casa says:
Soooo fantastically beautiful! 🙂
But you have seen "one or two" moose? Is it possible that the Easter moss was spiked? 😉
Have a nice Easter weekend 😀
20 April 2019 - 11:15
Helena says:
Haha, so I saw moose twice. But not sure if it was the same moose or two different ones 😉.

Britt-Marie Lundgren says:
Swedish nature, this time of year and in this weather is almost unbeatable!
We have so many beautiful places close by, including Valle härad, Varnhem, which is so beautiful when the cherry trees bloom on Billingen, Kinnekulle in the spring is not bad either with all the orchids. Then I am so weak for the barren rocks in Bohuslän.
Tomorrow we might go on an excursion and hike on Hinden's reef, straight out into Lake Vänern.
What incredibly beautiful pictures you have taken, especially the evening pictures!

Helena says:
These sound like great places you've found! Glad you like our photos!

Emma, sun like sun? says:
Amazingly beautiful!
I think, on such a small island and all these animals, how did they get there? Did they swim by themselves? The birds I understand how they got there, but the rest? Or did they watch when the ice settled and then get stuck?
As Maria mentions above, Tiveden is absolutely fantastic! I have not been there as an adult but the magic has been deeply embedded in me.
Now I'm going to go peel eggs!
20 April 2019 - 17:16
Helena says:
I think many of the animals can swim (but also walk on the ice). It's quite close to the nearest islands, so shouldn't be a problem for deer or moose for example. Interesting that Tiveden is supposed to be so nice!

BP says:
Fantastically beautiful pictures! Smart that the islanders have got together and bought a hovercraft for the winter. The house that Lennart and Beata have built looks like a Canadian "lodge", great!
I have always admired ornithologists who know their birds, both in terms of appearance and their calls. I am completely hopeless at it. Blackbird, pigeon, seagull - that's it;-)
20 April 2019 - 20:57
Helena says:
I am like you when it comes to birds, but agree, impressive with those who can 🙂 .
21 April 2019 - 10:40
Husis blog says:
Lovely pictures and what a wonderful peace it must be out there in the archipelago. Smart to get a hovercraft, then the residents will never be stranded.
Wishing you also a late Happy Easter greeting!
20 April 2019 - 22:01
Helena says:
Well, a hovercraft is probably practical! And maybe necessary in the winter 😉 Very quiet and nice, but not sure if it is called an archipelago here in Lake Mälaren? Happy Easter!

Elisabeth says:
Wonderful photos! Something special about Swedish nature!
Have a very HAPPY continuation of Easter!

Right? Thank you very much!

Maria's Memoirs says:
oh how beautiful the nordic nature is anyway, and cool to have the wild animals so close by 🙂 .
21 April 2019 - 10:27
Helena says:
Really! Yesterday we saw a whole bunch of playing hares running around 🙂 .
