We're finally off on a motorhome trip in Estonia, exploring the country for three weeks! We started by taking the cruise ship Baltic Queen to Tallinn and on the way we were joined by Peter's brother and his wife. Very nice! The trip was not completely problem-free though. No less than three times we forgot very valuable things in inappropriate places ...

With the Baltic Queen to Tallinn
We travelled with the Baltic Queen, Tallink Silja, from Stockholm to Tallinn. Peter's older brother Micke and his wife Nilla decided to join us on a Tallink cruise. They think we never see each other and that we are so busy. Now that it was our birthday, they wanted to see us, and they solved it by booking a ticket to the Baltic Queen, when we were still travelling. Great!
The Russian restaurant Alexandra
In the evening, Micke and Nilla chose to invite us to a birthday dinner at the Russian restaurant Alexandra on board the Baltic Queen. I (Helena) had just turned one and Peter would turn one soon after. We humbly thank them!
We had a super nice evening at restaurant Alexandra. In addition, we got really good food! For starters, we chose a tray to share with air-dried ham, pickled garlic, pickled cucumbers, quail eggs, cold-smoked sturgeon and cold-smoked salmon. For the main course, Peter and I chose pike perch, and then we finished with some cheese. Really, really good!
Special breakfast at the Baltic Queen
The next morning we chose the "special breakfast" on board the Baltic Queen. We have had this once before, and definitely think it is worth it. You have to pay 19 euros, compared to 13 euros in the regular breakfast buffet.
As well as bubbly, there are lots of goodies, such as rum, pâtés and tasty cheeses. What also makes it all worth it is that you get peace and quietIt's not nearly as busy as the big breakfast buffet.
Forgetting things no 1
I took a photo of the breakfast, and afterwards I forgot my handbag with the camera in it at the breakfast table. I realised it half an hour later... panic! We rushed down to the restaurant, and luckily the bag was still there. Phew, what luck!
Arriving in Tallinn - forgetting things number 2
Micke and Nilla had a few hours to do Tallinn before the Baltic Queen returned, and we decided to join them. We packed everything we would need and left the motorhome in the harbour. "But where is my mobile phone?", Peter asked when we reached the Old Town. He had left it on the driver's seat of the campervan... We just had to go back, and luckily it was still there!
A beer in Tallinn - forgetting things no 3
Even before entering the gates of the Old Town, we stopped for a beer. I ran up a hill on the side to take pictures of both the city and the company from above. We had a really nice time here and when we left, Peter thought to himself not at all that he left his entire rucksack behind ...
Town Hall Square - and what happened to the rucksack?
We walked up to the nice Rådhustorget, where we looked at the nice dragons on the Town Hall and the old pharmacy that has been in the same place since 1422. Then we went for a pizza. We had a very nice time until Nilla (very wisely) said "Peter, didn't you also have a backpack?".
Peter's backpack contained a computer (!), film camera, selfie stick and cables. Among other things. We had left it unattended on an outdoor terrace in the centre of Tallinn for several hours. I can say that my heart was beating quite fast when we walked back to the terrace with quick steps. And there it was, as if nothing had happened! Talk about trip!!!
Shopping in cosy alleys
Happy to still have all our possessions we walked around for another hour in Tallinn. We strolled around in all the cosy old alleys and looked in all the little shops selling knitwear and different kinds of handicrafts. Nilla also made some bargains.
More photos from Tallinn
We conclude with a few more photos from the beautiful city of Tallinn. After our day in Tallinn, we continued north in Estonia for more motorhome adventures. During three full weeks we will explore the country and check out sights, experiences and campsites. Please continue to follow our journey, here on the blog and at @freedomtravelnews on Instagram.

Wow, we've also messed up and forgotten things sometimes when travelling. But we've always been lucky. People are mostly honest!
I would love to visit Tallinn again in the summer, having only been there in December.

Helena says:
It's true that most people are honest! (But you are always worried that you will be unlucky). Tallinn is a nice city! ?

My worst "forgetting experience" was many years ago in Las Vegas. We were having a buffet dinner at a casino. I went to get food and told my husband to wait at the table because I left my bag on the couch next to him. On my way back to the table I met him...without a bag... Panic!!!! It seemed like an eternity before we found our way back to the table (the restaurant was not the smallest...) The bag was still hidden by the tablecloth. That was the time when the entire holiday fund was in the handbag. It went well that time and you always learn something. I'm glad that all your belongings also came to rest.

