Nadine Beshir
This concept started more or less with Nadine Beshirwho is a Canadian-Egyptian entrepreneur in food experiences. She found and sought out Davy and Kristin McGuire who were involved in digital illusions and together they have created a fantastic concept.
This experience, also known as "pop up" as it is only for an indefinite period, is available at the Japanese restaurant. Kasai at Linnégatan 18 in Stockholm.
Japanese restaurant Kasai
I (Peter) was invited by my friend Christian Muda. with Food and travel blog, to try this fairytale journey with good food and wine packages. The new theme "Banquet of Hoshena" is a story about kings and queens, fairies and emotions, in an animated 3D illustration.
Downstairs in the restaurant is a large room where there are 4 tables with room for eight people at each table. Here we will combine the experiences with food, wine and ultimate story telling. This trip does not clash with the other guests at the Kasai restaurant, so as not to interfere with the storytelling.
Banquet of Hoshena
On the card end of each table is a blank white board and an all-white woman's bust, which comes to life when the projectors are switched on. We hear a story from a fantasy world.
Hoshena is the queen of the country which no one knows where it is, and which tells us that it has been struck by darkness, sorrow and fear. Together we will taste the menus and converse with the table guests and turn the kingdom into happiness, love and joy.
There is a king too who doesn't want to wait for bad and dark feelings to take over the kingdom. He embarks on a journey to destroy those evil feelings for good.
The dinner will take about two hours and the stories happen between the menus. As you eat, there is time to chat with your friends or your neighbour, and experience the food.
The starter
On the tables there are two covered bowls, or volcanoes with tablecloths over them that the staff remove, and here are floating bowls with rice balls on them. There are mushroom-filled and panko-fried rice balls with yuzuaioli and chilli that are really good, which I want more of but it is not possible.
Pumpkin soup
We continue with a ginger-spiced Muscat pumpkin soup with caramelised caviar crumbs, pumpkin oil and tempura prawns. The Queen is with us every step of the way as we eat.
Next to us is a small bag that we will open. and inside are two cubes. We will whisper to the cubes our greatest fears in life and then put them in the pumpkin soup, and suddenly they will start blinking if we have just told the truth ...
The tempura prawns enter a bowl that smokes and in different colours and we taste it. I love pumpkin soup and I like the concept of fantasy and experience together. The dish is called "Earth through fog".
Duck breast
Into the table comes a black bao bread filled with star aniseed-fried duck breast, zucchini and three chilli sauces of varying heat. You choose the sauce according to how angry you are and what you want to get rid of. The dish is called "Anger" in Banquet of Hoshena.
Robata grilled salmon
Between our dishes there were drinks smoking and our plates talking. with us between courses. The next course was Robato grilled salmon on celery and apple puree, topped with cucumber and silver onion, lovely green apple and wasabi broth. The dish is called "Sadness and nostalgia through water".
The Dessert Passion in the Banquet of Hoshena
We finish with a chocolate globe with passion fruit sorbet, peach, strawberry and pistachio. We hope we have given the kingdom and the queen some hope for the future.
Now the whole table is blooming and butterflies fly along the table and little figures lie on the table talking and laughing.
A wonderful experience
This is here to stay and we will see more of it in the future, with more different concepts in more restaurants. Sweden was the fourth country in the world for which this is being shown, with London, Nashville and Kuwait being the others.

Banquet of Hoshena visas until Dec 2019
Until 14 December they have this menu and after that nobody knows? The menu is created by the owner of Kasai Paulo Fagundez and his team.
Can I recommend this?
A very nice dining experience that went by very quickly (2 hours), and it felt like you were in a film. Good food and it's 5 courses so you don't have to leave the table hungry. Bring your friends or your loved one for a nice evening.
Githa says:
That's quite an adventurous restaurant! Wow!

Hi Githa! Great to hear from you! Let's hope it comes to Denmark so you can go too. Take care of yourself.

It was both delicious and a cool experience Lina. You don't live far from there so you should visit.

Travelsis says:
Wow what a place?!!!
26 October 2019 - 10:14
Peter says:
It's fun when things evolve. This is really in line with GoT, The Lord of the Rings and all the fantasy films out there. I think you should go because it was like a film. TOP!
26 October 2019 - 16:14
TravelAnna says:
What a cool experience! Fun to see the film. Extra plus for the fact that they can allergy adapt too!

