We have tested the Inspire Camper 5.99 sheet metal. We drove and lived in the camper during a nearly three-week campervan trip through Estonia. This is what we thought!
Table of contents
We've tested a plough from Inspire.
We've checked out Inspire patches at several trade fairs, including a post about Inspire Camper - a flatbed with a standard motorhome door, when we were at the Caravan Stockholm fair this year. Since we fell in love with the vans when we saw them at the fair, it was fun when Alexander at Inspire asked if we wanted to test one of the motorhomes on one of our trips. Of course we did!
Inspire camper - from Slovenia
Inspire Camper is a motorhome brand from Slovenia that is relatively new to the Swedish market. The company manufactures small camper vans, known as flatbeds, and in addition to the Inspire Camper 5.99 that we tested, there is the smaller 5.40 variant and the larger 6.40 variant. The motorhomes are available for purchase and hire.
Built from the Citroën Jumper, these vans have attracted a lot of attention at trade fairs because they have some unusual and clever solutions. One of the most striking things is that, if you want, you can have them fitted with a regular motorhome door instead of a sliding van door.
Inspire camper 5.99
The Inspire Camper 5.99 is a 6 metre long flatbed with four belted seats and two to four beds, depending on whether or not you order it with or without a fold-down bed from the roof.
Travelling through Estonia
We tested the Inspire Camper 5.99 on a trip that started in Stockholm and then took us all around Estonia - all the way to the... Narva in the east and then onto the islands of the west coast, which Saaremaa and Dagö. We also took a short trip to Latvia, where we visited a local centre. summer camp for poor children. We spent a lot of time on narrow gravel roads in the countryside and we hitchhiked three nights out of four, so the Inspire got to show what it could do.
Driving the Inspire camper 5.99
Peter found the Inspire Camper 5.99 easy and smooth to drive. It was also extremely easy to park in towns and at attractions, as the car is so small. The only downside was that the blackout curtain boxes meant that the lower part of the rear view mirror on the passenger side was not visible. This should be rectified by ordering the car with a different cassette.
Large lovely kitchen
Although the Inspire Camper 5.99 is small, the kitchen feels big and spacious. The large white drawers at the bottom are big and absorb a lot, and the side cabinets with baskets are also fantastically practical for storage.
The fridge is large and spacious, and looks great too! At the bottom of the fridge is a large fridge door that pulls out separately. Great for storing water, beer and wine, we thought!
Cosy seating area
The seating area is laid out like most motorhomes, with swivelling driver's seats so you can sit four around the table if you want to.
Spacious bathroom
It's not just the kitchen that is spacious in the Inspire Camper 5.99, but also the bathroom. We were really surprised at how big it felt. The bathroom is designed so that you move through the shower area when you go to the toilet. In this way, the area in the shower is also used as "swing space". The only disadvantage of the bathroom was that the toilet cassette was unusually difficult to insert and remove from the outside.
Bedroom with lots of cupboards
The bedroom consists of a cross bed at the back. Peter (who is 1.83 metres tall) thought the length was just about right, so it can be difficult if you are taller. Otherwise, we thought the bed was cosy. There are plenty of cabinets for storage above the bed, and there are also electrical outlets for both a regular power cord and a USB plug.
To get to the bed you have to unfold a small step at the floor. This was reasonably easy, although you can't have the step unfolded while opening the lower fridge door.
Fold-down bed
The motorhome we drove had a fold-down bed. We didn't need it, and would have preferred to be without it. The bed takes up some of the ceiling height and you also miss the light from a skylight. However, the flatbed is available with or without a fold-down bed, depending on your preferences.
Storage in Inspire Camper 5.99
There is a garage at the back, where you can store outdoor furniture and other items. One problem with the door was that it did not open high enough, but the manufacturers are aware of this problem and plan to fix it.
Inside the motorhome, there is plenty of storage space in the form of various cabinets, especially along the roof.
Control panel
On the wall in the kitchen is a control panel, which works much like most motorhomes. However, we didn't have an instruction manual, which you might ask for.
Thank you for this journey, Inspire
It was really fun to try the Inspire Camper 5,99 during the trip in Estonia! Maybe we'll get the chance to drive the Inspire again sometime in our lives, we wouldn't mind. Have you looked at Inspire at the fairs, or have you thought about an Inspire motorhome?