That feeling when you do not know if you will get your stuff back is hard! Glad it went well for you that time too!

Vackralillavardag says:
Oh, we also leave things behind, but I have learnt to usually do a double check when we get up. But sometimes you forget that too?
07 July 2019 - 8:18
Helena says:
Yes good to double check!!! We need to get better at it! ?

Congratulations to both of you first and your nice trip there with the motorhome!
And what luck that everything you forgot was found again!
Enjoy your journey......

When we were in Mexico, I put my camera on a shelf in a sports shop and left the shop. Thankfully, it was also left in a pile of T-shirts...
For our part, there must be a visit to Tallinn, the only question is when it will fit into the planning.....
07 July 2019 - 9:12
Helena says:
Yes, how hard it is to forget things like that!!! Certainly it is difficult to have time for everything you want. Tallinn is nice and remains! 🙂

Ama de casa says:
Congratulations to both of you! Both to the drunken days and to the fact that you have all your stuff in place even though you left them "a little" carelessly ...
It's a real anxiety de luxe when you realise you've left important things in an inappropriate place. The other week I forgot my handbag in a fitting room at a Chinese store here in town. I realised it almost immediately and rushed back - the handbag was gone! I was dying... Then I realised it was hanging under a piece of clothing. Phu! I usually never leave clothes in the fitting room when I've tried them on and now I understand that it's wise to be thorough. I was the one who had "hidden" the bag so I forgot it when I left.
What a wonderful start you had on your trip to Estonia (minus the heartbreak 😉 ). Have a continued great trip (in a double sense 😉 )!

Thank you!!! Yes, we are so happy that our stuff was still there! After all, most people are honest and friendly! ?? Glad it went well with your bag that time too!!!

Oh what time goes by, I looked at the card yesterday, it is 10 years since we were in Tallinn with the motorhome. But you recognise yourself.

Yes, time goes fast, I recognise it!!! Much is certainly still the same in Tallinn! (For example, the pharmacy that has been in the same place since 1422!!!)

Mr Steve says:
It was an exciting start with all the forgotten things. I don't think you will forget anything else, at least not on this trip.

What a nice table setting at the restaurant. If I were to forget my camera and computer somewhere, I would be nervous to say the least. Even though I have two equivalent cameras and two MacBooks with me. Enjoy the adventure and the journey!
07 July 2019 - 17:38
Helena says:
Oh, two!? But that doesn't mean you want to get rid of any of them!!!! And thank you, we will enjoy the trip!!!
08 July 2019 - 8:42
Ditte says:
I'm glad you're here. And very lucky that your forgotten things were still there. Maybe it wouldn't have been like that in Stockholm.
When travelling across the Baltic Sea, we always book a table in an à la carte restaurant and a "special breakfast". We want to take it easy.
Daughter but family and grandchildren have been in Estonia with their grandfather all week and attended the Song Festival in Tallinn. Powerful with 27 000 Estonians singing. Maybe you were there too
Wishing you a continued good journey.
Wishing you a nice continued journey.
07 July 2019 - 19:29
Helena says:
Of course it would have been cool to see the Song Festival, but now we also wanted to socialise and Peter's brother and wife had not been to Tallinn before. But we saw lots of people in folk costumes, so I guess it was part of the festival! 🙂
08 July 2019 - 8:44
BP says:
Congratulations to you both in retrospect!
I have a feeling that you really need a holiday! I mean real holidays, without stress and "musts". God what a thing to forget things in three different places in one day, and not just any things either. You were incredibly lucky there, especially with the backpack.
Yes, if it had been stolen, we wouldn't have been able to read this post and admire all your great photos.
07 July 2019 - 21:35
Helena says:
Thank you so much! Haha, yes, that's probably true! This trip is at least a little more relaxing because we control our trip ourselves and have no direct times booked. And we are sooo happy that we have the computer left! 🙂

Lena - good for the soul says:
Wow, what a heartbreak after forgetting all that! I once forgot my big system camera hanging on a hook in a toilet in San Diego. It took a while before I realised it was gone, and another while before I realised it could be there! Phew!
Tallinn is a nice and cosy city. I'm glad you had company. We also had that plank for a starter at that particular restaurant. Good quality! We swore off that particular breakfast when it was too late. We discovered that it was there when we had already eaten... in the noisy restaurant...
