Government backtracks on motorhome tax after storm of criticism
Government backs down after massive criticism of new tax rules for motorhomes, writes Expressen. "The criticism has been relevant. A motorhome is something else than a car that you drive to and from work every day", says Magdalena Andersson (S).
The government has now commissioned the Swedish Tax Agency to introduce more flexible tax rules for motorhomes. Among other things, this involves examining the possibilities for making it easier to park and park the motorhome for spontaneous trips and excursions.

Ama de casa says:
My advice to the government is to look at spending - where does the money go - instead of chasing even more taxes....
But nobody listens to me anyway.
Have a great start to the week!

There is something terribly wrong with our taxation of motorhomes in our country!
Most people only drive in the spring-summer and autumn season!
When we started travelling in 2005, the tax was around 2000:- for our car then!
Just take a comparison with leisure boats, which are not taxed at all, and
then they shit down much more than us motorists!
Have a nice week......

Yes, it is completely unreasonable, especially considering that you are only travelling part of the year. And what will be the result? More people choosing to fly on holiday instead? Strange, but I hope they do something about it now!

Oh but what fun, I would love to go on a cooking course abroad. Imagine how much fun it would be to learn how to cook the local food 🙂.

I also think cooking classes are fun and we have tried restaurants, e.g. in Vietnam. This seems to be more "at home". Seems like an interesting concept though!

It's good that the government is backing down on the motorhome tax, but it would have to back down on a lot of other things too. For example, if you live in a sparsely populated area, you can't have such a high petrol tax. And who can afford electric cars and where in Norrland should they be charged. I agree with Ama that it is better to look at where the money is spent.
No, the currency does not affect whether you should travel or not. Neither does a possible flight or car shame.
Fun with Verbier! And it is a fantastic place. But expensive!

We have been driving tax-free since 2017 and will do so until April 2023. I don't know what happens after that. It is so nice not to have to support Magdalena with this money...

This shows that the motorhome owners' protests seem to be having an effect. Excellent that the government seems to have changed its mind!
I don't really understand why our Swedish krona is "in such a bad way" right now. I've never understood the whole exchange rate thing. I mean, given BREXIT, the British pound should have fallen significantly, but instead it has gone up....
