ITB Berlin travel fair cancelled

ITB Berlin, the world's leading travel fair, was scheduled to take place in early March. The fair has now been cancelled due to the spread of the coronavirus. The fair, which brings together 10,000 exhibitors from 180 countries, is said to be extremely important for the travel industry. At the same time, it became too difficult for the fair to guarantee that the infection would not spread.

SJ takes measures due to the coronavirus

SJ has decided that all employees who have stayed in an area with a confirmed corona infection should work from home with retained salary for two weeks after returning home. SJ also chooses to introduce a temporary restriction on business travel during the ongoing coronavirus outbreak. This means that no business trips outside the Nordic region are permitted.

The first bears have come out of hibernation in Orsa Predator Park.

Now the first brown bears have woken up from their sleep in Orsa Predator Park. Nine sleepy bears have made their way into the enclosures and there are exciting food stashes waiting to be discovered.

- You might think it's early for them to wake up in February, but it's not uncommon and we read the bears' signals and make decisions accordingly. They love to play in the snow and discover all the scents again after a winter indoors," says Johanna Berglund, animal carer at Orsa Predator Park.

TUI Care Foundation supporting local food producers in Crete

The TUI Care Foundation and the organisation Futouris are concluding a project aimed at developing Crete as a more sustainable food destination. During the project, local wine and olive oil growers were trained in sustainable harvesting techniques and linked to the tourism industry. In total, over 1.5 million litres of wine and around 119,000 litres of olive oil were produced. It is now exploring whether similar results can be achieved in other destinations and products.

Reflection of the week

Since the bears in Orsa have woken up, we have to accept that winter is over and it's spring. We've missed the snow this year, but okay, we'll settle for spring!
