The motorhome trip "Beach Basket Challenge" in Germany continues and we have now travelled from camping Güster at Am Prüßsee to Ostsee camping in Zierow, outside Wismar in northern Germany. Here it was finally time for the first challenge! The participants of course charged during the day, and we can now reveal the winners!
Table of contents
Morning outside camping Güster
Camping Güster, at Am Prüßsee, was closed when we arrived, so we spent the night in the car park outside. Good thing you have a motorhome! In the first picture you see the campsite and our motorhomes from above. In the second picture you see the "morning meeting". When should we leave? Do we go individually or in a caravan?
Lunch stop in Ratzeburg
Our first stop was a lunch break at Zur Kutscherscheune in Ratzeburg, just south of Lübeck. Here you can rent a cottage or room, have a conference or eat at the restaurant. We were guided in Swedish (!) by the owner before it was time for lunch. Why did the owner speak Swedish? Well, she has holidayed in Sweden every summer for 30 years and thinks that Swedish is nice, and not as "hard" as German.
We walked around in the beautiful surroundings and went out on the piers. Britt-Marie and Lars (Team Ixeo) also found a sofa to rest on, perhaps to gather strength for the upcoming races?
We also took a look at the beautiful residential building, which dates back to the 18th century. Finally, we had lunch. Peter and I chose pike-perch, which was served with boiled potatoes and creamy cucumber salad. Very good!
To Ostsee camping in Zierow
After lunch, it was time to move on to Ostsee camping, located by the sea in Zierow near Wismar. We were actually at this campsite with another motorhome group when we visited Wismar in 2017. Great to come back! Here you can see the entire route of the day, as well as some of the road.
Baltic Sea campsite
Ostsee Camping in Zierow is a large and well-run campsite right on the coast, less than a kilometre from Wismar. Our motorhomes are nicely positioned by the sea and close to the service centres.
On campsites There are also cabins, a restaurant, an outdoor gym, health care, the possibility to book private (!) bathrooms, special bathrooms for both children and dogs, a small area with domesticated animals and bowling (or really "kegel"). At the outdoor gym, we could see that some (including Lars from Team Ixeo) took the opportunity to train hard for the evening's challenge.
Challenge 1: Bowling
Finally, it was time for dinner and challenge 1, that is, bowling. Or, to be more accurate, it was not regular bowling but "kegel", which is done with smaller balls without holes.
Each team had two rounds each, and in the meantime we had a nice dinner at a table with a glass window to the bowling alley. Peter and I tried the "Schnitzel of the Day", which on this particular day was schnitzel with tomato and mozzarella. Not bad at all!
Check out the teams and the competition!
Here you can check out the teams' preparation for the start of the race, the race ... and the lucky winners!
Winners of Challenge 1
Here are the winners of challenge number 1 of the Beach Basket Challenge! We can confirm that Team Ixeo's hard work during the day paid off. We say a big CONGRATULATIONS to them:
- Team Ixeo with Lars and Britt-Marie (3 points)
- Team Parrot with Lars and Maria (2 points)
- Team Aviano with Christer and Petra (1 point)
For our part, we haven't given up, of course. We will reload and come back in the next competition!

Looks so lovely and you seem to eat very good foodLm. Fish is always good when you visit the German coast and get fresh fish. Try the Kielerprotten if you get the chance. It is like miniature chicken and a North German delicacy. Keep up the good work,
