Motorhome holidays in Estonia
The best thing this week is of course our motorhome trip in Estonia! We took the ferry to Tallinn and then followed the northern coast eastwards. Really interesting and exciting trip! Here are our blog posts so far, in case you missed them:
- Motorhome holidays in Estonia - starting in Tallinn
- Lahemaa National Park in Estonia - nature and mansions
- Rakvere Fortress in Estonia - history and acting
- The cliffs of Ontika in Estonia - and Oru Park in Toila
- Narva in Estonia - on the border with Russia
Impressions from the campervan trip in Estonia
What is it like travelling in Estonia? Peter thinks it's a bit like travelling in Sweden, and in a way it is. If nothing else, the climate is about the same.
It is very simple travelling in Estonia, and somehow it feels relaxed. People are friendly, most speak English and it's cheap. It's not very crowded (a population of 1.3 million and quite a few tourists outside of Tallinn), so there's no need to crowd, queue or pre-book anything.
There are campsites - some very basic and others very modern. Free camping is also allowed and there are many nice places to free camp. In the pictures below you can see the place where we fricamped at Lake Peipus in Eastern Estonia.
Experiences at Lake Peipus
We recently visited Lake Peipus in Eastern Estonia, the fifth largest lake in Europe. Here we were surprised by a lot of interesting experiences: ancient orthodox culture, country life, ghost castles, boat trip and village festival among others. We will tell you more about this tomorrow!
Rally in Tartu
Soon it will be time for us to participate in this year's big rally event in Tartu, which takes place throughout the weekend. We are cooperating with the Estonian Tourist Board and they have given us special "rally passes" so that we can cover the event as well as possible. We are prepared and excited, and will of course also return about this soon!
What has been the best part of your week? Are you on holiday or holding down the fort at work?

Ruth in Virginia says:
Best My son's three children (16.18. 20) are here until Sunday,
when they, together with their mum, fly to Copenhagen.
fvb to Sweden to familiarise himself with the family.
The young people are great. They went to the supermarket, bought
food, etc., after which the oldest cooked dinner (pasta and fried fish).
The other two did the dishes and cleaned the kitchen. It's their
Asian (Vietnamese) mother, who laid the foundation.
Oh dear - it is already Friday. Have a nice end of the week!

It looks really nice in that country. It's nice when it's not so crowded! What luck that a tree grew out of the park bench. Then you can support yourself a little if you are a little 🙂 tired 🙂 .

I realise that I'm used to more tourists. It's great that it's so quiet! ??

What a wonderful week you have had!
I am one of those who have been holding down the fort at work (a couple of days almost 12 hour shifts) and it will probably be worse next week when even more colleagues get well-deserved leave.
Now, however, it is a long holiday weekend and the motorhome will get out and roll after lunch.
Best of the week: Lars has done some much-needed house painting and it's half done!

Good thing some people are holding the fort! ?? Great job with the house painting!

What fun! Do you know where in Estonia you plan to travel?
12 July 2019 - 17:17
Helena says:
We have no immediate plans. The weather might decide a bit too. We have never been to Saaremaa, so we will probably visit there. A week is too short but...

Travelling around Estonia seems to be convenient and pleasant. But if you look at the first picture, the locals seem a bit.... stiff? 😉 😀
Like the bench with the tree - fun!
Have a happy Friday!

Glad that you are enjoying yourself so much in Estonia. I have never travelled around here with a motorhome, but I have travelled a lot by car and sailed. Always nice and friendly and with a price picture that is favourable for us.
I have worked a lot, both here in Stockholm with cruise ships, been in Dalarna on travel jobs, planned jobs including a trip to eastern Finland in a week. And I have had some time off. The jobs trickle in and it's great fun.
Wishing you a continued good journey.

Estonia is a great place to travel, and of course it doesn't have to be by motorhome! Glad that the jobs are coming in! ??

What wonderful pictures! Both the ones Peter took with the drone and where you must have been lying on your stomach taking pictures of the beautiful orange flowers.
Estonia seems to have adopted some habits from Finland. Think of the sauna boat.
It's great that you can follow the rally event from a VIP seat.

Helena says:
Glad you like our pictures! And yes, the sauna culture seems at least as "hot" here as in Finland!
13 July 2019 - 16:25
Avw says:
Estonia has a sauna culture as old as Finland.
