It's likely to be a Swedish holiday this year, and when domestic travel is deemed okay, we like to look around. So what could be better than a list of travelling in Sweden? We list our favourites in our elongated country.

A list about travelling in Sweden
Here is a list of 25 questions about travelling in Sweden. We first found the list on the travel blogger Travel Friday, and have subsequently also read variants of it at Lets Go Explore and A little more pink. If you have a blog, feel free to join in and write your own answers! You can also contribute some answers or tips in the comments section!
1. Our favourite place in Sweden
We like many places in Sweden, but our favourite is probably Stockholm. And of course our home in Pampas marina!
2. a place I don't want to go back to
Wow, how difficult! We like travelling to new places, but we can't think of any place that we dislike extremely in that way....
3. Best viewpoint in Sweden
I have no idea, but on our last nature walk we found a super nice place in Alby nature reserve. The place is at Albysjön, not far from Tyresö Castle in Tyresö.
4. My favourite flea market
Flea market? There have been times when we have popped into Myrorna in Sundbyberg, does it count ...?
5. We dream of travelling to
There are many places we want to see in Sweden. We would love to go on a road trip and check out some of Sweden's beautiful castles, for example. It would also be fun to visit the ice hotel in Jukkasjärvi or see the cranes at Lake Hornborga.
6. My happiest childhood memory from a trip to Sweden
Helena: I spent all my summers as a child in Tylösand, where my family has a summer house, and loved being there.
Peter: Throughout my childhood I spent every summer and every weekend on the beautiful island of Blidö in the Stockholm archipelago, where my brother still has a house.
7. my favourite coffee experience
We often prioritise restaurant visits over café visits, but if you are in Stockholm, the classic Vete-Katten is very cosy.
8. Sweden's best hotel breakfast?
We rarely stay at hotels in Sweden, but one hotel breakfast we remember is the one at the cosy accommodation at Cocoon meetings in Skåne. If you prefer quality over quantity, this breakfast is pure heaven.
9. Sweden's best hotel experience?
At the risk of being a bit annoying now, we have to mention the Cocoon meetings in Skåne again. We stayed in a small cabin (a cocoon!) without electricity and running water, but with a fireplace, candles and an outhouse. Soooo cosy!
10. Cutest city in Sweden?
Trosa is a really charming little town with beautiful wooden houses, a canal with small boats and small cosy shops. There are also caravan and camping sites here.
11. Forest, sea or mountains?
We like both forests and mountains, but we love The sea. The sea is wonderful on both the west and east coasts!
12. Best train journey through Sweden?
Helena: When I was young, I went on a trip to the North Cape, starting by train and continuing by hire car. Fascinating!
13. Our favourite place to go on a road trip
We love going on a road trip with the campervan, but it's impossible to say one place. We want to travel around and discover Sweden, both north and south.
14. Best book about travelling in Sweden
We don't have a book tip about travelling in Sweden, but I (Helena) like to read fiction books set in the country where I'm travelling. A book that takes you to Sweden in the 1930s is Giving birth to a child by Kristina Sandberg. An interesting Swedish (female) historical account, and at the same time a deep dive into Swedish home cooking.
15. Lake Vänern or Lake Vättern?
No idea actually! We have travelled too little here to be able to choose. We'll have to explore the areas more on future motorhome trips!
16. Stockholm, Gothenburg or Malmö?
We like Stockholm best, but of course this is partly because we know Stockholm best. Gothenburg is also a very nice city. Malmö we have very limited experience.
17. favourite Swedish national park?
We realise that we have probably only visited a single of Sweden's 30 national parks, and this is so recent that we haven't had time to write about it yet. Tyresta National Park in Stockholm is fantastic.
18. A Swedish restaurant we keep coming back to
We like the small sushi shop MGL Sushi, located in a small hidden alley in Bromma outside Stockholm. Surprisingly good and beautiful, and with sympathetic suburban prices.
19. Sweden's most romantic place?
Hmm ... the Stockholm archipelago perhaps? It is fantastically beautiful among all the islands and skerries, and cosy to travel between the islands by boat.
20. Öland or Gotland?
We have not seen enough to really choose, but I think the choice falls on Gotland. If nothing else, we are curious to see more of Gotland!
21. favourite Swedish home cooking
We both answer Perch fillet in cream, with boiled potatoes. Soooo good!
22. Swedish sweets that are always included in the car journey?
We don't like sweets very much and we don't eat loose sweets at all. A chocolate biscuit is sometimes included when we need some extra energy.
23. Where we prefer to celebrate Midsummer Eve, Easter Eve and Christmas Eve.
It is not important for us to celebrate in a special place. We can celebrate at home in the Pampas marina, or perhaps with family or friends.
24. Things we miss about Sweden when we are abroad
If we talk about food, we may (if we are away for a long time) miss Swedish prawns.
25. the favourite among Swedish castles
Drottningholm Palace is a beautiful and interesting place to visit, so that's our answer.
Ruth in Virginia says:
It's half past twelve on Thursday morning, and I should be
go to bed, but then I realised that it was after
midnight and Freedom blog time. 🙂
Sweden is wonderful. I didn't see much of it, because soon
after WWII there was not much travelling. People didn't have cars
or money, and you worked half days on Saturdays.
Thanks to so many great blogs, I have seen so much.
of Sweden. The Stockholm archipelago is special. For romance
it will be Gotland for me, as me and my ex-fiancé cycled
Gotland around 1949. I think I wrote about it before. /
I can dream of Swedish prawns. Do not know why, but it
there is nothing like them here.
Driving the road east of Lake Vättern is really beautiful.
Castle - Drottningholm!
Have rarely stayed and eaten in hotels. Takes advantage of family!
Easter lunch on deck - Wonderful finale to a nice blog.
You are doing well! 🙂

