By motorhome in Wismar! The 'Beach Basket Challenge' journey continues and yesterday it was time to visit the Hanseatic city of Wismar in Germany - and for challenge number two. All seven motorhomes participating in the trip compete against each other every day, in completely different competitions. Here's what happened in the second round!

By motorhome in Wismar - Morning at Ostsee Camping
On the second challenge day of the 1TP5Beach Basket Challenge2019, we woke up to sunshine on the Ostsee campsite in Zierow outside Wismar. We started quietly and then rolled towards Wismar, carpooling in about half of the motorhomes.

The Hanseatic city of Wismar
The German Hanseatic city of Wismar is located on the Baltic Sea coast, in the federal state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in Germany. Between 1648 and 1903, the town belonged to Sweden, and today there are many traces of Swedish history in this lovely little town. For example, every year in August a lively "Sweden Festival”.

Guided tour in Wismar
We went on a guided tour of Wismar with a dedicated guide, who told us about the city's history. Among other things, it was fascinating to see the photos from the extremely worn Wismar in 1990, after the time in East Germany, and compare with today's beautiful city.

Wismar is full of magnificent churches and we visited one of them, St George's Church. Here you can, among other things, take the lift up to a viewpoint, where you have a fantastic view of the city, in several directions. The church that can be seen in the distance, and then in a closer photo, is the church of St Nicholas.

Lunch in Wismar
In the harbour in Wismar there are small stands selling "fischbrötchen", i.e. sandwiches filled with different kinds of fish. We each had a sandwich at Restaurant Seeperle, which has both a stand by the harbour (pictured) and a restaurant a few hundred metres away. We chose the restaurant to sit down and have a beer with the sandwich.

Boat trip in Wismar
In the afternoon we went on a boat trip around Wismar with "Adler Schiffe". The guidance on board was only in German, which was a bit boring, but we had good company and enjoyed ourselves anyway. We enjoyed the sun (which actually came out!) and some of the group ordered "Berliner wasser" - beer mixed with fruit juice. At the same time, we all started mentally charging for the second challenge!

Challenge 2: Kubb
Finally, it was time for challenge number 2: kubb. Klaus from the association AHOI Kubb met us and organised the challenge. Klaus turned out to be a competitive player in kubb and had participated in the championships on Gotland several years in a row. We participants were well little more rusty, but we all worked hard. After a bunch of rounds and careful calculation of results, Klaus had a result for us.

Winners of Challenge 2
Here are the winners of challenge number 2 of the Beach Basket Challenge! We say a big CONGRATULATIONS to:
- Team Parrot with Lars and Maria (3 points)
- Team Aviano with Christer and Petra (2 points)
- Team Fight for Freedom with Helena and Peter (1 point)
Total score - right now
For each challenge, the winning team gets 3 points, the next team 2 points and the team after that 1 point. The points are added up, so that in the end, after all the challenges, we have a final winner. This is how the points stand right now:
- Team Parrot with Lars and Maria (5 points)
- Team Aviano with Christer and Petra (3 points)
- Team Ixeo with Lars and Britt-Marie (3 points)

Dinner at Alter Schwede
The day ended with dinner at the restaurant Alter Schwede, which is located in a really cool old house. Here you sit and eat in a cosy environment, with photos of the Swedish king and queen on the walls. What did we eat? Schnitzel with chips or plaice with potato gratin. Good and nice!

By motorhome in Wismar - pitches and campsites
For those who want, there is a parking space for motorhomes in Wismar, Wohnmobilpark Westhafen, at Schiffbauerdamm 12, Wismar. On this trip, it suited us better to take in camping, and we therefore stood on the Baltic Sea campsite, located on the beach, about 20 minutes by car from the centre of Wismar.
