Pia's Kitchen in Kristianstad must be one of the smallest restaurants in Sweden. The small restaurant is located in a charming little cottage on the Åland coast in Skåne and has room for 8 guests. Here you get a very special experience while enjoying creative 7-course menus made from local seasonal ingredients.

One of Sweden's smallest restaurants
Pia's Kitchen is located among the pine forests in Nyehusen, on the Åland coast. At first it's a little hard to believe that you will find a restaurant here, but then you see it, the sign. Pia's Kitchen has room for 8 guests and is open for dinner four days a week, all year round. Here, in one of Sweden's smallest restaurants, you come to experience creative menus prepared with local ingredients.
Pia's kitchen in Kristianstad
Pia is an experienced chef who has worked with food almost all her life. When her husband got a job in Germany, she started her first small home restaurant there. When she moved back to Sweden, she started Pia's Kitchen, which opened in 2014.
Food cooked with love
Pia is passionate about good food and has developed a network of local food producers. She travels around to pick up meat, fish, vegetables and drinks from farms and local breweries. She often buys the meat in the form of a whole lamb or a whole wild boar, so that she can, for example, make her own hanger butter, take care of different cuts and make her own broth.
Pia runs the small restaurant all by herself, taking care of everything from purchasing and composing menus to cooking, serving, washing up and cleaning. The small restaurant takes all her time, and is also her passion.
Lively menus with seasonal ingredients
There is no fixed menu at Pia's Kitchen. Pia continuously creates new 7-course menus based on inspiration and local ingredients, and the menus change every week or two. When you book, you do not know what you will be served, so the menu is an exciting surprise.
If you have special requests, such as allergies or a vegetarian or vegan menu, you can let us know at the time of booking to get a menu that suits you.
Exciting dishes at one of Sweden's smallest restaurants
We tried some of the dishes that Pia is currently serving. The first dish was a tempura on ramson and rapeseed. The tempura was served with Dorset lamb from Österlen, which had been hung for four weeks and then salted. We also got a butter flavoured with dandelions. This must be one of the best things we've had in a long time. The lamb was completely fantastic.
The next dish was exciting! Now it was time for a 63-degree duck egg cooked for two hours in a water bath. The egg was combined with cherry cabbage, crème fraiche from a local milk producer, sourdough crunch, smoked leeks, rainbow cream, roasted mustard seeds and a broth of funnel chanterelles. A very interesting dish that mixed soft and round flavours with bitterness and saltiness.
The main course was pike perch from Ringsjön, which was served with capers. Fantastically good!
Towards the end of the dinner we got a small glass of rhubarb drink mixed with gin from Skånska spritfabriken. The dessert revolved around rhubarb, which is one of our favourites. Super tasty!
A special experience at one of Sweden's smallest restaurants
We must say that spending an evening at Pia's Kitchen was a special experience. In addition to being served fantastic food, it's very personal when you visit one of Sweden's smallest restaurants. We can highly recommend a visit here if you are passing by - but don't forget to book in advance!