Daniela | Discovering The Planet says:
But how exciting. Those seem like a really fun experience.
26 October 2019 - 12:25
Peter says:
Kasai has a great reputation and that includes being able to accommodate allergies for guests. Great experience and good food! Nice weekend!

Veiken says:
Well, born sceptic that I am, I have to experience this before I can have an opinion.
Peter didn't give any kind of review either, except that we will see more of this.
- Good food?
- Good experience or just messy?
26 October 2019 - 12:21
Peter says:
Hello there! Of course it was bad of me:-). The food is very good and everything is perfectly ok. I forgot to write how it tasted because it is the whole that counts here. It is a little easy to forget the flavours when you are in the middle of a fairy tale or a film. Two hours just disappeared with good flavours and a wonderful experience. I can really recommend Banquet of Hoshena and if you do not want to take a wine package, you can order a glass at a time. Have a nice weekend!

BP says:
Undeniably a different and cool experience to say the least, with cool effects in the film. However, for me it's way too sci-fi, "alien" and messy. Oh plates with faces looking at me and talking - well. I'm probably too old for such experiences I think;-)
26 October 2019 - 15:12
Peter says:
Haha, BP! Now I feel young, haha! You are never too old for experiences, because as long as you experience a wow or smile and enjoy, well then we live longer. Of course, it doesn't suit everyone, but two hours laughing with your table neighbour and eating well, I think it's perfectly fine. Take care of yourself BP
26 October 2019 - 16:29
Ruth in Virginia says:
Again, I feel affinity with BP; Veiken too (messy).
Nothing to do with age.
About 160 US dollars! Something similar here, would certainly have
cost twice as much.
The portions looked very small. Were you full?
26 October 2019 - 16:57
Peter says:
Hi Ruth! It wasn't yesterday... I hope everything is ok with you? It might get messy when you take a few minutes out of two hours. It's like a film where you have to be there from the beginning. There were 5 dishes and together it is more than a normal dish in a restaurant. Fantastic entertainment I think. Take care of yourself.

Ditte says:
Really a fun concept! And I can imagine that it was a cool experience. But the price, a total of about SEK 1500, I am probably doubtful. (Incl. wine package) If I was invited or allowed to test for another reason, or reduced price, I would probably test.
But I am pleased to have been able to share your pictures and text.
26 October 2019 - 17:34
Peter says:
Hi Ditte! It also depends on how we prioritise in life. I think food is really interesting and that it develops with storytelling is very fun. If you do not take the wine package, it will be a nice dinner with entertainment for 900. Give and take...
26 October 2019 - 21:10
Ditte says:
Thought my comment was negative and it was not meant at all. As I wrote a fantastic experience, a unique evening. And it's true that you have to prioritise. Definitely. And maybe that I thought for a while, a theatre ticket also costs a lot. And without food and drink.
26 October 2019 - 21:51
Peter says:
Hi Ditte! I didn't take it negatively but more on the scale that we all prioritise what we think is important and what interests us most. We will see where this goes, but I think we are going back to what we once did with theatres or pubs in the past. We had girls in the cowboy days who performed in saloons while we ate and drank, and all the old theatres in England where we ate at the same time as a performance. Maybe there will be a new kind of entertainment with new technology.

JoY says:
Cool and a fun concept while a little "scary" with faces on the plate hahaha.
I was at Fotografiska today and discovered that there was AR technology in art, something that I don't understand, but if you point your mobile phone at the painting, things started to happen in the picture, also a bit "scary" fun.
26 October 2019 - 18:08
Peter says:
Hi Joy! I hope you are well and what fun with the photographers. They tend to keep up with everything that happens, and we will see a lot of fun in the future with all the new technology. Take care of yourself!
26 October 2019 - 21:11
Emma, sun like sun? says:
Haha, what a fantastic idea! And if you can enjoy it without the eating spoiling the drama and the story not spoiling the dining experience, it's really fun!
27 October 2019 - 16:12
Peter says:
Hi Emma! I love this idea and it's great fun when I get to be in the film. I think new technology and entertainment is great fun.
