We hope you had a great New Year's Eve celebration yesterday and wish you all the best! We will tell you about our New Year celebrations as soon as we have time. For now, let's talk about our travel plans for 2020.
Table of contents
New year, new travel plans
It's a new year and time to make new travel plans. Or rather, we make travel plans all the time. Some trips we plan for a long time, and others "fall" more or less over us. We have far from full control over which trips we will make during the year (things tend to pop up all the time!), but we have at least some plans that we can tell you about.
Spring trips
We do not yet have a single trip booked for the spring, but there are many plans and trips that "hang in the air". The most certain thing right now is that we are going to the region of North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany in May. There is a university there that asked me (Helena) to come and talk about my research (on health promotion programmes for adults with intellectual disabilities).
We plan to travel to Germany together, and while I'm lecturing and attending meetings, Peter plans to check out the sights of the region. Other plans for the spring are manybut perhaps still a little fuzzy. Some may not materialise, while other unexpected things will emerge. It's like that every year! Here are some possible plans we have at the moment:
- Helsinki, Finland: The Matka travel fair and the Caravan fair in January.
- Tallinn, Estonia: Tourest Travel Trade Fair in February and/or the Bocuse d'Or Europe gastronomy event in May.
- Rijeka, Croatia: Rijeka is the new European Capital of Culture in 2020, and we discuss a visit here with the Croatian Tourist Board.
- Sri Lanka: We cooperate with the embassy and if there is a press trip in the future, it is possible that we will go.
- Surprising destinations: We have a few more loose plans, which we can't really talk about quite yet...
This summer's long campervan trip
This summer there will be a long motorhome journey with our motorhome FREEDOM. We have renovated the most important things now (clutch and batteries etc!) so by spring we can definitely run with it. We need to fix the roof leak and then we have a number of aesthetic things we want to fix. Whether we get the opportunity to fix everything or not, we can run with it now. Great!
So, where is this summer's long journey going? It's not finalised yet, but we're planning full steam ahead. We are doing our own research on what we want to do, and we are also working with various tourist offices to get the best possible information. It is quite clear that we will be travelling in Saxony-Anhalt and Franconia in Germany and in Czech Republic and Austria.
We also hold discussions with Slovakia and Hungary, and we think about Romania. In addition, we have already had some concerns about Latvia and Lithuania.
Will we have time for everything? No, hardly! It remains to be seen which countries and which route it will be, but it is at least certain that it will be a long motorhome trip this summer and that it will be with our own motorhome.
Travelling in autumn
Where are we going in autumn 2020? No, seriously, we can't plan that far ahead. We will come back to this later.
Follow our journeys
We hope you want to follow our travels in 2020! We will continue to update every day here on the blog, and you can also follow us at Facebook and on Instagram on @freedomtravelnews. Below you can see our nine most popular photos on Instagram in 2019.

This is certainly not a New Year's holiday. The owners say that planning is half the journey. I don't really know what I'm going to do this summer during the holidays. I know that there are a couple of three different options so I'm excited about what the owners will take me.
It's great that you've come so far with FREEDOM's renovation and I hope the setback with a leaking roof is relatively easy to fix.
Wishing you all the best for 2020!

It will be exciting to follow your journeys in the future. We ourselves are just in North Rhine Westphalia and now want to get further south. In summer or autumn, Balaton in Hungary attracts but nothing decided. The only booked trip is to Cornwall in June.
Wishing you a Happy New Year with great trips that we can share on the blog.

So there is a lot going on and many difficult (but nice!) "worries" with choosing from everything that is out there. Funny that you get so many requests from all sides, but no wonder as you have such a great blog!
There is only one trip booked here so far, but there may be more 😉.
Have a great start to the new decade!

So nice to read about your plans for the new year. We've often said not to book ourselves too much, but how is it going? Nothing much...
Since we wrote about our 2019 with Spain stay in March-April and motorhome trip north, we have had time to fill the calendar with a spa weekend in February, a week in Iceland in June and a long weekend to Dalhalla in July. When we read your post, we became so hungry for a travel fair....

It's great that you're travelling around Germany and the eastern states this summer!!! We have plans to do that next spring/summer/autumn so it will be great to get tips and ideas from your motorhome trip. We ourselves will cross the English Channel with the motorhome this summer.

What fun that you have similar plans, and then maybe we can come up with some tips 😉 Sounds exciting to cross the English Channel with the motorhome! Wishing good continuation of the new year!

It's good that you have so many trips in mind, so as a teacher I won't be bored in 2020 either. After all, I like to travel cheaply.
At which university in North Rhine-Westphalia will you give your talk.
It's great that Freedom is ready to drive again, and cosmetic changes to the motorhome are not the most important, I think. Then the roof hatch probably has a much higher priority.
01 January 2020 - 17:03
Helena says:
The university is located in the city of Bielefeld, so that's where we're going! And it's great that you want to keep riding with us 🙂 Wishing you a happy new year!

Fun with travel plans! I know that there will be a lot of work trips this summer and autumn and it's really great fun. On the private level in general, there are some plans that are taking shape but we will see. Rarely plan so far in advance if it does not directly apply to long trips.
Wishing you a Happy New Year of Travel.

We have also started thinking about travelling for 2020, but haven't decided anything yet. Certainly we have to go out and air the motorhome Ellen on a longer trip.

How wonderful that you can travel with your motorhome again. We have talked about going north in Sweden again. We love the northern landscape and the calm that is usually there. Could imagine a trip to Holland and see all the tulips.
Have a good 2020 and travel year?

Great to have new plans and dreams of travelling!
We are staying in our winter storage until the end of March - it's not exactly a trip, but it's so nice!
A cruise is booked to destinations in Europe where many of the stops will be new to us! The rest will be as it is!
Enjoy the rest of 2020!
