We have never been to Tunisia and we have so many things we want to know! Do you have questions about Tunisia? Write them down in the blog and we'll find out about them while travelling, and print them on the blog. Here is our programme in text and pictures about what we will do in Tunisia!
Table of contents
Tunisia March 2020
We are flying in the evening and will land in the middle of the night, we understand. The trip is a press trip organised by the Tunisian Tourist Board. The flight time is 5-6 hours, there should be sun and clouds every day, and 21 degrees during the day and 10 at night. For those of us who are not on holiday, it is not too hot. Swedish summer perhaps?
Monastir
We will start in Monastir, located in eastern Tunisia along the coast, and see lots of sights. After that there will be lunch and a spa, because we have turned the clock a bit and need to recover. The evening we do not know yet what happens?
El Jem
We pack our suitcases and get into the car to take us to the El Jem amphitheatre. The theatre is one of the best preserved in the world and also a UNESCO heritage site. We will also enter a museum belonging to the theatre.
Sousse
After a late lunch we pack ourselves into the car and head to Sousse on the eastern side of Tunisia and a little north of Monastir. We check into a new hotel and see the town, the medina and visit the El Kantaoui marina.
We check out of the hotel and we are going to practice golf at El Kantaoui in the morning, because many people come here to play golf. If we survive, there will be lunch on site, and then we leave again.
Tunis
We will drive 13 miles with a stop at a vineyard and then arrive at a new hotel in Tunis (The residence) pictured above. Tunis is the capital of Tunisia and located in the Gulf of Tunis with fantastic beaches in the north of Tunisia.
Hotel The Residence
We're going to check out the hotel and its golf course, and isn't this the best way to do it in the morning? A good start to the day!
Carthage
In the morning we visit the suburb of Tunis which is the old Phoenician city. Carthage. We like this and we will also visit the Bardo museum which we have heard a lot of good things about. A highlight we think.
Kasbah and medina in Tunis
After lunch there will be a tour of the old quarters of Tunis which should be very interesting.
Sidi Bou Said
We end the day before dinner with the beautiful site of the Sidi Bou Said. There will certainly be some photos here!
Hammamet
New hotel and new views. The morning before we leave we are apparently going to some Thalasso centre, and we will see what it is? Now we have come to a large seaside resort on the eastern side of Tunisia. Splendid hotels, and the alleys in blue and white called Hammamet and we will make the city!
Zaghouan
We wake up without golf training and head to Zaghouan, the place where the Romans wanted to take their water to their city of Carthage. It was only 10 miles that they needed to build aqueducts and that was no problem. Let's check it out!
Oudhna
More sites left by the Romans, amphitheatre and all. This will also be exciting to be part of. We'll be doing more things in future blog posts, but this is the big one.
Ann says:
Oh how exciting, I have always wanted to see Tunis?

Peter says:
Hi Ann! It's exciting for us too. We love old history and then we have come right! EXCUSE for late reply with Helena has had a migraine all night and we have been in the emergency room all morning. /Peter

Åsa says:
Oh, greet Helena so much! Suffer from migraines from time to time. Today it is unfortunately to. Have a nice trip!

Lena - good for the soul says:
Wow, what exciting things you have ahead of you! Looking forward to following along!
Hug Lena
08 March 2020 - 8:51
Peter says:
Hi Lena! It is very cheap to go to Tunisia and we hope that it is as nice as you want. They have fantastic coasts. /Peter

Ditte says:
I'm sure it will be a great trip. Have visited all the places during the time I worked in Tunisia and also some later. Sousse and Monastir are more pure seaside resorts but not directly in March perhaps. Otherwise, a lot of culture and history. Sounds like a very packed programme so to go in depth and take in all the experiences you may have to do at home. Surely you will also like the food. I did it in any case.
08 March 2020 - 8:59
Peter says:
Hi Ditte:-) How good it sounds when you write. We are so interested in history and everything they built at that time. we think it will be fun and the food will be a plus. /Peter

