This year is not like any other year we have experienced, and most of our plans have been thrown out. Now it's time to make new plans!

Cancelled journeys
We have had to cancel many trips this year. It started with the planned trip to Tunisia, which we cancelled the day before departure. Then we had more or less developed plans for Croatia, Germany and Tallinn - which we of course had to put on hold.
Our biggest travel plans were for this summer's planned motorhome trip in Europe. Peter had spent a lot of time planning an exciting route through Germany, the Czech Republic, Austria, Slovakia and Hungary. We cooperate with the tourist offices in several countries and are still open to travelling later if possible, but it is very likely that we will have to postpone this trip until next year. So, what do we do instead?
Focus for spring and summer 2020
Spring and summer 2020 will be different for many. We have had to change most of our plans and we now have our sights set on the future:
- Travelling in nature
- Discovering the neighbourhood
- Construction and renovation
- Experiencing Sweden by motorhome
Functional clothing
Already we have laughed at the fact that we have the same clothes every day. All well-dressed shirts, skirts and jackets are neatly folded and waiting for better times. We each have a pair of hiking trousers and these are currently being worn with health, along with hiking shoes, comfortable sweaters and practical windbreakers.
Perhaps we need some more practical clothes this year? After all, it feels like there may be many days in nature or with renovation. At engelbert strauss you will find functional work trousers in lots of different varieties, as well as rainwear, gloves, rubber boots and shoes for men and women.
Travelling in nature
Right now you shouldn't be travelling within Sweden and you shouldn't be too close to other people, so we're taking the opportunity to discover natural areas in Stockholm County. We have discovered that there are lots of nature reserves.
In Stockholm, we can talk about the 'green wedges' - ten large green areas stretching from the outer areas of the county towards the city centre. Within these are a large number of different nature reserves.
Another way to find natural areas is to check out Naturkartan.se, where you can search for natural areas by, for example, county, location or activity and accessibility.
Discovering the neighbourhood
An alternative to taking the car is to discover the neighbourhood on foot or by bike. For example, we have taken the time to familiarise ourselves with parks and other areas in our neighbourhood.
Construction and renovation
This year, we also believe that many people will spend time building and renovating. For our part, we have several projects that we would need to tackle.
- The camper van! Our motorhome is still in winter storage, but soon it will be time to pick it up. We are in the middle of an ongoing renovation project, so work must continue.
- The houseboat! Our houseboat is fine, but we would need to fix some small things this year. Among other things, we need to paint in some places.
- Friends' country house! You may remember that Peter has on several occasions helped our friends with their house on Ringsö in Lake Mälaren. This spring could be an opportunity to continue this work.
Experiencing Sweden by motorhome
Last but not least, we think 2020 will be a motorhome year. Right now you should stay in the county, but we have hopes that it will ease up so that you can travel around Sweden this summer. We haven't made any clear plans yet, but on the other hand, that's what's so good about motorhomes - you're flexible and can travel without planning much in advance.
How are you planning for spring and summer 2020?
Have you had to change your plans for spring and summer 2020? What are your plans now?
Role o Carina says:
So many beautiful things you are discovering at home now?
We also like nature as you may have noticed!
There will be no longer trips with the motorhome this year, mostly at home in the county.
and try your luck at fishing in our beautiful lakes and more!
Take care........

Yes, there are many nice things to discover in the neighbourhood too! Wish you good fishing luck! 🙂

Renate's travels says:
Many good suggestions! I like to spend the summer months at home in Northern Norway and rather travel in the winter months, so it won't really be that different than usual for me. 🙂 When the cabin ban is lifted, I will probably spend most of my time there. The most beautiful place on earth. 😀 Otherwise, there will probably be many mountain trips, and maybe tent trips around Nordland (if it is allowed to travel around this summer). Just cross your fingers for good weather and that you stay healthy :/.

Helena says:
Hope you can visit your cabins (or what it is called in Swedish, cottages?) again soon! And agree, if it's just nice weather and you stay healthy, it can be nice! 🙂

Emilie - Travels by Knutte says:
Have had to cancel four trips for spring and summer. One that will not be possible to carry out later, it was part of a course and the course will now instead be completely remote, really sad. Another cool trip / job that I hope to have the opportunity to do next year instead.
Right now I'm very worried in general but try to think positive and plan for the summer anyway. I hope to visit Gotland, the west coast and tick off some of our national parks. In recent years, I have made some road trips where I had a lot of food with me and slept in the car or tent, then you do not meet people up close, so I should be able to do that this summer too!

Ama de casa says:
We had no firm plans when we were first "stranded" due to Anders' broken arm and then quarantined.
Right now we are not planning anything at all (although there are ideas of course), we are waiting and hoping that we will be able to get out and walk for no reason (but with a safe distance of course). It's crazy to lock people up in this way if you ask me.
15 April 2020 - 9:41
Helena says:
We really hope you can get out soon! We also do not understand the idea of banning outdoors (with distance of course). Outdoors, the spread of infection is the least, and people feel bad about not being allowed to go out.

Lena in Wales says:
I feel that I can't plan at all, it will have to be as it is. However, I hope to be able to come to Sweden this summer and finally see family and friends. Did not get away in March due to corona.
You have it good in Sweden where at least you can move freely, so many are in total quarantine all over Europe.
Take care!
15 April 2020 - 13:58
Helena says:
Yes, we really appreciate being able to move around freely. Many people (including us) are cautious, but getting out in the fresh air is good in many ways, we think. And the spread of infection is the least outdoors, if you just keep a distance. Hope you get the opportunity to come to Sweden in the future!

Mr Lars-Åke Svensson says:
The plan was Trelleborg-Sassnitz on 2 May and then explore north-eastern Germany and the Czech Republic. We have been to Prague many times but never by motorhome, so we thought we would see several of the cities and places you have written about.
Until then, we had many planned weekends with motorhomes and birdwatchers, but we try to follow Tegnell's advice and stay in the neighbourhood.
What do you pass the time with then? Well, we tear out the kitchen here at home and put in a new one until we can move the motorhome again.
Now we hope for a trip in southern Norrland around midsummer and a longer one in the autumn according to the May plan.
15 April 2020 - 14:47
Helena says:
Oh lovely Czech Republic! Funny that you wanted to discover more of the Czech Republic, but sad that you had to cancel. Hope you get a nice trip in Sweden this summer instead!

Reiselinda says:
You seem to be doing a great job exploring the local area! That is what we will do with the motorhome as well until it is ok to go a little further out in the country. With an early holiday, it is likely that there will be no longer trip abroad. Fortunately, we have not planned much, so there were no plans that need to be changed! Hope to see you out there somewhere with the motorhomes!

Lena - good for the soul says:
It's so nice to have good functional clothing. The hiking experience is so much better when you can stay warm and dry!
We have no concrete plans yet. But, like everyone else, it will probably be a holiday in Sweden. In the local area or a little further away. We will see.

Surely your current life is as far from luxurious mingling with buffets as you can get. A real culture clash. But you've adapted well!
We have never planned anything far in advance, so we are used to it;-) Planning something now is just a waste of energy, because nobody knows how long the crisis will last.
You who flew around so much now have an opportunity to rest properly:-)
