What do young people want to do while travelling? - past and present
When I think back to when I was young, we had slightly different wishes about travelling than young people today. We dreamed of backpacking in Asia or travelling by train in Europe - uncomfortable as long as it was adventurous!
Times are changing, of course, and today we find that young people often want to travel with a slightly higher standard, and if they're going to party, they want to do it in style. Young people today also appreciate nature and care about protecting our planet. Another difference, of course, is social media - which is widely used, but which is also something that people sometimes want to take a break from.
Ten travel trends for young travellers today
Here are 10 travel trends that we can see for young travellers today. Do you see the same trends or maybe something else? Feel free to tell us!
1. Instagram-friendly travel destinations
Many young travellers get their travel inspiration from scrolling through their Instagram feed. They may be travelling to the place because it looks great in pictures and they want to experience the place for real, or because they want to take equally great photos and post them on social media.
2. Metropolitan life
Exciting big cities with their wide range of attractions, shops and cafés are attracting people to discover alternatives to the classic big cities. For example, big cities in the eastern part of Europe can be attractive or so-called 'second cities', such as Hamburg instead of Berlin or Milan instead of Rome.
3. Exercise and health
Many young people prioritise hotels with gyms, or choose to go on a fitness trip. Posting a selfie from a morning jog can be just as hot as a selfie with a drink. Relaxing at a spa is also popular, with some opting for a luxury spa holiday when they want to treat themselves. Some people visit spas while travelling abroad, but it is also possible to enjoy a spa weekend at home in Sweden.
4. Parties and events
The classic 'party' holidays may have fallen by the wayside, but special events and festivals can attract many. When visiting big cities, it's also popular to find cool bars with a great atmosphere. Of course, some are also drawn to places like Las Vegas. However, Swedes travel more for the atmosphere than for gambling, and those who do gamble usually prefer online casinos. You can see licensed online casinos listed at bestcasinosites.net.
5. Adventure
Younger travellers include some adventurers who like to get an adrenaline rush while travelling. They may want to try rock climbing, rafting, hang gliding or bungee jumping. There are also those who want to challenge themselves by climbing special mountains or going on strenuous hikes.
6. Road trips and van life
Another attraction is road trips and travelling in converted vans. The hashtag #vanlife has been trending on Instagram for some time and will probably continue to do so. Young people have discovered the appeal of travelling with a house on wheels!
7. Sustainable experiences
Finding ways to live sustainably is important for many young people today. When travelling, many show interest in choosing trains as a means of transport whenever possible. For longer journeys, most still choose to fly, but there are many other ways to make sustainable choices. For example, among young people it is common to choose a vegetarian or semi-vegetarian lifestyle.
8. Hiking and nature
In line with the desire for a sustainable lifestyle, many people appreciate nature experiences, such as hiking in the forest and countryside. Nature can be experienced around the world, but also in our own country. On social media, beautiful images of nature with mountains, fells and lakes are often popular.
9. Soloresor
Of course, most young people are travelling with company, and according to in report they also travel with their parents. However, travelling alone seems to be becoming more and more popular. Many people are trying solo travel and there are plenty of guides and tips on the Internet for solo travellers, written by young solo travellers.
10. digital detox
Social media is important, but young people today may also find it important to take a break from social media. In fact, in several studies, young people have shown more interest in digital detox than older generations, perhaps indicating a greater need for it?
How do you think?
What travel trends do you see among young people in your neighbourhood? Or if you are young, what are your favourite things to do when travelling? And if you have been travelling for a while, how did you travel when you were young?

What a fun picture of you from the Roskilde Festival. Agree with Ama about rubbish bins which were seemingly not invented at that time;-)
Everything you write also applies to travellers who are no longer young, I think.
The only thing I can say that online casinos did not exist when I was young;-)

Yes, a lot of it probably applies to older travellers too? Now that young people want to travel more comfortably, the differences may not be as great anymore 😉.

Oh my! The Roskilde picture! Hahaha, wonderful in its own way. But today there is hardly any kid who would see the charm in that. I do. Such things have their charm. Even though my head might not be able to cope for a while 🙂 .
