Book a ski holiday for next winter?
This year's "winter" in Stockholm can hardly even be called winter and it feels a bit strange to have missed an entire season. In the north there is plenty of snow and we have scrolled through lots of wonderful skiing pictures from northern Sweden on Facebook.
No skiing for us this year, but maybe next winter? If you want to experience a great ski resort next winter, like for example Hemsedal in Norway, it may be time to book now. Booking early can save you a lot of money, which you can use for other fun things.
How common is it to book a ski holiday early in the year?
Many people actually book next year's ski holiday as soon as they return from this year's. Especially those who go to the same place every season and know exactly what they are looking for are quick to book.
As a rule of thumb, the more people you have, the earlier you should book, as places for larger groups tend to sell out quite quickly. If you're late, there's a risk that you'll end up staying in different places, which you don't want.
Which dates end first?
It is hardly surprising that skiing holidays over the New Year and during the children's holiday weeks always ends first. Anyone who has children knows that life is organised around them and that schools have become more strict in allowing leave during regular school hours.
When is the cheapest time to travel?
Without a doubt, the cheapest time to book a ski holiday is between the beginning and the middle of January. Since you often have some red days you don't have to take so many holidays while your children are off work.
Many ski enthusiasts travel to warmer climes in early January and schedule their ski trip a few weeks later. Others choose to spend time with family during the Christmas and New Year holidays. This means it's relatively quiet in January, and you can enjoy the ski slopes without the crowds.
Benefits of booking your trip as early as possible
There are several major advantages to booking your ski trip early. Here are some of the things you'll gain from being early:
- There is much more to choose from
- It's cheaper and you get more for your money.
- You will have something to look forward to throughout the coming year.
One tip is to always book your trip with a cancellation or open purchase option because you never know what will happen in the future. However, many of the companies selling ski holidays offer cancellation options up to a certain date, which is better than having no cancellation cover at all. By having cancellation or rebooking options, you can feel more confident and don't have to stress if something unplanned happens.
Do you usually go on a skiing holiday? How far in advance do you usually book?

It's been a long time since I've been on a skiing holiday. But during the years when the children were small, we always booked far in advance to get what we wanted.
Actually longing for a day of skiing. It's such a great holiday!

We usually book the ski trips with the ski and boat group in the summer, at the latest in August. We are 6 people and prefer to have an apartment with three separate bedrooms and the offer is not very large.
This year the other four have booked to go to Andorra. We were not included, because I was unsure that I would "last" for skiing this year. Were completely set on driving up and joining them for a few days, but now it did not happen - however, it was someone other than me who did not last ...
The ski trips we do ourselves to the Sierra Nevada are booked the day before we leave, after keeping an eye on the weather. Accommodation for two in Granada is plentiful, so it's never a problem.

Yes, you are a whole bunch and then it is extra important to be out in good time! I have heard that Andorra is a bit expensive? But now maybe you can use roaming there, at least you could not before, I think?

Ski resorts are almost always expensive, but we did not experience Andorra as particularly expensive. The alcohol was even cheaper than here in Spain as they are some kind of tax-free area.
We had wifi in the apartment and otherwise we left the phones/computer alone, it's a bit fun to socialise too 😉.

I go up with the camper van to Swedish ski resorts a couple of times this winter. There is plenty of snow at the ski resorts in Härjedalen and Jämtland.
New Year in Vemdalen/Björnrike, v.8 in Åre/Duved and next a long weekend to Åre v.12.
So far found fricamping via Park4night every night, spending money on LPG instead,
