What can you do when you are bored at home? Right now, many people are spending a lot of time at home. Maybe your holiday trip has been cancelled or you are in home quarantine because of this nasty coronavirus. Here are our top tips for things to do when you're bored.
Table of contents
1. start watching a new TV series
What's better than getting into a really good TV series? Check out Netflix, for example, where there are lots of great series. Load up on fruit and binge watch several episodes.
2. read a good book
Sometimes you can actually get an even better experience from a book than from a TV series. Buy a physical book or download to a tablet and curl up in the most comfortable armchair with a blanket.
3. Take care of your wardrobe
A thorough wardrobe overhaul can sometimes feel like a 'new' wardrobe. Clear out, wash, mend... and rediscover old favourites you've forgotten about.
4. take care of yourself
Not only do you need to take care of your clothes, but also yourself sometimes. Maybe it's time for a body wrap, a new hair colour or just a good old-fashioned foot bath?
5. start training at home
When you have time to spare, it's the perfect opportunity to plan an exercise programme. Set up a training corner, find a training video on YouTube and make a training schedule.
6. Call a friend you haven't talked to in a long time.
Is there a friend or relative you've been thinking about but haven't got round to calling? Take the opportunity to make that phone call now.
7. Play a favourite game
Dust off one of the board games on your bookshelf, or dig out your old Playstation. If you prefer online casino games, you can compare different games according to the website sveacasino.se.
8. Clear your mobile phone
Is your mobile phone's memory getting full, or is it just hard to find? Clear out photos and apps you don't need. Sort your apps so you can easily find the ones you need.
9. Surprise with a new dish
It's easy to get stuck cooking the same dishes over and over again. Now that you have time, you can search the web for new inspirational dishes. Surprise yourself or your family!
10. Study a language
It's good to know languages when travelling, but it's often difficult to find time to study. Look for a good online course and supplement it by watching films in the 'right' language.
11. Sort your photos
Do you keep track of your photos on your computer? Take this opportunity to sort them out. Create a structure so you can easily find your photos and throw away the ones you don't want. Maybe you want to print a photo for the wall?
12. Tidy up
Deep cleaning can feel pretty boring, but once you get started, it's nice to get it fresh and tidy. Take the opportunity to do that "little extra" that you never have time for otherwise.
13. Be creative
Do you have a creative streak? Do you really like to paint, write, craft, sew or renovate, but find you never have the time? Now is your chance to repaint that dresser or write that book.
14. Write a bucket list
What do you dream of seeing and experiencing in life? Write a list! Feel free to mix big and small - things that are easy to realise and things that may remain dreams.
15. Start a blog
Start a blog about something you like to write about or are passionate about. Do you already have a blog? Think about whether it's time to spruce it up with a new design!

We entered Germany yesterday despite a zealous police force. Strange situation,
after five months on the road, it's not boring for a second to come home. Among other things, I will renovate a secretary and decorate the balcony for Easter! ???

Yes, you have made-up stuff so it's a bit too much 😀 but then you are two who can inspire each other. I don't really want to box myself in, haha!
But I'm taking the time to clear out some things.
More time in front of the TV, listening to podcasts, audio books, knitting, crocheting, talking on the phone (!) which no young person wants, but there are older people 😀.
Take care! Love, Gerd

Ditte says:
I go out and walk for a few hours every day. Usually 8-10 kilometres a day. But I don't have to be bored to do that, it's just part of the daily routine. However, I don't know when or if there will be a curfew. Reading books, listening to books, investing more time in my Spanish course, sorting pictures, sorting, cleaning, cooking extra good food - Maybe there will be a little more watching TV and the radio is almost always on when we are at home. But maybe more now. Of course, life feels limited but compared to friends who live and stay in Spain, it is still quite ok. Just to line up in the ranks. And life goes on here and now so we make the best of the situation.
18 March 2020 - 10:29
Helena says:
Well done with the walks! Good to move and also good to be outside, I think. Soooo glad we don't have a curfew, at least not yet. We humans need to get out, I think.

If we had been at home, we would have started clearing the house and storeroom this year, and gone for a walk. Now we consume lots of books and TV. We feel totally deprived, but will have to take care of it when we get home.

Helena says:
What else can you be but a little drunk under those circumstances? Hope you find good books and TV! And you can move more when you get home!

Maria / MagnoliaMagis says:
But what a great list!!! Mobile phone checked - check! Reading book - check!
watching series on TV4 play and SVTplay (Seen both seasons of BLOOD and now watching DNA. Quite ok!) -check! Clears the blogs and changes - check! Is creative (crocheting, replanting, baking) - check! Talked to the kids via messenger - check! Enjoying the sun starting to appear in the forest. Totally ok location. How is it going for you and to unwind? You who have 120 otherwise in speed, do you climb the walls or can you enjoy? 😉
18 March 2020 - 12:35
Helena says:
Really check on that list! 😉 Well, how are we doing? I know it's good to unwind, but I can't help but find this a bit boring... Even though we have a lot we can do at the computers, it gets pretty monotonous, if you don't make an effort. Trying to alternate computer work with other things!

Yes, indeed! Many of your suggestions have been "shelf-warmers" in my to-do list for years: e.g. learn a language (... some Russian), be creative (tie a bulb in macramé), sort photos... Now maybe it will happen! I also expect to intensely love my garden this spring 🙂.

Lisa says:
When we come home after 5 months on the road, we will have a lot to do. The pelargoniums that were cut down in October and that the nice neighbour sometimes watered will be given new soil and planted apart. We will also clear out unnecessary stuff to make more space. Forest walks with Cissi and smell the spring around our beautiful Kinnekulle. After a few days of quarantine, we hope to meet children and grandchildren. There will probably also be some picking sticks and branches in the garden because it is said to have been a windy winter.
Now we long for home .

As Ruth says - what's wrong with not doing anything for a while. It gets boring in the long run, but I have no problem with it for a month or so.
Googled today how many blogs there are in the world. The answer was between 500 and 600 million. So expanding blog contacts is an idea, if you don't want to do anything yourself.
But I understand you. You are used to mingling, events and not least travelling. So sitting at home is probably more boring for you than for me.

Emma, sun like sun? says:
At this point, I'm glad I'm not the kind of person who has to go out every day. I find it very easy to occupy myself with something. Have NEVER said "I have nothing to do..." So not being able to leave the house doesn't bother me. But of course, I can go out into the garden, sit in the sun if it's out, do a bit of clearing in the countryside. If I lived in a flat without a balcony, the situation would probably be more stressful.
Right now I'm in a reading period, I got a new ebook reader for my birthday and it's almost in my hand now.
I almost laughed out loud at the choice of image there when loading fruit on the table and watching TV programmes. Yes, grapes in a "different state" can be counted as fruit!

Many good tips, but sow a seed, make a half stop and think about what is important in life, learn something new can be something. 🙂

With that long list, you never have to be idle, that's for sure! I think a little bit the other way round - sometimes we need a little bit of boredom to appreciate the rest even more 😉.

Great tips! 8, 11, 12 I should address, but so far I haven't been bored enough 😉 And really, I don't have much more free time than usual either, as I still work as usual (we can't exactly leave the kids at the accommodation alone). I've been walking almost every day now and we've also had really nice weather ever since the exceptional conditions officially started. I have recently blogged about book tips actually 🙂 .
