Today we can report on Sweden's hottest wedding destinations and why Greenland has been given a boost. We can also tell you about a list with surprising results, to say the least. The list of the world's best backpacking destinations is certainly not what we expected.
Table of contents
Swedes' favourite wedding destinations
According to Resia, it is trendy to get married abroad and more and more Swedes are choosing exclusive destinations for both weddings and honeymoons. The most popular wedding destinations, based on booked trips for 2019 and in-store enquiries, are:
- Maldives
- Mauritius
- Aruba
- Italy (Tuscany, Cinque Terre, Portofino)
- Caribbean + Mediterranean cruise
Popular cultural experiences on a solar holiday
A new survey by online travel agency eBeach.se shows that one in two Swedes want to do more cultural excursions with their children on their sun holiday. Almost one in five think they are a good way for children to learn more about the destination, but one in ten have difficulty finding interesting experiences. This is what Swedes prefer to experience:
- Historic cities
- Local markets
- National parks
- Historical landmarks
- Ancient monuments
Trump has increased interest in Greenland
Greenland has been in the media lately, due to Trump's interest in the big island. The increased reporting may also have sparked interest among Swedes in the destination as a place to visit. Recent figures from the hotel and travel search site momondo.se show that Swedes' searches for flights to Greenland have increased by 225 percent during the period 16-25 August compared to the same period last year.
Viking Line's Rosella presents a harvest menu
Viking Line reports that the Åland cruiser Rosella offers fully loaded entertainment weeks all the way to Christmas. There will be a harvest menu with local delicacies such as perch, chanterelles and Åland honey. On Mondays, guests are invited to Café Rosella, such as Robert Wells, journalist Ann-Britt Ryd Pettersson, politician Alf Svensson and journalist and actor Sven Melander. Music and dance band cruises are also organised.
1.3 billion for Royal Caribbean's iconic ship
Royal Caribbean spends large amounts on renewing its ships, and now it is "Allure of the Seas" that will undergo a major makeover. The price tag will be just over 1,3 billion Norwegian kroner and the first cruise with the renovated ship will go on 10 May next year, from the home port of Barcelona. The ship will be upgraded with, among other things, the world's highest slide at sea, which runs over 10 levels.
The world's best backpacking destinations
Last but not least, the this week's most surprising list. Globehunters has put together a list of the world's best backpacking destinations. The list is based on indices of happiness, safety, internet access and cost of living. Based on these criteria, Scandinavia comes out on top, with the United Arab Emirates also making the top 10. But these are expensive, and in many cases cold, countries? We don't get it ... what happened to backpacking in Southeast Asia?
- Finland
- Denmark
- Canada
- Czech Republic
- Sweden

Wow, that's a lot of money for a renovation! The slide, does it go out to sea or? Hope they pick up the passengers too ...

Haha, I hope you land in a swimming pool or something...? ?

Oh dear. I thought it was our trip to Greenland that increased my interest in this amazing island, but that wasn't the case... 😉.
Haha! Yes those destinations for backpacking were a bit unexpected. Southeast Asia and South America were the order of the day before Anders realised that it was easier to carry ONE suitcase than two backpacks 😉.
Have a great start to the week!

It could be Trump combined with your trip to Greenland that has produced the favourable figures?

Nice to see Finland so high on the list. And you can get to the countries, except Canada, without flying. Yes, you can sail to Kanda of course, but that is something else.
In terms of wedding destinations, I think Fiji is hard to beat and there a trip with Blue Lagoon Cruises among the small islands / atolls and then get married at sunset, on an island, barefoot in the sand. Memorable. We have done it. We also took the opportunity to travel around the world. And if you get married in Fiji, it is also valid in Sweden. This is not the case in all countries.
Rosella's programme on Mondays is nice and we occasionally take the opportunity to join in. They also have good food on board and if you are in the Viking club, the trip does not cost anything. Bus from Stockholm is included. A tip!

Finally something positive about the US President, I mean the interest in Greenland has increased. Ama has been there recently, and I understand that it is a new attractive destination. Incredibly beautiful there, albeit very cold.
Backpackerdestinationera was really a surprise. But maybe it is sweaty to hitchhike in hot countries;-)

Fun with your lists! As a young person, I would never have chosen to backpack in Finland (have family there), then warm countries with greater cultural differences such as in Asia and Africa. But now, however, all countries are interesting so now it would be an opportunity for me, now I appreciate everything that is new or that is an old favourite ?./ Pernilla
