Which hotel in Budapest to choose?
There are many hotels in Budapest to choose from, and which one you choose depends on what you like. We think location is one of the most important aspects, and appreciate being within walking distance of popular sites and attractions.
The last hotel we stayed at, D8, was perfectly located and we also liked the atmosphere. But we've also been happy with the hotels we've stayed in before. Here is a review of three good hotels in Budapest.
1. Hotel D8 - for the hipster
During our last trip to Budapest, we stayed at hotel D8 which is a modern hotel with a youthful feel and a great location. The hotel has a clean and fresh design and the accent colour yellow goes through everything. The fact that the room was somewhat cramped was offset by the fact that there were good seats in the lobby, where you can sit and work with the computer.
- LocationVery good location at Dorottya utca 8, near the Chain Bridge on the Pest side. From here you are very close to the central square Vörösmarty tér.
- Rooms and beds: Our room was small, but equipped with many smart and stylish storage solutions.
- Bathroom: Fresh and sufficiently large bathroom.
- WiFi: Works quickly everywhere and is included in the price.
- breakfast: A nice, but not too big, breakfast buffet with everything you need: scrambled eggs, bacon, different kinds of bread and spreads, croissants, yoghurt and muesli buffet.
- Other servicesBar with drinks and bar menu and places to sit and work with access to power sockets. Very helpful and service minded staff.
2. St George Residence - for history lovers
The last time we were in Budapest, we stayed at the St George Residence, located on the Buda side. A 700-year-old building houses a 200-year-old hotel that can claim to be the most famous hotel in the world. the oldest hotel in Budapest. Living here is like travelling back in time, to an era of exclusive furniture, shiny silk fabrics and magnificent paintings.
- LocationThe hotel is located at 4 Fortuna Street on the Buda side, with only a few minutes' walk to visit the Fisherman's Bastion, Matthias Church and the Castle.
- Rooms and bedsOur room was very spacious and reminiscent of an exclusive turn-of-the-century apartment, with antique furniture and large paintings. Cool environment and comfortable bed!
- Bathroom: Spacious and fresh bathroom.
- WiFi: Works quickly everywhere and is included in the price.
- breakfast: The breakfast is served in beautiful surroundings and includes bread and cold cuts, as well as hot dishes.
- Other servicesSt George restaurant and café offers food and an antique setting with 18th century paintings. There is also a cosy courtyard and a wine cellar.
3. Hotel President - for those who enjoy life
The first time we were in Budapest together we stayed at Hotel President, which is a 4-star spa hotel on the Buda side. Here we stayed really well, and could enjoy both the hot tub in the room and the hotel's pools.
- LocationThe hotel is located at Hold utca 3-5 on the Buda side, near Szabadsag tér (Freedom Square). From here it is about 1 kilometre walk to the Chain Bridge.
- Rooms and beds: We felt that we booked an ordinary room, but were given a very spacious room with two (!) sofa groups. Comfortable beds!
- Bathroom: Very spacious bathroom with whirlpool bath and ... another sofa!
- WiFi: To be available in all rooms and included in the price.
- breakfast: Large breakfast buffet with bread and cold cuts and hot dishes.
- Other services: Nice indoor pools, spa, fitness centre, restaurant and spa.

Good with hotel tips. Makes me want to go to Budapest when I read your posts. I had probably chosen the hipster hotel. 🙂

Budapest is a very nice destination! 🙂

Wow, what great tips!
I always find it difficult to choose accommodation, usually we end up in an apartment that you rent via airbnb, which is easiest for us when we are many people travelling.
But even when there are only two of us, we usually choose an apartment, just like we did when we were in Budapest (living on the Pest side).

Apartments can also be a good option sometimes!

Great tips! Here I would have chosen St George. But when we have been in Budapest we have stayed at Radisson Blu which we think has been good in every way.

St George is nice! But there are of course many other good hotels too!

Nice hotels all! I think the most important things are (in no particular order) location, toilet/shower/bath in the room and wiffi. If any of those criteria are missing or wrong, the hotel goes away.
Then, of course, the price also matters. But it is usually the case that you get what you pay for. For me, cosiness and a convivial environment come before luxury. Luxury often makes me uncomfortable.
Have a nice little Saturday!

We had a nice hotel on the Pest side. Can't remember the name.
Cosy hotels all three, as you show. Depending on how much time you spend there.
I like historical buildings, but I can imagine the hipster hotel, it looked very cosy and welcoming.
04 December 2019 - 11:20
Helena says:
Of course, it depends on how much time you spend at the hotel! We usually don't spend too much time there, and then things like location become almost more important.

What lovely pictures of the city!
For me, there is only one hotel where I would feel comfortable and that is the hipster hotel D8. The other two are not "me", I would not feel comfortable in those environments to be honest. A bit too grand for my taste.

D8 was nice 🙂
