As usual, Monday means travel news here at FREEDOMtravel - at least when we're not travelling ourselves. This week we can reveal how afraid of flying Swedes are, which region has applied to become a time-free zone and which beach has been named the most beautiful in Europe. What do you think of this week's news?

One in five Swedes is afraid of flying
According to a Sifo survey commissioned by Aitours, one in five people say they are somewhat or very afraid of flying. The statistics also show that more women (25%) are afraid of flying than men (14%). Most people (81%) do nothing to alleviate their fear, but 7% drink alcohol, 3% meditate and 2% take sedatives.
Norway's Sommarøy wants to become a time-free zone
While others are discussing summer and winter time, Norway's Sommarøy is going one step further - it has submitted an application to the authorities to become a time-free zone. Sommarøy is a small town and island in the municipality of Tromsø in northern Norway and during the summer the sun does not set at all for 69 days.
Villagers are keen to avoid specific opening hours, deadlines and time-related demands during the summer months. Whether their wishes will be realised is perhaps doubtful, but they have certainly received attention.
Swedes have no need to disconnect on holiday
A Sifo survey commissioned by Resia shows that over half of Swedes (52%) have no need to disconnect from work emails and social media on holiday. A third say that it is natural to disconnect and 13 per cent would like to disconnect, but find it difficult to do so. Only one per cent say that they need to disconnect from email and social media in order to be sustainable. Those who would like to who do not manage to switch off, are mainly younger people (15-34 years old).
Croatian beach named Europe's most beautiful
The Pasjača beach in the small town of Popovići on the Dubrovnik Riviera was recently named the most beautiful in Europe. The tourism organisation "European Best Destinations" (EBD) asked 32,000 travellers from 116 countries to vote for selected European beaches and the result was clear: Pasjača is the most beautiful! The beach is located half an hour's drive from Dubrovnik and a 10-minute drive from picturesque Cavtat on the Dubrovnik Riviera.
7 out of 10 Swedes plan to holiday in Sweden this year
A total of 72 per cent of Swedes are planning a holiday in Sweden this year, according to a survey by Novus on behalf of NOVASOL. According to a survey conducted by Novus on behalf of NOVASOL, even more people in the 30-49 age group are planning to holiday in Sweden this summer - 81 per cent. "I'm sure that last year's fantastic weather affects how we plan this year's holiday," says Torbjörn Fredman, Head of Nordic Operations at NOVASOL.

A time-free zone sounds nice and relaxing at first, but I would probably be super stressed by something like that. Not knowing what the opening hours are, etc. would probably drive me crazy. I still sometimes forget that there is a siesta in this country and then it is still at fairly fixed times... 😀.
Have a great start to the week!

I thought the same way. It sounds nice, but I also think I could be stressed by it, haha.

I also like to holiday in Sweden in the summer, but that doesn't exclude other things. I am happy to travel abroad at other times of the year though.
(For many, the declining value of the Swedish krona may also play a role).

Sweden is beautiful in summer, especially when the weather is good! But I agree with you, one need not exclude the other. For us it will be both Sweden and part of Europe this summer.

Very informative 🙂 .
And I had no idea that so many people were afraid of flying.

Helena says:
Neither do I. But I would probably also answer "a little afraid of flying" if I were asked. Can think that it is a bit uncomfortable to fly sometimes ...

Britt-Marie Lundgren says:
I really understand everyone who holidays in Sweden in the summer, especially with last summer in mind.
If, on the other hand, the summer is cold and rainy, every single sun holiday will be wasted and the answer to the question will be the opposite...

Helena says:
Of course it is! Now you remember last summer AND this summer has started well. Maybe not so strange that many people choose Sweden. But as I said, when it rained for several weeks in a row, it is not as fun 😉.

A time-free zone - no thanks! "Old habits die hard" as they say in English.
Not being connected and not being able to blog - no thanks there too;-) A bit unlikely that people between 15-34 years would want to disconnect. I thought it was precisely that age group that was completely dependent on being connected all the time. Yes, me too then;-)

Travel Friday says:
I love the swimming holiday trend, but I think last year's terrible weather also plays a role. Many people seem to be longing for a few hours of sun in the account.
