In co-operation with Czech Tourism
Today we're recommending three hotels in Karlovy Vary (Carlsbad) in the Czech Republic - one where the celebrities hang out, one for those who want a spa at the hotel and one for those who like nice boutique hotels. Hotel Pupp is also worth checking out, whether you plan to stay there or not!

3 hotels in Karlovy Vary
During our recent trip to the Czech Republic, we managed to check out three hotels in Karlovy Vary. We took a guided tour of one of them, had lunch at another and stayed at the third. All can be good choices - depending on what you are looking for.
1. Grand Hotel Pupp - the celebrity hotel in Karlovy Vary
Hotel Pupp in Karlovy Vary is truly the hotel of celebrities - past and present. Back in the 18th and 19th centuries, celebrities came here to rest and drink healthy well water. Today's celebrities instead arrive for the film festival held in July every year, since 1946. Outside the entrance to the Pupp Hotel, you can look at stone slabs in the ground and see which celebrities have stayed at the hotel, and in what year. Here is a small, small selection.
Presidential Suite at Hotel Pupp
Our guide proudly showed off the Presidential Suite, so called because this is where the president stays when he visits. Even film stars tend to book in here. In addition, ordinary mortals can choose to book the Presidential Suite, if only you can cough up the cost. Adjacent to the suite there are also rooms for security personnel, if you have such company with you.
Luxurious surroundings at Hotel Pupp
At the Pupp Hotel, you are of course in an exclusive environment, reminiscent of the luxury life of the aristocracy in the 19th century. Or to the James Bond film Casino Royal. Here you can sit at the same table as the lead actor did in the film - or more or less. The hotel avoids saying exactly which seat it is, as there will be a huge queue to sit there.
Buffet breakfast at Hotel Pupp
We didn't stay at the Pupp hotel in Karlovy Vary, but we stopped by during the breakfast buffet and had a chance to check out the luxurious displays. We were most intrigued by the large honeycomb with honey. We've never seen that at a breakfast buffet before. Have you?
Price example: 2 adults one night in June, including breakfast and access to the spa = 152 euros (approx. 1740 SEK).
2. Hotel Prezident - Spa Hotel
One day we had lunch at the spa hotel. Hotel Prezident. Here they served what the Czechs apparently call "Swedish table", i.e. a buffet. The restaurant felt perhaps a little more rigid than cosy, but the food tasted excellent. However, what attracted the most at Hotel Prezident was the modern spa facility available here. In addition to nice pools, there are both regular wellness treatments and traditional Czech spa treatments.
Price example: 2 adults for one night in June, including breakfast and access to the spa = €162 (approximately £1,850).
3. Atlantic Palace - central boutique hotel
We stayed at the boutique hotel Atlantic Palace. This is a nice and cosy little hotel that is very central, right in the middle of the action. I liked our lovely windows, and I also liked that breakfast was served at the top, with really nice views of the city.
Price example: 2 adults one night in June, including breakfast = 108 euros (approx. 1230 SEK).
Are you travelling by motorhome?
Yes, there is a campsite in Karlovy Vary too, and we visited it last time we were in town. The campsite is called Camp Varry and is located on a hill above the city.

What an incredibly beautiful city! Tucked away in a very beautiful way there in the middle of the nature 🙂
Pupp (giggling a little at the cute name 😉 ) also looked absolutely fantastic, I could imagine hotel camping there 😉 But Anders would probably find another good, but cheaper alternative.
Very funny about the honey on the breakfast buffet - I've never seen anything like it.
Have a nice Whitsun evening!

Karlovy Vary is an amazingly beautiful city! ? Pupp is a funny name, I agree. It is the name of the family that owned the hotel from the beginning.

BP says:
Hotel Pupp is beautiful to look at, but personally I would not "fit in" there. I really like the spa hotel, much more "my style". Your hotel in the centre of town is perfectly fine too. If you are only there for one or two days, the location is the most important thing, I think.

Can't believe the prices! Cheap! In Washington you can
hardly a decent room for less than 200 dollars...
Pupps room with breakfast for about 175 bucks - pure theft! 🙂
When Don and I were travelling, all countries behind the Iron Curtain were taboo, unfortunately.
You have shown so many wonderful and interesting sites from there,
Appreciate all your photography and writing.