Ama de casa says:
Looked heavenly nice and fresh, but I do not think motorhome is my thing... (I thought that in itself about cruises too, so there is something in the fact that you should never say never... 😉 ).
Saw that you had prioritised just right when it comes to what needs to be stored in the fridge 😀.

Haha, you should try it! Soooo much more comfortable than tents, I promise 🙂 .

Ditte says:
Glad you got to test the car and that you were so pleased. Funny to read what you thought. It seems to be smooth and a bit of "compact living". But motorhome life is not for us. (We have tried New Zealand with a motorhome and crossed the USA in a "camper". Nice experiences but not our thing.
We have had sailboats in the past, but they have probably been more spacious because they were both longer and wider. On the other hand, they have been at sea. But I do see similarities between motorhome life and boat life. And differences of course. At sea, there are many nature experiences during the journey and we have rarely spent the night in guest harbours.

Glad you tried it anyway, Ditte! Not everything suits everyone, and it is important to find what you like. Sailing also seems wonderful! We will be sailing in Germany very soon. There will soon be more about it here on the blog 🙂.

Anna says:
Nice to read how you experienced it. Strange that with the rearview mirror 🙂

Helena says:
Yes, a bit strange. But I understood that they were aware of it too. Tor that they will fix some small things. It is a fairly new motorhome.

Smart fridge solution! I can imagine that there are some smart solutions in the ploughs. Have honestly never given those models a thought, we stick to slightly larger variants 🙂.

Helena says:
I really loved the fridge! Really convenient to store drinks and stuff (or whatever you want there). And of course you should choose a size of motorhome that you like!

Role o Carina says:
Sure, it seems good for its size, but too small for us! 🙂
We also like long beds and a big garage underneath.
Take care....

Helena says:
Then of course you've made the right choice with a bigger car! ??

BP says:
An inspire that inspires, I would say. Only small things that bothered, and which are relatively easy to fix. Just saying Citroën, love their cars and now also their trucks:-)
06 August 2019 - 21:45
Helena says:
Yes, very nice and cosy! Many smart solutions! There were some small things that did not work optimally, but several of the things will probably be fixed, it is a fairly new motorhome.

Deciree says:
It looked nice that motorhome. And convenient with a regular door, I think.
07 August 2019 - 6:34
Helena says:
Very nice! One of the advantages of a regular motorhome door is that you get more cabinets in the kitchen!

Our Vantastic Travels says:
Successful interior design, Seems like they got the best of both worlds; Plåtisar and regular plastisar. Since we have been driving a regular motorhome for 20 years and now a Plåtis for 1.5 years, we are well aware of the advantages and disadvantages of both.
Fun test,

Helena says:
You have a good understanding of both worlds! Yes, we think there were many clever solutions!

Lena - good for the soul says:
That seems like a really good option. You just have to like smart solutions! Sometimes I wonder how they come up with everything. Just that, actually ridiculously simple, to use the space in the shower. How do you come up with that?

Mr Victor says:
Well written and agrees with most of what is written about the car. I have used it 2×3 nights and am very satisfied.
One addition I would like to mention, which unfortunately you did not test, is the fold-down bed. This is one of the BEST and most unique solutions to fit in a caravan. Perfect if the small family is going out or if you are 2 friends on an adventure. Small smooth car that gets around but does not have to sleep in the same bed.
As I see it, Plåtisen has, in many ways, a different target group than its larger cousins (I have also tested it).
Would be fun to try 6.40 too! Hello Inspire! 👍🙌