Oh yeah, we'll keep you up at night... 😉 Yes, blogs are great for showcasing Sweden. We agree, have also seen more of Sweden through the blog world. That sounds like a nice memory from Gotland! As for the prawns, we have the same experience from "abroad". Shrimps rarely taste like they do at home in Sweden 😉 Have fun!

Lisa / Let's go explore says:
What fun that you followed, so fun to read about other people's favourites and tips. Funny that you have many places left too, when it is now Sweden this summer, it would be fun to read about which places you are curious about. Another blog post perhaps?
Hugs!

Helena says:
Yes, we have a lot left to discover in Sweden! We have been around a lot during our lives in different contexts, but maybe not always to see and discover ... so there is a lot left!

Thank you, so much fun to read your answers. Yes... there will be a lot of Sweden (hopefully) already this summer and especially in the future.

Helena says:
Yes, we really hope you can travel in Sweden this summer. It would be nice to get out of Stockholm for a while 😉.

See that you need to broaden your horizons outside of Stockholm?
16 April 2020 - 17:18
Helena says:
Yes, that's probably true... 😉 We've been around a lot, of course, but we still have a lot to discover in the country.

Nice to read your post and now that we can't travel so far from home, we should probably sit down and think about our priorities regarding these issues.
Then we can only keep our fingers crossed that we get to travel a bit outside Västergötland this summer.

Nice to read your answers. I am in the process of finishing my post on the same theme so it will probably come this weekend. 🙂

Sweden is a very elongated country that offers so many gems. It is actually really nice that the corona crisis may mean that we explore what we have at home instead of travelling abroad. But then there is the weather of course ...

Nice list. Maybe I'll make one too.
The ice hotel is soooo cool. Have been there briefly for a visit. Would love to stay overnight too.
That cocoon place seems cosy. It's tempting.

Nice list.
I realise that we come from different parts of Sweden. Mine would probably look a bit different, the west coast and Gothenburg, my areas.
Take care of yourselves!

A double on Cocoon Meetings, I can definitely sing along to that! Fun list! And then you can visit Dalsland and its archipelago, so you can put Vänern on the list as well. 😉

Daniel on FlyingDryden says:
I think you should visit Dalsland. The archipelago up at Åmål if nothing else, you will soon put Vänern on the lake list. 😉
Fun list and I sing along at Cocoon Meetings!