Ama de casa says:
A very dense programme as always 🙂 Try to take it easy when you can, Helena!
I have already given my useful tip:
Play football games if the weather is bad.Now the weather does not seem to be bad at all, so I delete my tip 😉.
Have a nice Sunday!
08 March 2020 - 10:24
Peter says:
Hi Ama and thank you for your tip that you can take in another country and another time:-), or in another life? Helena has had a really hard time all night and we went to the emergency room, because she could not keep anything and a heavy migraine that would not subside, poor thing. Travelling like this is not possible to be sick because we are moving all the time, but we have 5 days. /Peter
08 March 2020 - 12:58
Ama de casa says:
But how sad to hear! Poor Helena ... Hope for a quick recovery!
09 March 2020 - 11:57
Marianne - Glimpses of the world says:
How exciting! I've only tried my hand at golf once (in Sierra Leone, of all places), and was pretty good at hitting the ball but super bad at getting it far away, so the golf part of the trip wouldn't have been my thing. But everything else? Yes, please! I would love to join that tour, though!
08 March 2020 - 10:48
Peter says:
Hi Marianne! The difficult thing about golf, which I think is very fun, is that it takes too much time. I have tried to hit out and it was perfectly ok, but to start for real and be out 5-6 hours, phew... we don't have time for that because our whole life is about the blog, haha. We have to take it in another life! Thanks for writing and have a nice Sunday. / Peter

bmlarstravellingblog says:
What a fun (but busy) trip!
Lars wants so much to go to Tunisia and play golf, but then of course we want to see everything else cool too! El Kantaoui will probably be a very nice course.
We are also so interested in all the Roman remains and Carthage is certainly incredible.
Now we have to be content with following you on the blog, so maybe there will be a trip there in the near future. Hope Helena gets better. Migraine is no fun ...
We wish you a great trip!
08 March 2020 - 14:23
Peter says:
Hi there! Those from Tunisia in Sweden only talk about golf, golf and golf, haha. They should apparently be nice courses and it is cheap so why not. It will be fun to write about! / Peter

Mr Steve says:
I have visited Tunisia once... Late 70s or early 80s, don't remember the exact year. However, I remember that one day I ended up in the middle of Tunis with a rental car without working brakes, which was quite shocking. A very special experience was also that at the hotel where I stayed every morning two men in suits were dropped off from a military vehicle. They then stayed all day in connection with the hotel's reception. It felt both strange and slightly uncomfortable. But, that was it.
08 March 2020 - 14:38
Peter says:
Hello Steve and how nice to hear from you. You come up with a story that is absolutely crazy, haha. What times it was then when everyone suspected everyone. We hope you will join us on our adventure to new destinations.
Peter

Maria / MagnoliaMagis says:
Poor thing! Hope Helena gets better for the trip! Looks to be a nice one. Maybe a little heat can do the trick! One day at a time. Hugs

Sonia says:
There are over 200 people infected by the corona virus in Tunis you have to read the news why do you think people are going there and getting infected you have to stop the flights
08 March 2020 - 16:04
Peter says:
Hi Sonia! We have no information that more than one person has fallen ill. They may be hiding it but not that we know of. We are a travel blog that writes about new destinations and we do not have a travel agency. We cannot and will not be able to stop any flights, as we are only writers.
Peter

Enis says:

BP says:
Poor, poor Helena! She will probably have to wait a few more years before she gets rid of such terrible migraine attacks. The attacks are said to decrease in connection with the menopause, which I can actually confirm. I am very grateful for two or three attacks a year, compared to at least one a week.
The trip to Tunisia sounds good, but it is a very full programme. I hope Helena, who has been feeling tired for a while, manages the trip without a migraine.
As for the coronavirus, you can only follow the recommendations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, or rather your travel organiser should carefully listen to the latest news about the virus.
08 March 2020 - 22:42
Helena says:
I (Helena that is) really hope that the migraine decreases at menopause. Unfortunately, my grandmother said that it got better after 90 ... but I think it got better for my mum earlier, so maybe there is hope 😉 Thanks for the concern!!!

Karem Abdelkrim says:
Hello and welcome to Tunisia. I guess you are already here. My name is Karem and I'm in Tunisia right now. I otherwise live in Gothenburg. I have been here since December. Escaped from the cold. Lovely weather has been all the time almost. Ylva my daughter has been here visiting for 5 weeks. She plans to come back. What I want to say is that we are a group of pensioners from Sweden who live and spend a lot of time in Tunisia. And we have contact with each other. Should you need advice and information, you are very welcome to contact us... We want you to feel comfortable and safe. Greetings. Karem
09 March 2020 - 13:47
