Beer spa in the Czech Republic - how does it work? We've finally had the chance to try a beer spa, and it wasn't just any beer spa, but the Czech Republic's oldest beer spa, at a small microbrewery in the western part of the country. This was our experience! Have you also tried beer spas in the Czech Republic?

Time for a beer spa in the Czech Republic
Beer and spa are two very important ingredients in the Czech Republic, and when you put these two together, you get beer spa. We have been to the Czech Republic many times, but we have never been to a beer spa before. A few days ago we finally got to try it!
Chadovar - Czech Republic's first and oldest beer spa
We visited the Chadovar Beer Spa, which is 12 minutes by car from the centre. Marianske Lazne (Marienbad), and is actually the first and oldest beer spa in the Czech Republic. They started the procedure back in 2005 and of course use beer from their own microbrewery.
Beer spa in the Czech Republic - how does it work?
None of us five travel bloggers had tried a beer spa before, and we didn't really know what to expect. We had all packed swimwear, but we quickly learnt that swimwear was not allowed in the bath for hygienic reasons. We were each given a sheet to wrap ourselves in and shown to a changing room to change.
Time to crawl into the bath!
At Chadovar Beer Spa there are seven bathtubs in the same room, but all with curtains between them. So we couldn't see each other, but it was great to talk and laugh, which of course we did! Slipping into the hot beer bath was really pleasant.
Many beer spas bathe in extract, but this one actually uses real dark beer in the bath! The bath is said to be good for everything - from psoriasis and cellulite to counteracting stress. Of course, we also had access to a cold beer for "internal treatment".
Rest after the bath
After 20 minutes you can get out of the bath and go to another room where you can rest for another 20 minutes. We lay down wrapped in our sheets, and a woman from the spa wrapped us in warm blankets.
Now it was also time for even more 'internal treatment'. We were also given strict orders to not shower afterwards, as the beer needs to 'work'. We thought it might be uncomfortable not to shower, but that wasn't the case. The skin actually felt really soft after the beer bath.
Restaurant Chadovar
When you've been swimming in beer you get hungry, so it's fitting that Chadovar also has both a brewery and a restaurant. To get to the restaurant, you had to enter through a long passageway through the mountain - cosy and different!
Czech dinner
There were a lot of exciting beers to choose from, and I chose a mixture of light and dark beer (on the right in the picture). A little fun with a beer that tastes one way in the beginning and another way after a little while!
The Czechs like to order soup as a starter and several of us did so. I ordered a potato soup, which was really good. Kristina from the Czech tourist office, who was travelling with us, ordered an interesting starter of pork fat, which the rest of us were content to taste.
For the main course I chose fried cheese, which is a common vegetarian dish in the restaurants here. With hindsight, it might have been enough with a salad as a side dish... At least if you wanted room for dessert too!
More beer spas in the Czech Republic
There are of course many beer spas in the Czech Republic, and it is possible that it works a little differently in different places. When we were in Karlovy Vary last time we peeked into a beer spa called Beerland which was perhaps a bit more touristy and therefore more expensive, but on the other hand very cosy. There, two people could bathe in the same room and then rest on the bed afterwards without leaving the room.
Have you ever tried a beer spa in the Czech Republic? What did you think?

No, I'm probably old-fashioned and conservative, if I'm going to bathe, I want water. However, I don't mind an indoor beer spa 😉.

Sounds fantastic that you bathe in real beer, where I was they used extracts to get the same substances, but on the other hand you got a fresh water that was tapped for each guest.... ?.. or did they do that here too?

From what we understood, most places use extracts, but here they use real beer. Then, for example, the foam is something else. It is written exactly on their website 🙂
