Now we finally have a new connection to the motorhome! We have also acquired new tables and chairs and new wine glasses. We have come a long way with the renovation of the motorhome, but much work remains. Here is an update!

Project FREEDOM 2.0
For those of you who have not kept up, we can tell you that we have decided to completely renovate our motorhome FREEDOM. The motorhome is 12 years old, has travelled a lot in Europe and has been outdoors for several winters. Here are previous posts:
- FREEDOM 2.0 - time for revival
- Charging your campervan's batteries, cleaning and fixing lights
- Inspection and major servicing of motorhomes
- New tyres - and still problems with the clutch
New connection to the motorhome
We have long had problems with the clutch (that the pedal drops to the floor and does not come up again) and have previously tried to fix it by changing the clutch cylinder. Unfortunately, this did not help ...
When we were driving down to the Elmiamässan exhibition, it became urgent to solve the problem and the workshop (Kihlströms Transport & Lastbilsservice in Spånga) now changed it. whole the clutch. Getting a new coupling for the campervan cost us further 18,000. Expensive! But ok, now the motorhome is running and the clutch works! We came both down to Elmia and back home without any problems.
New tables and chairs
Our old table and chairs had really seen their best days. When we were at Elmia, we took the opportunity to buy new ones. We bought a rather small table, which is really only suitable for two, but which can be used by four in an emergency. We also bought four chairs, which we thought were really nice. We shopped at Campout and had to pay SEK 600 for the table, and SEK 450 each for the chairs.
New wine and champagne glasses
We also thought it was time for new glasses. Both wine and champagne glasses had become a disgusting brown colour. When a mouse chewed through the foot of one of the wine glasses, that was the last straw... We don't even remember where we bought them (it was the same place we bought them). little busy at the fair). The wine glasses cost 159 SEK for four (good price!). The champagne glasses were unfortunately not available in the same design and were slightly more expensive.
Keeping track of costs
It is important for us to control costs, as we have a limited budget. We initially expected to try to stay under 100,000 SEK, but we are aware that this may be exceeded. After all, we still have a lot to fix.
We still need to replace several windows and sunroofs and redecorate the whole car with new plastic conversion (the black and grey foil we have covered the car with). We will also rebuild the garage to accommodate the new electric bikes we have ordered. We'll tell you more about that soon! And anyway, no, it would not (really!) have been cheaper to buy a new motorhome...
Service/Product | company | cost |
New bed mattress and new duvets and pillows, sheets, bath towels, kitchen towels and blankets | Jysk | 2500 crowns |
Major service including cam belt replacement | Kihlström's | 21 000 SEK |
New starter battery and two new habitation batteries | Biltema | 3100 SEK |
Two new (slightly used) front tyres | Tyres | 1200 crowns |
Replacement of brake pads and replacement of the coupling cylinder | Kihlström's | 13 600 SEK |
New connection | Kihlström's | 18 000 SEK |
Tables and chairs | Campout | 2400 crowns |
Wine and champagne glasses | Unclear | 450 crowns |
Total to date | 62 250 SEK |
Now we have tested FREEDOM - more problems?
It was great to test FREEDOM on a mini trip to and from the Elmia Fair. So, how did it go? Driving was great! When we got down, however, we were met with some unpleasant surprises. Firstly, we noticed that a mouse chewed up both a plastic basket and a number of glasses. Then we noticed that both water taps were leaking ...
But maybe it wasn't so bad after all? We put out a piece of cheese (Gruyere!) to test for the mouse, but the cheese remained untouched. And the water taps ... well, they stopped leaking after a few days!?
new connection to the motorhome - but what remains to be done?
Now we finally have a new coupling to the campervan and it works well to drive, but still a lot remains to be done. Here is what remains to be done:
- Submit cushions and driver's seat for upholstery repair.
- New hatches
- Three new small skylights and one new large skylight.
- A new window
- New plastic conversion of the entire motorhome
- New front windscreen
- Rebuilding the garage to accommodate electric bikes

Yes, it costs to be with Bobil, but I hope it works out!
We go new and it feels good, just over 2 years our Adria now!
Enjoy and good luck.....

