A holiday can boost love, according to a new survey. However, young people do not always prioritise travelling with their partner. According to another recent survey, a fifth of Nordic millennials choose to travel with their parents. It's time for this week's travel news!

Stordalen and Altor are new owners of the Ving Group
It has probably not escaped anyone's notice that the Norwegian investor Petter Stordalen has become a partner in Ving. Last week, the Ving Group's new trio of owners, Stordalen-controlled Strawberry Group, Altor Fund V and TDR Capital, were presented at a press conference in Stockholm. The new Nordic Leisure Travel Group, formed by the owners, is now the owner of Ving, Spies, Tjäreborg and the Nordic airline, which has now been renamed Sunclass Airlines.

Scheduled flights increase significantly for winter travel
Flying regular flights instead of going on a package or charter trip is becoming more and more popular, according to Ticket's latest statistics. For winter travel, regular flights are increasing by 9 per cent. Long-haul flights are trending, and 6 out of 10 destinations on the top list are long-haul destinations. The most popular are Bangkokfollowed by Phuket and Miami. Gran Canaria has long been a charter classic, but now more and more people are also travelling to the Canary Islands on scheduled flights.
How Millenials travel
Hotels.com has launched the first instalment of its "Millenials on the Move" survey series, which looks at the travel habits of young (18-34 years old) Norwegians. Some interesting findings from the study are that one fifth choose to travel with their parents, over half break their travel budget and over half not think it is important to update their social media while travelling. Young Swedes prefer beaches (36%), followed by big cities (23%) and adventure (15%).

Of course they are travelling with their friends - they are paying for the party. 🙂
Love the photo of you two at the beach. Sardinia?

It's interesting that everyone goes on a trip to save their relationship. The follow-up question they didn't ask was whether it worked. But it's not interesting for the travel companies, people find others to travel with instead.

Helena says:
No, that's true ... The travel companies want to highlight statistics that look good for travelling ... 😉.

Really a super nice picture of you!
I can't remember the last time I went on a charter holiday. Except for the annual ski trips, then it is very practical to be transported to/from the ski resorts, which are usually not directly connected to airports... 😉.
But in recent years it has become "half charter". We have booked the same trip (apartment) as our friends, but without a flight. Sometimes we have taken ourselves up to the resort, or we have bought the transport from the airport with the charter company.
I think it is absolutely fantastic now that you can book and plan your trip yourself via the internet without being "in the hands" of a travel agency. 😀

Glad you like the picture! 🙂 We also mostly like to book ourselves. Can be an exception in some destinations where it is practical to book a package (although not often we do it).

I'm not a millennial, but I like to travel with my parents, partly to experience a destination together but also when the parents are kind enough to pay... / Pernilla

I'm not a millennial either but would love to travel with my parents even now, and have done so several times. Right now I'm trying to convince my father about South Korea (where he's been a lot of times and worked) and Japan (same there). Let's see if something goes in lock. 🙂

Of course the "millenials" are travelling with their parents, because then they are the ones paying, just as Ruth noted:-)
Ruth and I usually agree most of the time, so I too love the picture of you and Peter on the beach.
Stordalen is so wonderfully crazy:-)

Interesting post! My experience with millennials is quite similar to what the statistics say. I am equally surprised every time people in their 30s prefer to travel to warmth and lie on a beach all the time, instead of experiencing adventure. They should have the energy and curiosity. Would also like to know, as someone brought up here in the comments, if a sun holiday solved the problems in a tangled relationship, or if everything went back to normal at home. Unfortunately, I'm guessing the latter, if you compare with the divorce statistics that peak after the holidays.
