Norway's Sommarøy wants to become a time-free zone

While others are discussing summer and winter time, Norway's Sommarøy is going one step further - it has submitted an application to the authorities to become a time-free zone. Sommarøy is a small town and island in the municipality of Tromsø in northern Norway and during the summer the sun does not set at all for 69 days.

Villagers are keen to avoid specific opening hours, deadlines and time-related demands during the summer months. Whether their wishes will be realised is perhaps doubtful, but they have certainly received attention.