Thank you very much! Understand that it feels good to drive new! We hope that ours will feel a little "new" soon 😉.

Sure, it's a lot of money, but what wouldn't a new one cost?
And what would life be without a motorhome? ?
22 September 2019 - 9:03
Helena says:
Yes, but exactly! That is exactly how we have reasoned!

Husis blog says:
Sure, it's a lot of money, but on the other hand, imagine how much you get for that money. It is sad to be "in the middle of it" but soon it will probably get better. Why replace a car you enjoy (I write that I have just purchased).
But even new cars can't avoid costing money.
22 September 2019 - 9:43
Helena says:
Yes, that's how we think! We think that we almost get a "new" motorhome for 100 thousand, and when we think like that, then it is affordable! 😉

Emma, sun like sun? says:
Are the glasses plastic? Or has the mouse really chewed the glass? I hope you leave a trap in place because otherwise they can create even more expensive costs for you. Maybe it stayed at home, didn't think the Elmia Fair was for it?
We had a mouse running in the kitchen cupboard at home (in Sweden) and it chewed off the plug for the electric whisk. Now I could change the plug myself, but that's no fun. Neither is it fun when it lives among the clothes in the wardrobe, the ones I rarely use, which I sewed myself.
Electric bikes, do you mean real bikes or scooters? Smart to include!
22 September 2019 - 11:17
Helena says:
Yes, the glasses are plastic! Still don't understand why they want to gnaw on it ... but mice like to gnaw of course! No, not fun with mice ... And can be really bad in a motorhome where they can chew through electrical wires that you can't reach. We mean regular electric bikes!

It's great to see how things are progressing.
We reason a little like you when it comes to our car with 10 years on the neck. There will probably be some renovation in the future because a change is so much more costly and actually we really like it.
22 September 2019 - 13:35
Helena says:
Yes, when you have had the car for a while, a replacement becomes much more expensive. In addition, the cars actually have a much longer life span, as long as you maintain them a little! 🙂

I usually say, "Just opening the door to a lorry workshop costs 5000:-". At the same time, I think, a motorhome with so few miles and few years, should not require such major measures. There is far too low quality on much today.
22 September 2019 - 17:18
Helena says:
Certainly the quality of many things today is too low, I can certainly agree with that! Then I can understand that some things need to be maintained or replaced as well.

If it tastes good, it costs good - it's as simple as that. But considering what new motorhomes cost, you have made a cut. Oh, maybe the mouse didn't like Gruyère, it's a pretty strong cheese;-)
22 September 2019 - 17:33
Helena says:
Yes, motorhomes are so crazy expensive, so we think we'll get more this way 😉 And haha (or help!), maybe that's what it was ... that it didn't like Gruyere!? Maybe we should try it with cottage cheese 😉 .

Hi there! Can tell you what a year with a new (2017) motorhome cost in valued at 1-year.......350000.-SEK cost at the electricity fair 1250000.-
Traded in autumn 2018.......hua.....so a combined mispurchase + vehicle failure
Made us hooked.... so 100000.- feels quite ok if you still like it.
Your motorhome. With kind regards, Jocke & Cathy

Thanks for your comment Jocke!!! Tough with such a value! But as I said, thanks for your comment, then it does not feel like we have spent so much money anyway 😉.

Hello and thanks for the nice reading!
Regarding leaks from the tap or hose. I have experienced the same thing on a few occasions, and they have stopped leaking.
Yes, when flushing really hot water, the hose or plastic material may swell slightly. Check that all connections are tight as....
Good luck with the car - and the blog. 8

Hi there. Nice to read about your adventures and the conversion of the motorhome.
The wrapping turned out well. What was the cost of that?
What I am reacting to is the cost of the timing belt and clutch replacement.
I did the same with my motorhome last spring. Burstner -09 Fiat 150hp.
My workshop charged 15.000:- for clutch + slave cylinder + cam belt replacement + water pump including all materials and labour.
Quite a big difference.
Hope everything works out with the clutch problems.
With kind regards,
Anders Svensson
