Krummin guest harbour is a nice guest harbour on the island of Usedom in Germany. We sailed here, with the South Coast Baltic Boating Rally, and the next day we went on a bike ride to the fishing village of Freest and the nice little town of Wolgast.

Towards Krummin guest harbour
We have continued the sailing trip with South Coast Baltic Rally, and after the visit to Szczecin in Poland we set course for Krummin guest harbour in Germany.
We arrived at Krummin guest harbour relatively late in the evening, and it took some time to dock as the water level was unusually low. It is generally quite shallow in these waters, but right now it was extra shallow and we hit the bottom several times. Fortunately, it's mostly silt, and nothing hard that you bump into. Eventually we arrived, and were able to dock outside another large boat.
krummin guest harbour
Krummin guest harbour, or Natural harbour Krummin as the harbour is called, is a nice little natural harbour on the western part of the island of Usedom. There is room for many small boats here, and there is also a nice restaurant and a really fresh and modern service centre.
Bike ride to Freest
After our first night in Krummin guest harbour, it was time for a bike ride. We cycled to Freest, which is on the mainland, which meant we had to take a small ferry with all the bikes.
Freest in Germany
Freest is a nice little fishing village, where the fishing boats are close together. You can also see some tourist boats, which take tourists to various destinations in the neighbourhood.
In Freest there is a nice little sandy beach with soft fine-grained sand. If we hadn't been part of a large group with lots of activities going on, we would have liked to hang out here for a while.
In Freest there is a small museum called Heimatmuseum. Here you can see the hand-knotted carpets that are specific to the area. It was fishermen who started tying rugs when there was a shortage of fish in the water. The rugs have very special patterns and if you look closely you will find anchors, ships, fish, eels and all sorts of other things related to life at sea.
We also visited a small shipyard that repairs old wooden boats, run by a dedicated woman. Fascinating visit!
For lunch we visited a small fish shop and ate the popular "fischbrötchen" - bread with pickled herring or other fish.
Cycling tour to Wolgast
We then continued the bike ride towards Wolgast, which is also on the mainland, near the island of Usedom. We cycled along fields and roads, and in some places also through a beautiful forest.
Wolgast in Germany
Wolgast is a small town with around 12,000 inhabitants. It was captured by the Swedes twice in the 17th century and was a Swedish town until 1815, when it became Prussian.
Some of the buildings worth checking out in Wolgast are the beautiful town hall, the bank which was built in Bauhaus style and the church, which is unusually grand for such a small town.
evening in krummin guest harbour
After our bike trip, which took exactly the whole day, we came back to Krummin guest harbour. We were super hungry, and ordered beer and a hamburger with pulled pork. The food tasted really good, and also a praise for fast serving. We also had a nice evening! Soon we will continue towards new adventures.

Extra fun to combine sailing with bike rides in the surroundings. See here at home that many sailboats have bicycles on deck and it is good if you want to / visit larger places.
Wishing you continued nice days and good winds so there will be a lot of sailing.

What a wonderful trip you are on. The combination with bike rides on land is great. Usedom is really high on our wish list.

What cosy little towns, so wonderful to be able to take your own boat over to Germany! 🙂 The carpets were very nice, easy to get them home to Sweden with your own boat, but all the more difficult to transport them to the harbour by bike, I can imagine! 😉

Truly a very different holiday trip you are doing! Great mix of adventure and sightseeing, not to mention the local food. These Fischbrötchen are also available in Holland. Simple but super tasty!
Almost liberating to see that not one cyclist was wearing a helmet. So un-Swedish actually.
